I've seen several reasons why a team goes CPU. One of them is when there is some internal issues and the owner decides he doesn't want to mess with it anymore. That tends to be one of the bigger reasons, but I'm sure there are others as well (i.e. financial, etc.)
It's a shame that it's been happening as much. Takes away from the competitiveness of the game.

The good and the bad of GLB is you face other humans. Everyone thinks they will play it like Madden franchise mode create the ultimate team and win every game. I think plenty of people just don't know how to loose or deal with the building process. After a couple seasons of loosing they just quit.

I think it was all the jetlag flying back and forth from South Texas to Africa.
Its a shame to see any team fold up, especially during the season.
We actually get punished in end of season rankings now, because we played them before they went CPU.
With 5 gutted/CPU teams, should not be too hard to make the playoffs.
I feel really bad for the 3 human teams that miss the cut.
