Season 8 Week 1 Predictions
Hey all… I’m just giving this a shot and I’m NOT promising that I will be able to do this every week. I certainly will likely not be doing it for both conferences, but this week is a pain because the games are all inter-conference. My predictions are based on a cursory matchup analysis and gut feelings so please, feel free to disagree.
My picks are identified by an asterisk. Predicted scores are in parentheses.
Bamako Bite* at Tanzania Eagles
-Look for Bamako to break their 19 game regular season losing streak with a strong victory against the overmatched Eagles. (85-9)
Brazzaville Borts* at Rwanda Riot
-I like this matchup as Rwanda’s defense matches up well against Brazzaville’s offense. I think Brazzaville’s Dline will dominate this game however, and that makes the difference. (24-10)
Michigan Nation* at Gabon Panthers
-Gabon is a solid team but Michigan Nation outclasses them. Despite the long commute and severe jet lag, look for Michigan’s strong defense to shut down Gabon. (28-3)
Suez Sultans at Zimbabwe Bulls*
-Breaking my trend of road victory predictions, I think Zimbabwe wins this one with their running game, which can be very productive.
Algeria Desert Foxes at Egyptian War Gods*
-Algeria is fielding a stout defense this season but I don’t think they will be able to shut Egypt down completely, and Algeria’s offense just doesn’t have enough firepower to pull this one off. (45-17)
Warri Dela Warriors at Strong Badia Tires*
-I realize my objectivity on this one is a bit questionable so feel free to ignore this prediction. This is a good matchup but I think Strong Badia’s offseason additions give them an edge in this game. (35-20)
Mauritius Mountain Lions* at Impending Doom
-With their great preseason performances Mauritius has shown that they are a team to be reckoned with, and I think they reinforce that in this game. (65-15)
Jupiter Dolphins* at Cardiff Cobras
-This looks to be a very tough game but it looks like Cardiff has a slight edge here in terms of skill levels. My brain says Cardiff but my gut says Jupiter with a slight upset. (33-30)
BCS Bustin Broncos at Bumba Dambala*
-This is a stat padding game for Bumba. The Broncos need to be thankful that injuries haven’t been implemented into this game yet because it would look like the Southpark episode where the kids played the Denver Broncos. (185-0)
Freetown Jayhawks* at Rosetta Stone
-Rosetta will fight valiantly but they are simply outclassed by Freetown. (55-15)
Huambo Hermaphrodites* at Uganda Crowned Cranes
-This is a tough one to gauge because Huambo is completely owner controlled, which can be good or bad. In this case it looks like he steamrolled his league last season so I will give him the benefit of the doubt this week. Lets see how he fairs in AA. (28-10)
Angola Wave* at Sahara Sand Monsters
-I’m taking Angola against an outclassed Sahara in this one. I don’t think Angola runs away with it but they should win convincingly. (42-20)
Kenya’s Blood Leopards at Lethoso Rollers*
-Lethoso looks to steamroll the leopards in this one. This should be a runaway victory for them. (110-17)
Midnight Rockers* at Zulu Brotherhood
-It’s a shame that the Brotherhood crashed as badly as it did after putting together a decent season last year. Midnight is outclassed in its league but gets a gift game week 1. (96-0)
Swaziland Dachshunds* at P-Town Ballaz
-P-Town has levels, but a lot of CPU players. Look for the Weiner dogs to go for the ballaz (terrible pun intended). (50-20)
Zimbabwe Rebels* at Savanna Pride
-I predict a very close game here with Zimbabwe winning out in the end. I believe this one will be decided by a field goal. (31-28)
So there you guys go… feel free to rip it apart!
