EASTERN CONFERENCE

Wow, this division has really changed. I see some familiar faces from BBB16 though.

Pending some recruiting, here are my preseason rankings. Part of the fun is where you disagree with me, like how I said the Cowboys would win the NFC East...

Looking over this division, a several teams could win it all.

1. Maine Hawks (via BBB16)
Last Season: the BBB16 champs went undefeated, but not unchallenged
Outlook: Powerful offense and improved defense makes them the team to beat.

2. Houghton Gremlins (A8 Playoff team)
Last Season: 12-win regular season and took Dutch Harbor to the edge in the first round of the playoffs
Outlook: solid levels throughout and a 2-headed rushing monster makes them as dangerous as anyone.

3. Montana Grizzlies (A8 Playoff team)
Last Season: Another 12-win A team with a close first round playoff loss. Lost head to head with Gremlins.
Outlook: Very nice D, but o-line needs recruiting. Superstar QB needs time to throw!

4. Atlanta Wolves (via BBB15)
Last Season: Plowed through BBB15 en route to an undefeated season.
Outlook: What Atlanta lacks in levels, they make up for in tactics and builds. They will challenge for a home playoff game.

5. New Orleans Poison (via BBB16)
Last Season: Gave Maine all it could handle in conference title game.
Outlook: Very balanced offense and good tactics make up for a few levels. Don't be surprised if they finish higher.

6. Miami Hammerheads (A8 Playoff team)
Last Season: started off terribly, then went on a nice run before getting killed by Naperville in the playoffs.
Outlook: very stacked level-wise, but can they put it all together? They have enough talent to win it all if they do.

7. Miami Makos (A8 Playoff team)
Last Season: the "other" Miami team had a yo-yo season before getting housed by Gulf State in the playoffs
Outlook: Another team with plenty of talent that hasn't quite put it all together yet. As the tactics go, so do they.

8. Red River Chiefs (via BBB16)
Last Season: Fought tooth and nail with Poison and Hawks, losing a heart-breaker int he conference semis to the Poison.
Outlook: Should challenge for a playoff spot behind great ownership and coaching that will make up for some levels.

9. Vice City Mambas (via BBB15)
Last Season: 15-1 team that lost a good game to Atlanta in the BBB15 conference finals.
Outlook: Lacking some beef on both lines. If they pull that together, they could finish more in the 5-6 range. Very good game planners.

10. Manhattan Massacre (A8 missed playoffs)
Last Season: Competed in A8, but fell short of the playoffs. Nice win v Montana.
Outlook: Solid D and dangerous passing attack will have them competing for a playoff spot if they get the put it all together. I think they may fall a bit short again.

11. Buffalo Beasts (A8 missed playoffs)
Last Season: Fought hard in A8, but a bit over-matched.
Outlook: they will need a recruiting haul to compete for the playoffs. Don't have the depth right now.

12. Bowdoin Polar Bears (A8 missed playoffs)
Last Season: Their offense put up some points, but they couldn't stop anyone en route to a disappointing season.
Outlook: Same boat as Buffalo, but with a bit less talent.

13. Da NOLA Brah!!! K&B Purples (via BBB15)
Last Season: nice 14-2 record in BBB15 before getting blown out by Vice City
Outlook: do not have the talent to be competitive.

Also-Rans:
14. Dakota Bison (A8 missed playoffs)
15. Pittsburgh Powerhouse (A8 missed playoffs)
16. Destin Pigskin Pimps (A8 missed playoffs)

All I can say is .... wow. You might want to do some more scouting. Our builds suck and our tactics are a joke, that's why we didn't move up last season to be honest. We 'plowed through' BBB15 because we only had 3 or 4 competitive games and were lucky enough to out level the opposition in those - no offense to the other BBB15 teams, it's not their fault I couldn't lead the Wolves out of the BBB's before it became unbalanced. In 5 seasons against the Miami teams, we might have beat each one once. Houghton blew us out of the water once their slow builds came of age - we couldn't even compete against them. Putting us at #4 is an insult to the 8 teams you ranked below us, honestly.

Other than that though, nice write up

If the Grizzlies don't own the east and move up this season I just might have to quit GLB.

Hey, I like the honest approach! It is hard to tell sometimes how good an undefeated team in a weak division really is...

lol, no disrespect in the least Motion. You'd be one of those competitive games I was referring to. In our specific case, I believe we won because we had a little more depth than Vice City. That's all. No tactics brilliance, no super builds. Well, that and we managed to contain the damage your DE's did - but I PM'd you about that already Like I told you there, we stressed that matchup all season. But anyways, I certainly wasn't taking anything away from you, K&B, or Burelson, I was just pointing out that we aint all that, and certainly aren't the #4 team here.

We have the talent. We are a slow build team in the process of maturing. We have some of the best builds around, but like I've probably said too many times, VA's are killing us. We have the builds to take out teams 10-15+ levels above us, as other slow build teams we've been involved with had been so successful at doing prior to the introduction of VA's. It just takes a lot longer to reach that point nowadays. Hopefully, as the gap continues to close this season, the level + VA defecit becomes something we can overcome.

I do think we'll be a little outgunned at the beginning of this season, but I disagree with you about us being competitive. We will be competitive this season, and I see us making the playoffs. I look forward to breaking into the top 8 this season!

No one predicted the Cardinals to go to the Super Bowl either, so anything can happen. The fun is in looking back on these at the end...

I think I predicted 9-10 wins for the Storm preseason. You never know. Interesting response to the critique though. You honestly believe you can beat teams as high as 15 levels better than you because you slow built?

Everyone slow builds, brotha. And with all due respect to what you eventually will be, the Vice City Mambas, destroyed you in the playoffs, and lost to Atlanta. And at least last year, 80% of the league was in the same tier. competitively speaking, as Atlanta. One season of putting up a good fight and you guys might be a force, but no one is beating anyone 10-15 levels higher, period. Not unless that team is built like a team 10-15 levels lower.

Either you weren't around seasons 2-6, or you weren't paying attention. Slow built teams were pulling that off with regularity. I believe it WAS possible, because I won 3 trophies on a half-assed slow build team in SEA. Our first championship win, we were outleveled 10+ across the board. We then went straight to pro in consecutive seasons, facing similar level disadvantages. No, I don't honestly believe it can happen TODAY, and VA's + the maturing of all leagues as a whole are chief among those reasons. Back in season 4, when we went slow-build, it was commonplace.

Maybe some of the CPL Bayou Warfare guys can chime in here. They were a proper slow build team that turned things around with amazing speed and success, and they are spinning wheels now that VA's are in the game.

Also, I don't know what you mean by 'everyone slow builds'. That makes me think you don't understand what the concept is all about.
