Any update they make to the game has to be tested. If the only reward they get is getting to test out different builds for the endless hours they work for no pay, then I'd call that fair enough. I know I wouldn't want to spend hours each day on a test server. The people who whine about it the most are kids and/or want access strictly for personal benefit. I'm just happy to know that they actually test for bugs and exploits. I couldn't tell for a while there.

I agree. If no one test, then there will be bugs all over the place. Then they would continue bitching...fuckin nerds

I've been operating under the assumption since I joined GLB that there was a test server that a select number of people had access to. As a web developer myself, I know it would be absolutely foolish not to have one for such a large game.

Bort could have done a better job of informing everyone of its existence, and he should definitely give us an announcement with some details on how it works. But, judging from what he said in the original thread, and what others have said, it seems that the test server is merely a way for them to create players with any kind of attributes they want. and pit them up against "team a", "team b", "team c", etc ... and they know that "team a" is the "heavy passing" team and "team b" is the "monster defensive line" team, etc ....

I don't see how that's really an advantage, and I don't really care to see the results of the tests, or anything else about it. All I want is the tests to happen, and fixes to get implemented without the entire community knowing that if they add +10 to their confidence, their defensive line will all suddenly start running over offensive linemen or something. If they announced every test and every result, and these tests were based on current game conditions (which, btw, they aren't since the test server has a bunch of changes in place and is constantly evolving) then every day would be a race to do the latest exploit.

That said, anyone who is a tester and feels that they can't keep what they learn (if anything) on the testing server to themselves, and not let it affect their team/players in GLB, I hope that they're smart enough to give up their testing duties to someone who can.

Yeah, I've been a firm believer tha Bort can certainly afford to hire outside help.
