This week the Eugene SLUGs face off aganist the Dallas HItmen in what is one of the best games of the year every year. Here is a brief history of this storied rivarly.
Season 2- With a playoff berth on the line for both teams, the SLUGs were down 9-3 in what was a dominant defensive showing for both sides. But with 1 minute and 47 seconds left QB Roman Unitas threw a 50 yard touchdown pass to win the game and advance to the playoffs.
Season 3- Meeting earlier in the season this time, the SLUGs had the lead in another tight defensive battle. Earlier in the game the SLUGs safety Hitmen running back Terrence Love in what would be a crucial play for Eugene. With eight minutes left Foot Of Thunder kicked a field goal to put Eugene ahead 8-3. But the Hitmen werent gonna lay down on this one. Dallas quarterback aser gyt lead hes team down into field goal range with 3 minutes left and got his team a field goal, but the Hitmen couldnt hold the SLUGs and Eugene held on the win the Golden Pistol yet again.
Season 4- Eugene made some serious moves in the offseason to take a competitive edge over the HItmen on both sides of the ball. This game wasnt as close as previous matchups, and the Hitmen fell 26-10
Season 5- Dallas was the team that retooled this time and they were ready to take on Eugene's all around better team. It looked as if Dallas would win their first Golden Pistol when they were leading by 10 going into the 4th quarter. But star HB Jukin Jive of the SLUGs led his team back to score 17 unanswered points to snatch the win right under Dallas nose.
Season 6- Due to the SLUGs being promoted, Dallas and Eugene scheduled a scrimmage. This game was one that Dallas didnt have much confidence going into since Eugene was a more experienced team aganist better opponents in A6. But the game was closer than many thought it would be but Eugene still pulled out on top by 14.
Season 7- Both teams are struggling and this is the last "official" battle for the Golden Pistol since the SLUGs are folding. Will Dallas finally win a Pistol? Or will Eugene finish like they have since the start of this rivaly, on top. I will let you decide. But be sure to tune in and see a great game between two historic rivals.
