We had a couple of close games within the upper tier of the Eastern Conference tonight. The Thunder Bay Hitmen (4-2) kicked a FG with less than a minute remaining to hang on against Versailles (2-4) in a 41-40 defense-optional shootout that had the home crowd holding their breath. The Nova Scotia Lions (4-2) took a field trip to pay visit to the College 6 Year Plan (4-2). Nova Scotia looked ready to win their second game in a row in this long standing rivalry when they took the opening kickoff to the house for a touchdown. The stingy 6YP defense stood firm however, and held the Lions offense to less than 200 yards and less than 3 points. College squeaks by in a game that is sure to have future playoff implcations, 20-10. The Mighty Moncton Nighthawks (1-5) got on the board tonight, getting their first win versus an ailing Great Lakes Rum Runners Team (2-4).
Looking forward to next week there doesn't seem to be a marquee matchup. The Port Dover Panthers (3-3) host the College 6 Year Plan in what could be an interesting ball game. The Port Dover offense is led by QB Bigmo IsMyHo who is number 3 in the conference in passing yards. They face the ever aggressive 6YP defense which is averaging giving up only 9.6 ppg in conference play which includes Nova Scotia and both of the Thunder Bay squads. Port Dover's only signature win is against the Stompers who also remain to be one of the unprovens in the conference. This could be a statement game for the Panthers and has serious homefield playoff implications for both teams.
The Jakes (6-0) continue their rampage through the east with a route of the Port Dover Panthers. Next in their sights is the Vancouver Vipers (3-3) who are coming off of a thumping at the hands of the Chicago Six. Sorry Vipers, but the Jakes are just too much team for you.
Thunder Bay Wolverines (5-1) get a bye week by virtue of playing the SCIM .It's your turn on the punching bag fellas. Enjoy.
The Lions de Nova Scotia are facing off against the Great Lakes Rum Runners. These not-so-fearsome swashbucklers just hocked up a loss to previously winless Moncton. Look for an angry Lions to team to bulldoze the Rum Runners with their vicious run game led by Sidney Jackson.
The Thunder Bay Hitmen get the Carolina Copperheads (2-4) who just took it in the pooper from the Thunder Bay Wolverines. We'll go ahead and call this a Thunder Bay Freight Train.
The Chicago Six get a bye week from the lovable guys from ALOD. Let the backups loose for this one, fellas.
In what could be a decent matchup for us this week, the St. Catherine's Stompers (3-3) square off vs the Ottawa Storm Troopers (3-3). The Storm Trooper's ranking is probably inflated just a tad due to 2 of their 3 wins coming against the conference doormats. I'm not sold that the Stompers are ready to take it to the next level, but I think they trounce the Storm Troopers.
Versailles (2-4) meets up with Moncton this week. Moncton is coming off of their first win and hoping to keep the momentum going but Versailles is better than their record indicates. Look for Versailles to avenge this week's loss in a big way against the Nighthawks.
As always, this is for entertainment purposes only. Just killing some time, you know?
Edit: For math on my own team's ppg lulz
