Week 9 Rankings for USA #7 (Western Conference)

Last week’s rankings:

I could use some help doing these, so if any of the owners/GM's or even people on the team could PM me what you thought went right and wrong in your games (like what I've done here), it would save me a bunch of time. Thanks

Disclaimer: I am the owner of the New Brunswick n00bs and this is only my opinion based upon how the teams looked when I saw them

1. Waco Davidians
2. Oakland Wizards
3. Great Plains Reapers
4. Bel Air Beardogs
5. Spicewood Longhorns
6. Dallas Red Raiders
7. Las Vegas Stunners
8. Scottsdale Sun Demons
9. New Brunswick n00bs
10. Hartford Hellhounds
11. Portland Hitmen
12. Miami Cyclones
13. Grand Haven Mist
14. RGB Berzerk
15. Ambridge Brigade
16. Chicago Clams

1. Waco Davidians - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1220
What went right: Run Defense – Once again, the Davidians showed off their run-stuffing abilities by holding Scottsdale to a measly 43 rushing yards. They wrapped up all their tackles and wreaked havoc in the backfield to with 4 TFLs and one forced fumble.
What went wrong: Turnovers – With one of their two turnovers kicking off Scottsdale’s drive for their first and only TD, the Davidians need to be careful about giving away the ball to opponents. This recent rash of missteps is not a welcome sign and needs to be addressed if they hope to avoid the upset bug again.
Recent Game: W 26-16 vs Scottsdale
Record: 8-1
Previous Rank: 1
Next Game: at RGB Berzerk

2. Oakland Wizards - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1215
What went right: Kicker – Yeah, he missed a FG and an extra point, but the two clutch 40+ yarders he hit were the difference in a game that was marked with inconsistent drives and offensive frustrations.
What went wrong: Receivers – With 7 dropped passes, the Wizards were never able to have a consistent enough passing game to sustain drives all the way to the endzone. Considering that 5 of those drops were made by TEs, the Wizards might want to rethink how the ball gets distributed.
Recent Game: W 15-10 at New Brunswick
Record: 8-1
Previous Rank: 2
Next Game: at Miami Cyclones

3. Great Plains Reapers - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1212
What went right:Secondary – The Reapers secondary set the tenor of this game with an INT on the Stunners’ first drive. With all three of their INT returns starting off drives that led to points (17 in total), the Reapers’ secondary were the spark-plug for the team. When the Las Vegas receivers did catch the ball, they were tackled pretty quickly as evidenced by their relatively low YAC stat.
What went wrong: Offensive Line – I’m not sure what happened, but Las Vegas was able to get into the Great Plains backfield with relative ease. The Stunners’ defense was able to tackle the Reapers’ backs in the backfield 8 times as well as sack the QBs twice and hurry them 6 times. Pancakes don’t mean much if you can’t consistently keep the opponent’s defense out of the backfield.
Recent Game: W 23-3 vs Las Vegas
Record: 7-2
Previous Rank: 3
Next Game: at Ambridge Brigade

4. Bel Air Beardogs - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1224
What went right: Run Offense – Welcome back running game!! After a few games of sub-par rushing results, the Beardogs’ running back tandem showed up in a big way. Combining for a whopping 300+ rushing yards as well as all of their TDs, Bel Air fired a warning shot to those who thought their running game was tiring out.
What went wrong:Pass Offense – With the offensive line providing good protection, the Beardogs’ QB was still only able to loft up 14 catchable balls out of 29 attempts. This could be a cause for concern if opposing teams are able to stop the Beardogs’ running game.
Recent Game: W 37-0 at Chicago
Record: 7-2
Previous Rank: 5
Next Game: vs Grand Haven Mists

5. Spicewood Longhorns - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1214
Contributor: im4ut999
What went right: Pass Offense – Even with the 2 INTs, the Spicewood was still extremely effective in their passing attack. With the receiving weapons of TE Maija Vilkkumaa and WR Karl Roberts, RJ Stew is quickly becoming one of top passers in the conference.
What went wrong: Turnovers – In a staunch game defensively, the only points that Dallas scored were a result of turnovers. With a lack of turnovers, this game could have easily been a rout.
Recent Game: W 16-10 at Dallas
Record: 6-3
Previous Rank: 8
Next Game: vs Portland Hitmen

