CDZYO thought this deserved it's own thread and I agree.

The Toledo Hitmen folded today due to the burden of real life bearing down on the owner and the decision to end now with a chance for the players to salvage their individual seasons.

This was a fine team that was always run by a group of individuals who kept the players interests foremost in mind and dealt with all things upfront and professionally. It's a shame to see such an organization fall and I'll miss agents and GMs that gave me some of my first chances and helped me learn the game.

Best of luck to all as we part ways; I hope to cross paths with you again down the road.

Leon

Ya i really liked GMing this team and have been with it since the begining and have had some good seasons and built some good rivalries with a few teams here and actually have a very good team this season but we the GMs didnt have enough time to properly scout and run the team to be full successful and felt it was better for the player to find a team that had the time. WE probably would have been a .500 team or better but if we are running a team we want to do it right by scouting and everything and didnt have the time

Speaking from personal experience, I take issue with the Hitmen management being described as "a group of individuals who kept the players interests foremost in mind and dealt with all things upfront and professionally." The team's management was focused on winning at any cost, whether that meant bringing in high-level (if not necessarily well-built) players at great expense or trading off players to keep the doors open. If anything, I'm surprised that the team went CPU by choice instead of by defaulting on a loan.

The team was NOT about the players. If it were, bgbrown would have sold before the start of the season, or ownership would have been transferred.

I wish any and everyone associated with the Hitmen the best -- and I hope they have learned from their many mistakes -- but spare us the spin job.

I'm not a GM nor was I ever a GM of the Hitmen. I'm sorry your experience with them wasn't as good as mine was but I never had any issue with the GM staff or bg himself. Finance mistakes were made but they were always upfront about it and were trying to repair it.

It's difficult to balance winning with keeping the players happy. I thought they did a good job of this and tended to lean towards the players in any situations I was privy to. This isn't a spin job. It's a person giving an honest and open appraisal. So if this is what you consider a spin job you should take a look at what you posted and get on your own case and "spare us."

I guess I should be more clear -- I had no problem with the direction of the team and have no regrets about having had a player on the team. I understood the endgame (and have praised bgbrown for it in private, if not in public), and I hold no ill will.

Seeing as we both had players who joined the team at the same time (and same position, no less!), I find it hard to believe that you didn't notice the revolving door at OC and DC, or the revolving door at QB, or the revolving door at any other position, including positions where your very own players played. I will believe that you never noticed your players on the trading block (or any of your teammates on the trading block). It's really not something that one checks when they've just signed an extension, not even when their replacements are already making themselves comfortable.

I also understand that Toledo's management started to come clean about their financial mismanagement this past season. Again, I'm not finding fault there -- this game is littered with short-term thinkers. I will simply point out that not a word was said until it was time to pay for level 24 equipment and the money wasn't there.

I'm not you, so if you believe your assessment to be genuine, I'll leave it at that and agree to disagree.

Behind-the-scenes stuff withstanding,.... I know the folks at Kickin are going to miss the Hitmen. Good luck to all the players looking for new homes.

I'm gonna skip over everything else because I believe you are way off base on those and focus on what's above.

When I was looking for a team at the end of season 5, the Hitmen were obviously one of the teams (since I ended singing there). Zach never once made a promise he couldn't keep. He said the Hitmen were trying to build the stadium, so EQ wasn't a guarantee. He also told me starting wasn't a guarantee. He and BG were always upfront and honest with me, and when I asked questions in private, they never once tried to skirt the issues. I could have left at the end of Season 6 or Season 7, but I didn't because of the honesty.

Now I can't guarantee they did the same with everyone, but from what you are saying it sounds like this was a no-communication type of setting. Considering I was shocked to see such a statement come from an agent I DIDNT KNOW WAS ON THE HITMEN, I'm gonna take everything you say with a grain of salt. Zach and BG did a great job in recruiting while keeping the current Hitmen in mind as well.

End of story

I was happy about some stuff, and not happy about some stuff.......But in the end, Plucky Gruven was a Toledo Hitmen from the Begining until the End. That is all I am going to say.

Really? Wow. Maybe you should have checked tactics at some point during season 6? Or even the team website? Just sayin'.

I agree that Zach never made a promise that he didn't keep, and I'll go further to give that same credit to BG too. I also agree that they did a great job in recruiting not just players, but agents. In fact, you were part of that great influx of talent that came after season 5. I also admire Tomlin08 for taking charge of special teams and making it one of the best units in the league. In fact, I'll give credit to bruiser1234 and hang50, who were there at the start and who stepped aside when their services were no longer needed.

Maybe you know this and maybe you don't, but it's very tough to run a team. There were things that the Hitmen did very right, and things that they did very wrong, and things that they did that just were. I don't mean to detract from their (many!) accomplishments in any way -- it simply rubs me the wrong way to assign accolades that they didn't earn and don't deserve, especially when there are so many things for which they can be legitimately lauded.

I regret that you're finding offense with my few criticisms, especially since they're verifiable. (Just ask any agent who was with the team and had left before the bubble burst.) I guess the ones who go down with the ship are the most loyal.

i dont understand what you are trying to say, We never resigned someone with the intentions of turning around and trading them like you are hinting at, the only person that we did do that to was Big Poppa (K, LB, G) and everyone knew that had o be done with the way he was acting. We NEVER intended on selling the team. I know bgbrown personally (he is my roommate) and we ALWAYS gave it our all to make the team happy and get wins. We were never dishonest. I feel bad that you are mad or feel this way. As a recall, we never had anidars or your guys on the trading block. I believe that this was one of the better ran teams i have been apart of.

How were we NOT about the players. That is the statement that make me mad. We NEVER made a decision that we didnt discuss with the team... including ALL the equipment stuff. This was to a players team. as for selling the team now, i think i have addressed this many times, as we had ALL intentions to keeping the team throughout the whole season, as you can tell all the recruiting I did this offseason, ask head1, bgbrown, larantra, TaySC, and all the other GMs and other people we are assosiated with, I spent a ton of time recruitng this offseason. if it was up to me we would have kept the team but bgbrown didnt want to run a team that didnt have the proper time to put towards to make it a winning effort. He has been busy lately with work and college and couldnt scout, i am busy with my team and found a little time to scout, he sold the team so you guys could get your players on a good team as we werent looking too good for this season (especially if we didnt have time to scout).

again im sorry you feel this way but this WAS a "players first" team

I'll just say I fucking loved playing with the Hitman. Zach was an amazing guy, he did so much for the team, and BG always put any big decisions to a team vote, for example the equipment money. We voted that we'd put off equipment money for last season to help build the stadium and be a better team, and then this season we decided that the vets get thier money first. It was never just BG, he always put the big decisions to the team, and always did what we thought was best, even if he thought opposite. So to say otherwise is incorret in my opinion, but thats just my opinion.

Anyways, thanks to BG and Zach for a great time with the team, loved it there.
