In week two, the Waco Davidians travelled to Denver and faced a tough early season challenge but arose victorious. Since that point, they've doned an almost impenetrable armor. All attempts to harm them behind it were in vain, and all were met with powerful, almost mocking, retorts. Each Waco victory helped construct a dark cloud over the entire Western division of A#7, destroying the hopes of championship contenders.
Their armor may not have been shattered this night, but it was most certainly damaged, restoring Waco's mortality. For the first time in weeks, Hugh Laurie was made obsolete with only 161.5 yards and 3 interceptions. Neither of Waco's twin bulls, Zayn Tippit and Wolfgang Puck, exceeded 40 yards rushing and the Davidians only average 2.7 yards as a team. The Beardogs didn't fair much better against a tough Waco run defense, average a measely 1.9 yards per carry.
The Big Ticket certainly lived up to his namesake, reaching the 200+ yard plateau in a game when he was sorely needed. Owen Wilson made the most of the 5 thrown his way turning them into 59 and a half yards.
In this contest of titans, the game was decided by the defense of Bel Air who recovered 2 fumbles, pulled in 3 interceptions, had 11 pass deflections, and a sack. The 5 turnovers Waco coughed up throughout the course of this game considerably swayed field position in Bel Air's favor, giving Mikey Black an opportunity to win the game for the hometown squad. His 4 for 4 performance tonight was inexplainably huge because, as anyone could see, points were at a major premium.
Almost no team can overcome a 5 turnover game (especially when they get none in return). Bel Air's defense flew around the field making plays, enough to put the offense in positions to put some points on the board. It wasn't a huge scoring game, but in the end the Beardogs did exactly enough of what they needed to do to secure the victory.
Bel Air gets a considerable reprieve in the coming weeks, facing Chicago and then Grand Haven in succession. Though Grand Haven shouldn't be overlooked, they are very winnable games that will lead up to a giant contest against the Denver Reapers... err... Great Plains Pirates... whoever. The team with all the skulls.
AROUND THE LEAGUE
How does that poem go? Sugar and spice and everything nice? Something like that, either way... we've got one spice in 7 West that is anything but nice. Making a furious rally from their 0-40 loss in week one, Spicewood is now blazing molten hot and destroying all the Pompeiis that lay before them! Dallas should be a great test to see if Spicewood is for real. Personally? I think they are. I don't want any of RJ's Stew, because it usually leads to losses for the opposition...

Can I maintain any street cred if I rep Spicewood beyond what I already have? Don't know, but whoever they steamroll next can't say they didn't see it coming! RJ Stew came to play (again) completing 73% of his passes for 245 yards, a 8.2 yards per attempt, and 2 touchdowns. Karl Roberts and Jerry Powers both benefitted from Stew's precision passes, tallying over 80+ yards each. Flip the script and you'll find Greg Martin having another solid game with 15 for 88 (5.9 average) but his team fell behind early and was forced to abandon the run game. The difference in this one was the fact that the n00bs were only able to recover 1 fumble out of the 4 they forced. Would it have made enough of a difference to even out the score? Probably, but we'll never know. Lasse Skriver is becoming so automatic its boring, with another 4 for 4 evening (including a 45 yard laser).

If you go down 20 to 3 at the end of the 3rd quarter against a really superb Oakland Wizards squad, hope is all but lost. That being said, we here at the Billionaire give enormous props to Hartford for forcing the issue, scoring 14 points in the 4th quarter to make it a one score game. With 3:53 left in the 4th, the Hellhound D needed a 3 and out to give their offense enough time to win the game. The Hartford sideline and fans were teeming with anticipation, as if somehow this was their game to win even though they were down by 6. First play? Ouincy Wilson rush for 4 yards. 2nd and a managable 6 yards. No big deal. 2 more stops! The snap on 2nd down, another run! Exactly what Hartford needs! Running back Ouincy Wilson breaks outside following a stellar block by Fullback Kyle Ellis on a thundering Kim Mitchell. 12 yards later, Wilson held the Hellhound's recently removed heart in his hands. But lets give the Hellhounds the credit they deserve : they may have lost this game but it was a LOT closer then Oakland fans expected entering the 4th quarter and Hartford definitly earned the respect of not just Oakland, but the rest of the league with their gritty attempt at a seemingly impossible comeback.

