Week 8 Rankings for USA #7 (Western Conference)

Last week’s rankings: http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=180879

I could use some help doing these, so if any of the owners/GM's or even people on the team could PM me what you thought went right and wrong in your games (like what I've done here), it would save me a bunch of time. Thanks

Disclaimer: I am the owner of the New Brunswick n00bs and this is only my opinion based upon how the teams looked when I saw them

1. Waco Davidians
2. Oakland Wizards
3. Great Plains Reapers
4. Dallas Red Raiders
5. Bel Air Beardogs
6. Las Vegas Stunners
7. Scottsdale Sun Demons
8. Spicewood Longhorns
9. New Brunswick n00bs
10. Hartford Hellhounds
11. Portland Hitmen
12. Grand Haven Mists
13. Miami Cyclones
14. RGB Berzerk
15. Ambridge Brigade
16. Chicago Clams

1. Waco Davidians - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1220
What went right: Run Defense – Waco was able to shut down Bel Air’s running attack with great tackling. Bel Air was only able to gain 58 yards on 32 running plays (1.8 yd/run average).
What went wrong: Turnovers – This was not the game to commit a season high 5 turnovers. In a game that was a constant tug-of-war for field position, giving away the ball 5 times was just inexcusable.
Recent Game: L 3-12 at Bel Air
Record: 7-1
Previous Rank: 1
Next Game: vs Scottsdale Sun Demons

2. Oakland Wizards - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1215
I’m extremely intrigued by Hellen Keller, so I will periodically have a special section for her if she does something notable
What went right: Kicker – In a game that was pretty tight, the Wizards’ kicker came through in a big way hitting FGs from 23, 39.5 and 40 yards out. The only miss came at the very end of the game when the game was already in hand. Without those 2 long FGs this game could have turned the other way.
What went wrong: Turnovers – They only had 1 INT, but they were lucky to fall on their two fumbles. If they didn’t, the game could have gone the other way. They’ll need to make sure to hold onto the ball in the future, or else it could be a problem
Hellen Keller Watch: Hellen Keller did a great job today, going 8/11. Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn sometimes. Congratulations are in order.
Recent Game: W 23-17 vs Hartford
Record: 7-1
Previous Rank: 2
Next Game: at New Brunswick n00bs

3. Great Plains Reapers - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1212
What went right: Offensive Line – With 37 pancakes, the QBs having all the time in the world to throw, and a solid running performance, the O-line dominated this game and Miami’s defense. There really was nothing Miami could do defensively to stop the Reapers from scoring at will.
What went wrong: Receivers – While not that bad, the receivers dropped 4 passes. With much of their offense predicated on an efficient passing game, the Reapers need to have the receivers be as close to perfect as possible.
Recent Game: W 34-7 at Miami
Record: 6-2
Previous Rank: 3
Next Game: vs Las Vegas Stunners

4. Dallas Red Raiders - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1217
What went right: Run Offense – While the backs had a case of some butterfingers with 3 fumbles, they were all fortunately recovered. More importantly, the backs bulldozed their way to over 200 yards of rushing on a solid 5 yd/carry average. The backs also accounted for all 3 of the Raiders’ touchdowns.
What went wrong: Tackling – They had 6 missed tackles which allowed RGB to gain a few extra yards. While this didn’t really have an impact on the game because of how much better Dallas’ offense and defense was, this could be a problem in the future.
Recent Game: W 24-3 at RGB
Record: 5-2-1
Previous Rank: 4
Next Game: vs Spicewood Longhorns

5. Bel Air Beardogs - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1224
What went right:Kicker – In a close fought game where no one got any touchdowns, it came down to the kickers to shine. In this game, Mikey Black came out on top, hitting all 4 of his FG opportunities from 21, 29.5, 34.5, and 36.5 yards out.
What went wrong: Run Offense – In three out of their past four games their run offense has sputtered and has not been able to get them over the goal line. If they hope to challenge for the top, they’ll need a more consistent running game because they’re not always going to be given a +5 turnover ratio to work with.
Recent Game: W 12-3 vs Waco
Record: 6-2
Previous Rank: 6
Next Game: at Chicago Clams

