Zeta Pre-season Power Rankings week1 recap, week 2 preview
Week 1 is just part of the history of GLB and the guys from Alpha will be celebrating that they beat Zeta 9-7 on the overall of the 16 games.
1.Milano Mamertini (1-0) W1
The best performance from Zeta this week came from the Mamertini boys. They had an impressive performance from their HB Welcome to the show that pile up more than 600 yds rushing and 22 TD and the rest of the team step up to put a complete rout on the Manchester Chiefs. This week they will be facing much tougher competition on their game with the Bocs, it will be the beginning of a hard first part of the schedule as they face next the Nuts and VCA. If they come 3-1 or better after this three, they should be considered as a serious contender for the title.
Next three: Bocs, Nuts, VCA
2.Bologna Nips (1-0) W1
This week the top of the table in Zeta is dominated by Italian teams and the guys from Bologna wanted to show their pride on their game against the only CPU team on both conferences. However until they face much tougher competition their standing must be kept on quarantine. This week they will have a good test against a mid table team like the Scourge.
Next three: Scourge, Knights, Bulls
3.The Hague Pirates (1-0) W1
Not much to say yet as the Pirates took care of business against the Drakkar before they fly to the Foxhole Stadium for their game against the Nuts which will be a good test to measure the form of the team before their next week matchup against the VCA on a re-edition of a rivalry game that filled pages last season. 3-1 would be still ok, 4-0 and they will be the team to beat.
Next three: Nuts, VCA, Storm
4.Vatican City Apocalypse (1-0) W1
The second of the candidates comes to week 2 after an easy game against the Mud Dogs. Now they face three tough games in a row that will really show if they sky is the limit or if they are just another earthly team. This week the Dragons will be the revealing factor of the power from the holy city team before they face the Pirates on a rematch of the biggest rivalry from last season.
Next three: Dragons, Pirates, Milano
5.Iberian Bocs (1-0) W1
My Bocs did an okay job against a team that is not as bad as the score says. However, we are still adjusting to the recent changes and we need to find the balance in our game before we roll on all cylinders. The first home game of the year will be against the powerful Mamertini, a team with a strong rushing game and with high morale thanks to having the number 1 position. Luckily, the rest of the schedule ahead is easier than their opponents so we’ll have time to compensate any possible mistake.
Next three: Milano, Motown, Snakes
6.Blackpool Scourge (1-0) W1
Last week I wrote that to give this team some credit they would have to show some merits on their game against Lyon, and so they did, so total respect for a team that could be the next VCA on the league. Now they have 3 games that seem pretty accessible for a team who is willing to be part of the top.
Next three: Bologna, Warlords, Stallions
7.London Crimsom Storm (1-0) W1
London is another of those teams that is willing to make them a name on the league and if they keep playing like they did against Matadors they will for sure get a good one. Hard earned W with a FG on the 4th quarter and then shutting down the Stockholm for the rest of the game. It might be early to say if they can keep up with the top teams, but for sure they can put some upsets on any team.
Next three: Stallions, Dragons, Pirates
9.Dublin Dragons (0-1) L1
Dublin is one of those teams that most people don’t give any attention because they are just there doing their job without making too much loud on the forums but they have done a heck of a job bringing quality to their roster. They have a tough game this week against the VCA and they suffered a costly loss against the Mighty Wingmen that could put them in a difficult situation early in the season.
Next three: VCA, Storm, Manglers
11.Motown Legends (0-1) L1
The Legends had a tough time against Stockholm Syndrome and that loss can be a costly one at the end in the fight for the last playoff position. The snakes are a team of their similar level and after they will receive the Bocs and the Nuts so don’t be surprised if they end up with a 0-4 that will be difficult to overcome.
Next three: Snakes, Bocs, Nuts
12.Pamplona Bulls (0-1) L1
The other spanish team on the league had a bad season opener after falling 20-3 against the Destroyers. However, they played pretty solid football on the first quarter and they even took the lead with a late Field Goal but their perennial depth chart issues cost them the game against a higher ranked team. Now they face 3 teams that play in their league and they should come up with 3 W if they want to take some advantage on the playoff rally.
Next three: Knights, Snakes, Bologna
15.Bastogne Nuts (0-1) L1
As predicted, the Nuts got kicked hard by the Baton Rouge. What I couldn’t expect is that the Tigers could have completely shut down the Nuts offense. It won’t get any easier back to zeta though, as they face a title contender this week on the Pirates and the next they will go to Milano in a must win game if they want to keep any homefield advantage hopes. The Motown will complete the trilogy and anything better than 2-2 after them will roll this team back to the top.
Next three: Pirates, Milano, Motown
NOTE ON THE PREDICTIONS: I do not use any of the league projectors, so this is my prediction based purely on observation.
GAME OF THE WEEK: IBERIAN BOCS – MILANO MAMERTINI
You may allow me to start the game of the week with a rematch of last season playoff first round. Both teams have been around the league for quite some time now and the Mamertini come home leading the league in almost any possible category. However they don’t win the Bocs since season 4, so I expect to keep the streak alive and put another W on the boards.
Bocs 34-27 Mamertini
MUST SEE TV: THE HAGUE PIRATES – BASTOGNE NUTS
I have a lot of faith on the Nuts to be a tough contender for the Pirates this week. They got a hard welcome to the league game against probably the best team in WEA5 but they don’t have too much room for mistakes as their rivals for the 4th seed got their W in the interconference game.
THE LATE GAME: VATICAN CITY APOCALYPSE – DUBLIN DRAGONS
PowersConnection put this game on the radar of many people with his comment on the forum and it’s good that the Dragons get some respect that they obviously deserve after their last moves on the offseason. In a perfect world it would still be an easy win for the sacred team, however, GLB it’s not a perfect world and when you less expect an upset ruins your season. Will the Dragons get that honor?
Sorry for the delay guys