6. Dallas Red Raiders - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1217
What went right:Turnovers – The three turnovers that the Red Raiders forced the Longhorns into led to the Raiders’ only points of the game. Without these turnovers, this game would not have been as close as the final score.
What went wrong: Offense – Frankly, the Red Radiers’ offensive unit sputtered today. They needed the defense to jump-start them, but by the time they started scoring, they were already down 10-0 with a half to go. While statistically they didn’t do horribly, the Red Raiders were never able to sustain drives long enough to cause Spicewood’s defense to sweat.
Recent Game: L 10-16 vs Spicewood
Record: 5-3-1
Previous Rank: 4
Next Game: vs New Brunswick n00bs

7. Las Vegas Stunners - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1219
What went right: Linebacking Corp – The Stunners’ linebackers gave the Reapers’ offense a headache all day long. Wreaking havoc in the backfield, the linebackers did all they could to keep Las Vegas in this game, but the Reapers were still able to string together enough clutch plays to do the damage necessary to win the game.
What went wrong: Time of Possession – When you have 50 less offensive plays to work with (98-48), it’s pretty hard to score enough times to win the game. Harmed by turnovers and long drives, the Stunners’ defense must have been pretty beat after this game. To avoid this, the Stunners will need to rely on their solid running game a bit more to ensure that their defense has enough time to rest up.
Recent Game: L 3-23 at Great Plains
Record: 6-3
Previous Rank: 6
Next Game: vs Hartford Hellhounds

8. Scottsdale Sun Demons - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1225
What went right: Pass Offense – With their starting QB Howitzer leading the charge, the Demons shot the ball over the field with tremendous accuracy and efficiency. Completing passes at just under a 70% clip, Scottsdale gave Waco’s secondary all they could handle.
What went wrong: Run Defense – The Sun Demons defense just was not able to handle the running game that Waco brought to the game. The duo of Tippit and Puck burned the front seven with 13 broken tackles for an average of 4.7 yds/carry. If the Sun Demons had been able to wrap up, they could have slow down and even stopped Waco’s consistent marches down the field.
Recent Game: L 16-26 at Waco
Record: 4-4-1
Previous Rank: 7
Next Game: vs Chicago Clams

9. New Brunswick n00bs - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1210
What went right: Receivers – The n00bs’ receivers were able to have another perfect game with no drops. Granted they only had 7 catchable passes, but they stepped up when they needed to.
What went wrong: The Fumble – Martin had another solid game, but the back breaker was that he had his first turnover in a game where the n00bs couldn’t afford it. With New Brunswick driving down the field, the fumble changed the tenor of the game and the n00bs never fully recovered.
Recent Game: L 10-15 vs Oakland
Record: 5-4
Previous Rank: 9
Next Game: at Dallas Red Raiders

10. Hartford Hellhounds - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1216
What went right: Offensive Line – With 34 pancakes, decent rushing stats and no hurries or sacks allowed, the Offensive Line did all that it could to will the Hellhounds to win this game. This game was such an exception to the rule that the game is won in the trenches because it’s pretty clear that the O-line beat Miami’s D-line.
What went wrong: Kicker – Statistically he did OK only missing one FG, but it’s more the fact that he didn’t even try some field goals. It’s not a good thing if you have to punt from the opponent’s 25 and 26 yard lines. Granted the offense could have gotten a little closer, but when your kicker doesn’t even attempt those kicks it is a major frustration.
Recent Game: L 3-10 vs Miami
Record: 4-5
Previous Rank: 10
Next Game: at Las Vegas Stunners

11. Portland Hitmen - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1211
What went right: QB play – Completing over half their passes and accounting for all of their TDs, the QBs really stepped it up this game. Their performance was highlighted by the 51.5 yd TD pass that Vick threw to Balzonia. Hopefully they’ll be able to perform at this high level against tougher competition.
What went wrong: Johnny Awooga – Like most other teams, Portland was not able to do much against Johnny Awooga who broke 14 tackles and accounted for over 40% of RGB’s yard production.
Recent Game: W 23-0 vs RGB
Record: 3-6
Previous Rank: 11
Next Game: at Spicewood Longhorns

