i was going to post this monday before the ghana tanzania game, but had an emergency come up. but now in retrospect, it is more appropriate now. today, one undefeated lost and one team fresh off the upset of the year lost to a newbie and all that we thought we knew about lion is all in the trash.
a few seasons ago, levels meant a lot. not everything, but if you had higher level players, and a decent game plan, you won 95 out of 100 times. but now, with the addition of veteran abilities, new plays, bort simply improving the game you have the any team can win possibility that was missing oh so many months ago.
today, we silverbacks cannot game plan for say morovia the same way as comorros or anyone else for that matter. veteran abilities have our players taking different paths even though attribute wise they are not that dissimilar. this has enabled anyone who takes the time the reward of beating the team you would not have beat two seasons ago no matter how hard you tried.
one thing that i think is happening, and truthfully hope is happening, is match up problems. for instance, years ago i coached a real life soccer team. we went 52-1-2 over three season. we had an average winning goal range around 5. but the two ties and one loss were to a team that never finished above 4th. we could just not figure them out.
in this league it is starting to look like this will happen. i will not be surprised if tanzania beats, even crushes african fever who today beat ghana pretty bad. we, as the last 3 games have proven, cannot beat ghana. but namibia who we beat today, beat them. the means anyone who makes the playoffs can win, IF the matchups line up just right.
"any given simulation" could be awesome for us all.
