O-Pro Endorsement Deals

They won't be here for a little while yet (will be arriving when trophies are awarded I hear), but it'll be fun to see which players win the "lottery" and get that little something extra for next season.

There are currently about 1500 players in O-Pro and one deal will be given to a player from each position with FAME factoring into the odds. Number of players by position in O-Pro right now:

32 kickers
32 punters
48 quarterbacks
57 fullbacks
66 free safeties
67 centers
67 strong safeties
70 tight ends
75 halfbacks
118 defensive ends
122 defensive tackles
122 tackles
123 guards
156 wide receivers
169 cornerbacks
185 linebackers

If it's not a super-secret kind of thing, stop back by here and "announce" your winners when they post.

Endorsement deals? What's up with that?
At the end of each season, sponsors will award endorsement deals via a sort of lottery to one player in each position for each league. The size and type of deal depends on what level the league is, and the player must be within the league's recommended levels to be eligable. Players with higher fame earned from that league that season get more "chances" in the lottery to be selected, but it's not a guarantee!

What do I get out of an endorsement deal?
You get some cash added to your daily salary, and will be awarded a unique piece of equipment designed for your position, bearing the name of the company who awarded it. This piece of equipment goes in a special "endorsement" slot, and is removed at the end of the season if you do not get the endorsement deal again.

The items are all premade stuff for each position. I'm thinking of trying to figure out a way to differentiate certain build types by comparing stats (such as higher agility than strength on an HB = elusive back, etc.) but I don't have that hashed out yet. Right now they are just preset things for each position. Stuff at higher tiers is better - Pro leagues will give you endorsements from a top end company with a nicer bonus, while Pee Wee and BBB type leagues give you endorsements from Crazy Eddy's Used Car Sales Emporium with a lower bonus.

Bonuses are things like +attribute, +SA, or +% chance, in various combinations. There may be a few special ones if we come up with them at some point, too, that do special things like give you a +1 morale boost per day or some of the VA type abilities such as second wind, etc.

Also, we've spent some time brainstorming fun fake company names and items based on names of our current admins, mods, and GLB memes.

I really like this idea. It's going to be fun to see which players get which endorsement deals. I also like the fact that this equipment goes into it's own slot. It would suck to get an endorsement and have to replace your AE to use use it just because the endorsement equipment happened to be gloves.

I just hope there is something to make sure a certain team doesn't get stacked with endorsement deals, and that they make sure each team gets something. Otherwise, that's going to be horribly unfair to most teams in the league.

In general, while the idea sounds fun for players, it'll hurt the competitive balance in the game. I find it funny that Bort constantly talks about not wanting the rich to get richer, but with endorsement deals having a higher chance to go to players who got more fame, that means the higher salary and higher performing players will get a much larger chance to get the endorsement deal, making them perform even better and have an even higher chance to get one the next season. 16 total items per league when the league has 1500 players barely breaks 1% of players in the league getting something from this.

Teams that were barely playoff squads or barely missed will have a lower chance to get something like this. Teams that were dominant will have a better chance to get these things. Players on teams that spread stats around will have a lower chance, pushing players away to the teams that offer more opportunity to rack up big time stats. Not to mention, how is this at all fair when Alpha got a couple of gutjobs to play, giving them higher stats and fame, while Zeta got no guts to play?

I don't like this idea.

A much better way of handling this is to give each team one 'endorsement' and let it be handed out randomly to a player on the team based on what that team does best be it running, passing, defending, or what have you. Or let each team select an offensive and defensive captain, and give them a special piece of gear with a similar boost. That way, each team gets two pieces of special gear, and the stuff is balanced instead of it being totally random and having one team end up with 5 pieces while another ends up with none. At the very least, this needs to be limited to one endorsement per team, even if not every team can get one.

Anyways, I guess grats to WSI on getting a ton of endorsement deals and getting even better than you already are. Because that is what will happen.

I think the idea is for the league people to vote for them. Or actually...

Not entirely random.

League people don't get to vote on them. And yeah, as Wes said, fame is going to have an influence on things. From the way Bort worded it, it sounds like the highest fame will have a pretty good chance, just not a guarantee.

I agree with Moose's post.

An idea where you have 1-2 team captains and each team gets a piece like this is much better than just randomly throwing it out there (although I know you can have more "tickets" in the lottery). Honestly, I'm hoping the worst build players on the worst teams end up luckily winning the endorsement. At least that way, the rich aren't getting richer and the competitive balance remains unaffected.

Ugh, why does the most heavily populated position have to be linebacker?...

Why are you complaining? Your team is going to end up with the majority of these deals anyways

This sounds like fun. Idk about the idea that the players with more fame earned might get them. What about the players who already have high fame?

No need to be a pessimist here.

Wouldn't the most fame benefit WSI more than any other team?

Brilliant move...

It goes by most fame this season, which would go to WSI.