12. Miami Cyclones - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1955
What went right: Clutch Defense – When the defense needed to, it firmed up. By stopping many of Hartford’s drives right before the red zone, the defense forced the Hellhounds into some difficult kicking situations that ultimately caused their undoing.
What went wrong: Receivers – In a solid passing day, the receivers could have made this game a little less dramatic if they caught the 6 dropped passes.
Recent Game: W 10-3 at Hartford
Record: 3-6
Previous Rank: 13
Next Game: vs Oakland Wizards

13. Grand Haven Mist - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1222
What went right: Offense – You can’t get a much more balanced attack than the Mists had. With 210 yards on the ground and 215 yards in the air, the Mists showed that they can beat you a variety of ways.
What went wrong: Red Zone offense – While they were able to drive the ball down the field with ease, the Mists had issues with finishing those drives off. If they can figure out how to do that, they could be a very dangerous team to face.
Recent Game: W 33-3 vs Ambridge
Record: 2-7
Previous Rank: 12
Next Game: at Bel Air Beardogs

14. RGB Berzerk - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1223
What went right: Johnny Awooga – Accounting for over 40% of their yardage and averaging a very solid 4.5 yds a carry as well as breaking 14 tackles, the Berzerk really need to rely on him more to keep them in games.
What went wrong: Passing Offense – Completing just over 33% of passes is not going to cut it against solid teams. Add to that the fact that 2 throws were interceptions and RGB will need to look into how to prevent their passing game from being a liability.
Recent Game: L 0-23 at Portland
Record: 1-8
Previous Rank: 14
Next Game: vs Waco Davidians

15. Ambridge Brigade - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1221
What went right: The first drive – Ambridge was able to draw first blood in this game by scoring on their opening drive. While they only got a FG out of it, they proved that they could string together enough plays to keep defenses on their heels.
What went wrong: Run defense – They just weren’t able to stop any of the backs that the Mists threw at them. With a lack of solid tackling, the defense had a rough day trying to contain any of the offensive plays thrown at them.
Recent Game: L 3-33 at Grand Haven
Record: 1-8
Previous Rank: 15
Next Game: vs Great Plains Reapers

16. Chicago Clams - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1218
What went right: Punter – The Clams punter had quite a workout in the game and proved his value to the team with a whopping 37.5 yd/punt average. Right now I’m willing to bet that many teams in the conference are dreaming of a punter who could guarantee them a 30 yd/punt average.
What went wrong: Run Offense – In a weird statistical anomaly, the Clams averaged 0 yds/carry, but gained a total of 0.5 rushing yards. I’m assuming it’s a rounding issue, but the fact that we’re talking about this just underlines the futility of the Clams run offense against the Bel Air defense.
Recent Game: L 0-37 vs Bel Air
Record: 1-8
Previous Rank: 16
Next Game: at Scottsdale Sun Demons

Offensive Player of the Week:
HB Furious Monotony Bel Air – 29 rushes, 183.5 yds (6.3 yd/carry), 9 broken tackles, 1 TFL, 3 TDs

Defensive Player of the Week:
CB Complete Lockdown Dallas – 11 tackles, 2 PDs, 1 INT

Special Teams Player of the Week:
P Danny Highkick Chicago – 14 Punts for 525 yds (37.5 yd/punt).

Game of the Week:

#7 Las Vegas vs #10 Hartford

After dropping 4 straight, Hartford is in desperate need of a win if they hope the stay in the playoff race. On the other hand, Las Vegas needs this win to help solidify their spot in the playoffs.
Prediction: This game will be all about depth and with Hartford, their reliance on CPU backups could be their undoing in the second part of the season.
Predicted Score: 24-10 Las Vegas

Current “Game of the Week” Record: 4-8

He couldn't demoralize his teammates by picking us and he couldn't pick the Noobs because it would jinx them so he did the smart thing by just staying away from it.

Thanks for the write-up again Scarlet.

Since the power rankings get plenty of views I'll go ahead and apologize for missing the half-season mark for the all-conference team. Sometime soon, most likely week 12-13, I'll put out my edition with voting rules, then after week 16 we'll have the voted-in all-stars.
