Once again the top teams have proven that I cannot predict game results worth a damn, unless I am calling them for the Butchers. It's a good thing I don't get paid for this, I suppose.

Alpha Conference:

In the Alpha game of the week, I predicted Stalingrad to play a close game against the Raptors and come out on top. I was very wrong, as Vilnius pounded the ball up the middle against the Ironmen, and held them to mostly field goals in a game that just wasn't close. Vilnius relied heavily on their two big backs, Cylon Twill and Rollin Thunderstrike, to keep the Ironmen off of the field and score big on long drives. It seemed like every time these two touched the ball, they were breaking off at least 8 yards. The offensive line for Vilnius did a great job of pushing the Ironmen out of the way to create some running room. This was an impressive win for a Raptors team that didn't get much respect all season long.

Tallinn has put the Blaze completely out of the running with a solid 56-17 win. The Blaze will look to the long offseason to shore up some defensive weaknesses that allowed the Nightmare to score seven rushing touchdowns out of eight scores.

Skopje surprised the Warsaw Stampede and picked up their fourth win of the season. It looks like the Stampede may be looking at another rebuilding season ahead as they have already lost several players to free agency. I still recommend trying to find a kicker and a punter, but the halfback situation should be addressed first.

Five teams in Alpha posted shutouts today: Warsaw GoW over P-burg, Portland over Bayside, Yugoslavian over Black Sea, Vorkuta over St. Petersburg, and Pecs of Steel over Sioux City. Great job, defenses.

Zeta Conference:

Turnovers were huge in Secretville's big win over South City, but it was running back Bullrush Nomark who made the difference in this game. Secretville utilized the league's highest scoring back to his maximum potential, as he ran 42 times for 339 yards and 8 touchdowns. Italy, who should face the Chiefs in round 1 of the playoffs, will be studying the game tape heavily to find the holes in South City's defense that allowed Secretville to take control of the ground game and take the Chiefs out of their game plan.

Chernobyl managed to make me look like a fool as well this week, picking up a surprise win over the Gargoyles. The win puts them at ninth place, setting up an interesting matchup against Edinburgh for the final game to decide who is the best of the rest.

Dresden beat up on the poor Silverbacks to maintain fourth seed, although they will likely not be able to hold on to that position unless Italy can pick up a win against the Wolfpack. See the thread posted by savage99ss for the reasons why.

The Wolfpack punched the Syndicate in the mouth a bit today with a 79-6 victory. Sooner will be in the unenviable position of bottom seed in the playoffs, and will most likely be put out by the Butchers in the first round.

Italy stomped on Edinburgh as expected to maintain their spot in sixth place. They will need to come up big against the Wolfpack to gain any headway, and perhaps set up a rematch with Dresden. Not to pick favorites, but that is a game I would like to see.

Berlin picked up a big win against Dayton to put themselves back into seventh place. They will end up facing Secretville in the first round, a team that no one wants to face in the postseason.

Sicilia picked up their second win of the season against the hapless Gothenburg Flames. The Flames will need at least two seasons or some serious recruiting if they want to compete in this league.

Only one shutout this week in Zeta, and it was a big one, as the Butchers mangled Nizhny 224-0. On a personal note, my player, FS Rysul Gwennithor, got his first career pick in this game, which he returned for a touchdown. Considering I initially was trying to build an Ed Reed type of player, this is a big milestone for me. I don't think I was very successful in building Ed.

There's the recap for Week 15, with some big surprises and excellent games. I will likely post the preview for Week 16 some time this evening, as I have just picked up an extra shift tomorrow so will be working a double. Our final playoff picture will shape up on Super Sunday, which is good because I'll be damned if I want to sit around watching the media suck on the Squealers c*ck all day. Go Cardinals!

ironically though most of the online polls i've seen now have more people picking the Cards than Steelers when it started out the other way last week. even the experts are almost spilt on the sites i've seen, i think only one has a solid majority of them picking the steelers.

Damn, you read that fast. I had just finished proofreading it myself and you had already posted. Despite the Steelers excellent defense, the Cards are riding a wave of momentum that has proven to be a difference in recent Super Bowls. If their D can put good pressure on Big Ben while keeping up coverage on their receivers, Arizona should have a good day.

The cardinals have ZERO chance. The cards were a joke of a team all season long in the worst division in football. The two week break killed any momentum they had. They will not be able to handle the Steelers Def, and kurt warner will leave the game injured. steelers win 30 - 10

Khameleon, maybe your crybaby team should go practice on the field instead of practicing their trash talk. bunch of thugs.

Tell that to last year's Giants, or for that matter, the Steelers of '06. As to the rest of your post, Baltimore has nothing to cry about. We had a better season than anyone could have dreamed at the start of the year. Flacco is just going to get better.

I'm pretty sure everyone thought the Cardinals had no chance against the Falcons, against the Giants, and against the Eagles.

So yeah, they have NO chance.....and then will win.

Who said that?.... I think you meant the Panthers...

I say the only way the Cardinals win this game is if it is handed to them just like the NFC Championship!...

EDIT:.... I got sidetracked.... Thanks for the writeup... good stuff!

baltimorons against the steelers 0-3 (ray lewis MVP of talking)

steelers win 24-10 ... kurt warner HOF talk promptly ceases and his bagging grocery days resume... arizona disappears into mediocracy and anonymity for at least another 3 decades

Yes it was 0-3, but let's take a look at that shall we? Rookie QB, Rookie Head Coach, entirely new gameplan. Game 1, overtime loss. Excellent game with a five minute turnaround due to great pressure from the Steelers D forcing Flacco to turn the ball over. Still he kept his poise and took the game to OT. Game 2, two defenses battling it out until the final drive. Prevent defense prevents the win, with a little help from Instant Replay, but likely the same result even without the controversial call. Game 3, AFC Championship game. Flacco finally looks like a rookie and can't get anything going against a healthy Steelers defense. The Ravens' secondary is so beat up after 18 straight weeks without a bye that they start pulling people out of the stands to play corner. That game featured some of the most brutal hits I've ever seen. IMO, the refs let that one get out of control as far as the violence level goes, on both sides. Like I said, Baltimore has nothing to cry about, what a great season, and the further development of one of the greatest rivalries in the NFL. By the way, y'all can try to get under my skin about the Steelers/Ravens, but you should know that my current roommate is a die-hard Steelers fan, so there isn't much you can say that I haven't heard before. At least I try to be honest about it instead of just being like "Steelers suck!" They don't suck, I just hate them, always have, always will.

If the Cards hit Ben once or twice, he won't be able to see Ward limping over the middle. Cards win 23-17.

They had a hell of a season and are scarier now that they have a potential franchise QB ... glad to see they are going to have some challenges keeping the LB group together ... that is violent rivalry

It's tough to go an entire season without a bye. The bye week the Ravens did get, they only got after a full week of normal practice.