6. Las Vegas Stunners - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1219
What went right: Run Defense – When you hold your opponent’s run average below 1 yd/carry (0.7 yd/carry in this case), you know something’s going right. Even with some missed tackles, the front line was still able to stuff the runners in this game, forcing the Mists to throw the ball.
What went wrong: Turnovers – With an INT and fumble recovered by the other team, the Stunners showed some vulnerability in the turnover department, but in a game that was never in question, it remains an afterthought.
Recent Game: W 34-0 vs Grand Haven
Record: 6-2
Previous Rank: 5
Next Game: at Great Plains Reapers

7. Scottsdale Sun Demons - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1225
What went right:Opportune Offense – When they needed to string together plays, they did. Even though they only outgained Portland by 50 or so yards (310 vs 266), they were able to turn their yardage into points through a good balance of running and passing.
What went wrong: Tackling – Poor tackling could have doomed Scottsdale in this game, but fortunately, they made the tackles when they needed to. However, their next opponent won’t be as forgiving if their defense has another 9 missed tackles performance.
Recent Game: W 24-7 vs Portland
Record: 4-3-1
Previous Rank: 9
Next Game: at Waco Davidians

8. Spicewood Longhorns - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1214
Contributor: im4ut999
What went right: Pass Offense – Completing over 70% of their passes, the Spicewood QBs bombed the heck out of the n00bs’ secondary. Tagging New Brunswick for over 300 yards passing and accounting for their 2 TDs in the game, the Longhorn pass offense had a field day.
What went wrong: Run Defense – Like most people they weren’t able to completely stop New Brunswick’s running offense, but by bending and not breaking, the Longhorns were able to limit the damage. Having their offense keep the n00bs’ running backs off the field helped immensely as well.
Recent Game: W 26-6 vs New Brunswick
Record: 5-3
Previous Rank: 10
Next Game: at Dallas Red Raiders

9. New Brunswick n00bs - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1210
What went right: Run Offense – Statistically, the n00bs still had a solid day running the ball with a solid 4.2 yd/carry average. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to piece together enough of the runs together to really deal damage to Spicewood.
What went wrong: Defensive Secondary – Even with the front line putting pressure on the QBs, and 6 dropped passes by the receivers, the Longhorn’s QBs were still able to complete over 70% of their passes. The n00bs couldn’t afford to give up big plays, but they got burned in the 2 TDs that Spicewood threw.
Recent Game: L 6-26 at Spicewood
Record: 5-3
Previous Rank: 7
Next Game: vs Oakland Wizards

10. Hartford Hellhounds - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1216
What went right: Linebackers – They did a good job containing the run and jarring the ball loose. Accounting for both of the fumbles, they did what they needed to do, but unfortunately weren’t in position to fall on the ball.
What went wrong: Early Big Play Defense – They gave up too many big plays in the beginning of the game and let Oakland jump out to a pretty large lead. When the offense came around and started it’s 4th quarter rally, they just didn’t have enough time.
Recent Game: L 17-23 at Oakland
Record: 4-4
Previous Rank: 8
Next Game: vs Miami Cyclones

11. Portland Hitmen - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1211
What went right:Pass offense – Barring the interception, the Hitmen’s pass offense did a number on the Sun Demons’ secondary. With a decent efficiency, Portland racked up nearly 200 yards through the air and if there weren’t 4 dropped passes, it would have been an even more impressive display.
What went wrong: The Interception – At the end of the first half, when they were at the Sun Demons’ 3.5 yd line and the QB threw an interception. This event alone totally changed the tenor of the game. That was the game-changing play of the game.
Recent Game: L 7-24 at Scottsdale
Record: 2-6
Previous Rank: 11
Next Game: vs RGB Berzerk

12. Grand Haven Mist - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1222
What went right: Kick/Punt Return – Their return game allowed their offense to get decent field position. With an average of over 30 yards per kick return and almost 15 yards per punt return, the Mists could have made this game closer if it was relegated to a field position battle. s
What went wrong: Offense – The offense was just not clicking this game and had trouble moving the ball down the field with any consistency. They were only able to get onto the Stunners’ side of the field 3 times during the whole game and it’s very hard to win a game if you do that.
Recent Game: L 0-34 Las Vegas
Record: 1-7
Previous Rank: 12
Next Game: vs Ambridge Brigade

