Simply the best, better than all the rest! -Tina Turner
1. Botswana Bugeaters
They won lion conference last season and they established themselves as the team to beat as they plowed through the playoffs until they were halted by TLGoT in the League Championship. They probably didn't reach their own personal goal but they have no reason to frown at their season. Nice depth all around and a very deep secondary, good luck passing on this team next season.
2. Cape Verde Kings
Last season probably seemed all to familiar for Cape Verde. This is the second time in 3 seasons they have been knocked out of the playoffs in the conference championship. I have no doubt this team will still linger around the top of the league but can they make the jump and end on top of the conference, something they haven't done since the creation of the Africa Leagues back in season 3? Stay tuned and we'll find out!
3. Angola Dream
An earlier than expected exit from the playoffs followed by a couple excuses, including "no time to game plan," kind of has this team in a funk. Yet they do possess a couple keys to stay consitently good in any form of football. They can stop the run, and they can run the ball. Everything else kind of falls into place from there. Let's see how this team fares as the competition from top to bottom continues to grow.
Lick the lollipop of mediocrity once, and you’ll suck forever. - one of my favorite quotes, These teams can't settle for making the playoffs and see it as an accomplishment. We all need to strive for more. to be the best. not just of the conference but champion of the league!
4. Dar Es Salaam Warrior Kings
After a 3 season drought, this team has fought and clawwed its way back up to the playoffs. Something that would make most teams fold, made this team stronger. They have built a team from the core and improved along the way. Good luck in the next season. I look to see you guys make another playoff run.
5. Angola Spider Monkeez
They lost in the first round to a very good Botswana team by only 7. They also made some very nice improvements at key positions to add some depth. This team has shown they can play with the best of the league. It wasn't too long ago when this team was in the Pro league championship but then again in season 6 they missed the playoffs. Let's see is they can continue their success.
6. Windhoek White Rhinos
Very nice team with some quality additions along the lines. thats where the game is won, offensive and defensive lines. this team bounced back from a very tough season 6 where they only managed 5 wins which shows the heart of a true champion. With the improved competition of the league lets see if they can stay up to par with the league.
From here out could be made into a reality TV show. I have said Lion conference is very competitive. 16 very good quality teams all fighting for 8 spots and ultimately one prize. It's anybodies guess who makes the playoffs these days...
7. Seychelles Seawolves
This team just won Africa AAA 1. They have great depth all around and roll deep at every position. Most teams don't do well their first time around in APL. In fact not one AAA team from lion conference went to the playofss last season. If I had to pick a team to break the mold Seychelles is it.
8. Rawnada Royal Knights
Great team with solid ownership. They could definately be a playoff team last season. A straight laced football team with a mean streak. They have a powerful running game and stingy defense. A perenial playoff team looking to carry on the tradition...
9. Zambia Lions
Very nice team that I came across quite a few times recruiting for some of the teams I GM for. they definately did their homework on this offseason. they lack a little depth at the skill position but they are definately built for the long haul. good luck.
10. Kalahari Night Riders
One of the best offenses and the league leading quarterback back for another round. this team and Zambia both took their lumps in their introductory seasons to APL. No doubt they will try to rebound and get back to their league leading ways.
11. Tuscaloosa Bulls
Another team that hit the recruiting trail pretty hard. Look for this stingy defense to return to its ways of dominance as The bulls try to make it back to the playoffs. As the level of competetion rises we we'll see how well bulls can swim!
12. Narobi Warthogs
very solid team with much depth all around. They just got runner up in AAA 2 and it looks as if they have a very strong running game. Time to see if they'll sink or float in the Pro league.
13. Sahara Shadow Chasers
One of the best offenses I have ever seen in my days at Africa AAA 1. I'll be watching to see if they have shored up that defense to match the ability of their offense. It's also good to know I have some old drinking partners to hang out with in Africa Pro. Enjoy your stay!
14. Nigeria Nightmare
It's hard to decide who I will put in these last 5 or 6 spots because I am putting these teams on the block for regulation. I don't want to do that because I have come to know and like this league. But these bottom three teams have the least ammount of depth along the offensive line. I think that'll be the difference on who stays and who goes.
15. Niger Mambas
This team just got promoted and I am not sure how long their stay will be. They lack depth at a couple key positions and I'm hoping to see them succeed. With only two OTs i'm either wondering how your special teams will turn out or how your Oline will be in the 4th quarter.
16. South African Ridgebacks
Somehow I am predicting this Playoff team to be relegated. But with only 2 guards I'm not sure how you guys will fend with the improved defenses og the league.
Good luck everyone
