I wanted to get peoples opinion on the new "Hands" skill. If it can make the Defence use more energy, then it'll get their weaker players on the field quicker.

How useful do people think it is?

No evidence, but in principle it sounds great. if you have high stamina and hands and play a lot of downs, I think you can really wear a defense down.

It might be useful if the energy settings are modified in the future to actually let high-levelled players finish on low (50?) energy. Until that day, I'm not convinced by it.

What do you mean? I have a lvl 47 receiving TE that finishes with energy around 30 every game. Gets about 70 plays, Stamina is 48.54, strength is 55.98.

That's not to mention the fact that we don't actually know how much Stamina/breath affects our in-game performance, since we can only see what we end the game with. If you're finishing with a near-full bar that's great but even a player at 80 "breath" may perform noticeably worse than one at 95, let alone a regular starter who ends under 50.

In short, what he said. (Octowned)

I had a no-backup team get CLOBBERED in the 4th quarter last year due to, in my opinion, energy. They couldn't do squat on our defense, it was 17-3 going into the 4th and we lost 20-17. Not saying it wasn't a fluke, great one game who cares, but the fact that in the last 10-20 minutes of the game we went to completely shutting their offense down to giving up plays at will said something to me as a GM - more stamina!

I think breath is important.

Interesting. I did not realise this was the case. How about D-line men? - those would be the ones taking energy hits.

My G finishes every game with 90+ energy, playing on hard, around 40 plays. He has very little absorb pain and hasn't bothered capping stamina. (No special teams though). I just assumed all players had it this easy.

If DEs, DTs struggle for energy then that would make hands more viable.

Maybe it's the running, or the extra 20 plays that wear my TE out. Cause my 45 OT, has 53 Stamina, 87 strength, averages 54 plays a game, usually around 80 energy after a game.

It's fairly common knowledge that O-line is one of the lowest energy positions in the game, and that D-line is on the high end.

edit: and I feel as if more people should try out high hands, high strength, and showboat blocker. Less stamina = more pancakes = more morale loss = more broken tackles = more morale loss = more pancakes... you see where I'm going with this?

You're going to need a team who is going to run off of your OT all game also. Though in the current state of the sim, that shouldn't be too hard to find...