13. Miami Cyclones - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1955
What went right: Receivers – With only one dropped pass, the receivers did all they could do to help out the Cyclones’ QBs who were under pressure throughout the game. Unfortunately, not enough passes were strewn together to be able to make a large impact during this game.
What went wrong: Tackling – With the D-line getting consistently pancaked, the Cyclones couldn’t afford to allow extra yards. But with 15 missed tackles, the Reapers were able to run rampant over the defense. The Cyclones will need to be better at tackling if they hope to upset some people.
Recent Game: L 7-34 vs Grand Plains
Record: 2-6
Previous Rank: 13
Next Game: at Hartford Hellhounds

14. RGB Berzerk - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1223
What went right: Johnny Awooga – Once again he had a decent enough game with a respectable 3.6 yd/carry average while breaking 5 tackles and only having 2 TFLs. Unfortunately, he continues to be one of the few shining lights on this team and wasn’t able to carry them to a win in this game.
What went wrong: Tackling – With 18 missed tackles, RGB was not able to stop Dallas’ rushing attack. By allowing them to gain extra yards, the Berzerks were doomed and were just hoping for a miracle in order to win this game.
Recent Game: L 3-24 vs Dallas
Record: 1-7
Previous Rank: 14
Next Game: at Portland Hitmen

15. Ambridge Brigade - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1221
What went right: The 4th quarter – Down 6-3 in the 4th quarter, the Brigade’s defense and offense buckled down to make some major plays to stop Chicago short and get a TD to win their first game of the season.
What went wrong: Tackling – with 10 missed tackles, the Brigade was fortunate to hold Chicago to just 2 FGs. If just one of those times resulted in a TD, Chicago could have easily won this game.
Recent Game: W 10-6 vs Chicago
Record: 1-7
Previous Rank: 16
Next Game: at Grand Haven Mist

16. Chicago Clams - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1218
What went right: Run Offense – For the most part, Chicago was able to run the ball pretty successfully with a 3.8 yd/carry average. However, when it counted the most in the red zone, their runners seemed to stall at the most unfortunate of times.
What went wrong: 4th quarter defense – They allowed almost half of Ambridge’s yards in the 4th quarter and just weren’t able to hold them down in the red zone. The resulting TD was the difference in this tight game.
Recent Game: L 6-10 at Ambridge
Record: 1-7
Previous Rank: 15
Next Game: vs Bel Air Beardogs

Offensive Player of the Week:
QB RJ Stew Spicewood – 22/30, 245 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs

Defensive Player of the Week:
CB Enter Sandman Bel Air – 3 Tackles, 1 Forced Fumble, 2 PD, 1 INT (for 9 yds), 0 missed tackles

Special Teams Player of the Week:
K Mikey Black Bel Air – 4/4 in FGs (21 yd, 29.5 yd, 34.5 yd, 36.5 yd)

Games of the Week:

#3 Great Plains vs #6 Las Vegas

In a tantalizing match-up of 6-2 teams, the winner of the game gets an inside track to home field advantage for the play-offs. This will be a case of which team wants it more.
Prediction: They are evenly matched, but looking at chemistry, the cohesiveness of the Great Plains team will carry them through to victory.
Predicted Score: 24-21 Great Plains

#4 Dallas vs #8 Spicewood

Fresh off an upset of the n00bs, the Longhorns are looking to add another prize to their mantle of achievement. A win here could solidify their spot for the play-offs, while a win for Dallas will vault them into contention for a top-4 spot.
Prediction: If Spicewood can repeat their passing performance that they showcased against the n00bs, they should be able to pull off the upset. After all, they beat the team that Dallas tied.
Predicted Score: 34-27 Spicewood

Current “Game of the Week” Record: 2-8

Hahaha, wow...this has definitely taken a life of it's own. It really is pathetic how bad I am at picking games. You just have to stop being in such good match-ups. If you lose a lot, it'll help