I know its the summer, but we are going to revisit mathematics for just one second (stop grumbling, I can hear you back there!). What do you get when you take 3x as many total yards, complete ground dominance, and 9 dropped passes by the away team : a 34 to nothing final score. Grand Haven needs to call up some sticky glue company or something... because 9 dropped passes is heartbreaking. If we are just being honest with ourselves, they probably wouldn't have won the game had all those passes been completed anyways but they more than likely would have put the game in question for a little while. Duke Nuke'em stole the spotlight again with 17 for 94.5, 3 receptions for 36.5 and 3 scores. Ice Simeria (GH LB) rebounded from a poor showing in the win last week to have another huge 11 tackle night. Maybe the secret for Grand Haven is Simeria having a bad night? Who knows...

The live feed was blacked out to local fans due to GLB's inability to sell out this football game. It doesn't surprise me considering these two teams have underachieved the entire season. Ambridge did manage to pull this one out and catapult themselves out of the gutter (Hi Chicago, welcome to former Ambridgeville! Here's your large box and shopping cart go start collecting cans), but it was close. Down 6-3 going into the 4th, Ambridge scored a huge touchdown to claim the lead with only 4:43 left in the game. The ensuing Chicago possession, Ambridge defensive back Ibrahim Emerson put the nail in the coffin with an interception of Chicago QB Red Herring. Game over right? Well, the final score indicates that you are correct but with only 1:01 left Chicago reclaimed possession and moved from their own 29 to the Ambridge 44 and just missed field goal position as time expired. I gave Grand Haven huge props on their first win so I'll bust out my party wazoo for Ambridge but you only get one toot, because it really wasn't in convincing fashion.

The Dallas chariot, led by thoroughbreds Taurean Williams (8/52/2td) and The Kraken (14/75.5/td), mercilessly trampled the Berzerk defense all game. They finished with 216 rushing yards in the game, and the Dallas rushing team broke 16 tackles. The sore spot? Well they fumbled 3 times, but didn't lose any of them. Good luck or Johnny-on-the-spot ball hawking? Probably a bit of both. Either way, RGB is now an afterthought again after yet another embarrassing loss. Stack the box and watch them fall to pieces.

Portland may have lost this game, and not really in dramatic fashion, but Dick N. Balzonia had one of the best games for a wide receiver in the West this season with 8 receptions for 123.5 yards and a TD (including one 68.5 yard TD catch). Scottsdale's offense moved with efficiency in this one, posting 189.5 rushing yards on 52 carries for a 3.6 yard rushing average. You look at that and think "well that isn't too impressive" and you are right but coupled with the insanely efficient 100 yards and 3 touchdowns gained by Jack Howitzer and the passing attack, it was all the Sun Devils would need.
Great Plains 34

The Great Denver Pireapers proved their foundation is cyclone proof, holding the Miami offense to 180 yards of total offense compared to their 408. Ironhead James had two big scores and Abra-CRUSH Lincoln proved his consistency yet again with 6 catches for 71.5. The Great Plains back up quarterback, Mason Cambria, had 83.5 yards on 9 of 11 pass attempts. The Miami starter, The Korean Cannon? 93 yards on 12 for 30. Any game where your back up QB has 10 less yards then the other guys starter, I'm pretty sure thats a win. Miami's 15 missed tackles (yeah I said 15) didn't help either.
CLOSING STATEMENTS
The real question we should all be asking isn't whether Waco should be concerned about their first loss. It isn't whether Spicewood is for real (they are, don't worry). It also isn't whether Ambridge is still the worst team in the league or if they've passed the torch to Chicago. No... none of these are the real question. The real question is : When are the Reapers going to change their stadium name??! Maybe I just get confused easily but I'm sitting here thinking to myself "Now... do they practice in Great Plains (wherever that is) and then fly to Denver for their games? Did they air lift Pirates Stadium from Denver to Great Plains? Are they still Pirates? WHAT IS GOING ON?!?"
Back to something we should really be talking about : Spicewood is the real deal. They'll kick you to the ground and take your lunch money. Be afraid... be very afraid.
