The last thread I had on this topic was deleted into digital dust by an unknown assailant.

This one will be posted/linked in a few places so hopefully it will go on.

1st - Wondering if YOU will continue putting money into this game. Not looking for complaints, however if you want to state why you are or aren't going to continue you can.

2nd - I decided to figure out how much money was being taken in per season by GLB.

I will post all my figures here, feel free to read or skim or skip (tl,dr) as you wish.
If you DO post about the finances, please also post whether you'll continue buying FP.

Thank You

GLB
Average Team
3 DT - 200 FP = 600 FP
3 DE - 200 FP = 600 FP
4 LB - 200 FP = 800 FP
4 CB - 200 FP = 800 FP
3 S's - 200 FP = 600 FP
1 K - 100 FP = = 100 FP
1 P - 100 FP = = 100 FP
1 FB - 200 FP = 200 FP
2 TE - 200 FP = 400 FP
4 OT - 100 FP = 400 FP
4 G - 100 FP = 400 FP
3 C - 100 FP = 300 FP (yes I know this is unlikely, but you need 40 players, and this is a cheap one)
1 QB - 300 FP = 300 FP
2 HB - 300 FP = 600 FP
4 WR - 300 FP = 1200 FP

I've kept this on the LOW end for everything so it won't be disputable.
Add these FP up and you have a team.

And we're going to assume, for the 'low end' sake that only half the team boosts. So adding up the FP above, you get 7400 FP. Now if half the team boosts 3 times, that's..
7400 x 1.5 (1 and 1/2 boosts, half of the 3 you can do) = 11,100 (Boost FP)
Now add the 7400 Creation FP and the 11,100 Boost FP and you get 18,500 FP

40 Players = 18,500 FP = $130 = 20,000 FP ... so I won't include Custom EQ which some ppl will get so I can round up (the ONLY time) the 18,500 to 20,000

USA = 16 BBB, 8 A, 4 AA, 2 AAA, 1 Pro = 31 Leagues
Canada = 31
West Europe = 31
East Europe = 25
Oceania = 8 A, 4 AA, 2 AAA, 1 Pro = 15 Leagues
So Amer = 15 Leagues
SE Asia = 15 Leagues
Africa = 15 Leauges

178 Leagues of 32 teams = 5696 teams (not including Pee Wee teams, rounding down, remember?)

5696 x $130.oo = just under $750,000 per SEASON.

Now take into account, this is not a thread saying that b/c they're taking this much money in they're robbing us blind or anything, or that everything should be perfect.

EVERY company is required to show their books to their stockholders, and considering we're kind of That. I think it isn't such a bad thing if everyone knows how the company is doing.

That being said, I am glad Bort has hired a new coder, but really think he should hire 3 or 4, sign them to a confidentiality agreement and get the ball rolling a bit quicker. Hire a contract lawyer, a copyright lawyer, and start managing and designating "What to do" rather that "Doing it himself" so much. I think that would make good use of the money, and get this ball rolling faster and more efficiently.

That being said I am not going to be putting any more money into the game at this time. I will reevaluate that decision in a couple seasons.

Thanks for reading dot-lovers.

this is a great post, i hope no one flames this thing to death.

i boost all my players every season since season 1, they all have custom EQ. i have bought new custom EQ multiple times trying to keep my players viable with all the changes that keep happening every season. your estimates are very low end and fair for what you are trying to see, i fully agree with them.

i will probably still buy flex for the simple reason this is the only game I play. I don't belong to message boards or blogs and don't play mmorpg's anytwhere else. I don't play playstation 2 or 3 or xbox 360 online. i work, i drink, i raise a family and other than checking email or surfing porn GLB is one of the few sites i even go to.

So I'll get drunk and bored and then buy some flex some night or look at one of my players and see that their original custom EQ is screwed up because in season 1 i didn't know any better and buy some of that shit too, all well.

This game and website is like looking at a car wreck, you just can't look away. It's screwed up big time with a shitload of SIM flaws, mod flaws, and customer support flaws but what the hell there just isn't anything out there right now that's comparable right now,

I'll buy flex until I stop enjoying the game. I'm only going to keep boosting 3 players which isn't so bad. I think Bort needs to either stop making such sweeping changes or compensate players more when he screws over their builds, but what can you do?

Him making a killing doesn't bother me, he obviously works hard and cares a lot even if he doesn't always make the right decisions.

GLB is a private company, private companies are not required to publish any financial statements only publicly traded companies are. Just because we buy Flex points it doesn't mean that we are investors, we are merely consumers. IKEA is a privately owned company, if you purchase furniture from there it doesn't mean that you have any right to see how they're doing financially.

I'll still be buying Flex Points and I'm quite sure Bort has made a fair amount of money from me. Just like kenyon I don't play any other games like consoles or MMORPGs, so I'll keep playing this as it hopefully gets better.

Every company that HAS stockholders is required to show the books to them. Yes GLB doesn't, but my point is we are KIND of like stockholders, in that WE put the money into the PRODUCT... and instead of stock, we get players.

My REAL point, is that with Bort having pulled in roughly 6 million up to this point, he should've started pumping money back INTO the game a lot sooner. He is just NOW hiring a programmer, and only ONE. If he wanted this to accelerate better, faster, more efficiently, he would start acting like a CEO and not a programmer. And with this kind of money going in, he needs to imo.

Interesting read. I agree that this thing should be treated and ran more like a legitimate company, given the money being made and all. I think GLB has the opportunity to be HUGE and also be able to sustain a solid base of customers.

I will continue purchasing flex points as long as I continue to enjoy the game. I may have to retire a player every couple of seasons just to limit the cost, but oh well.

don't forget, and I know you low balled it, but all the costs associated with running the site. Not to mention how many of those flex dollars are recycled when players are retired or flex discounts, etc. So I dont think he's pulling in 6+ mil a half season, and even if he were, don't forget the taxes owing, bla bla bla....

If he's netting over 500k a year, he's doing well.

This is a private company as far as I know and doesnt have to show dick for its business' financials.

I dont care about the finances, but what i do care about is product service.

Ive spent prolly $120 since season 2. I like your breakdown of the math. I feel ive gotten 120 worth of entertainment for the last few months but because of various far flung situations going on with the game, from the sim, to the random bugginess to the stupid ass moderating, im not spending any more.

I'll retire players and keep playing. I really like GMing teams and building ais and screwing off on the forums and watching my players but .... money is hard to come by and i'm just invested at my maximum level for this game.

Well, it was 750k a season, about 6 million since the beginning of last year when he started.
And yeah I left out a lot of things ppl can pay for, and a lot they get free... and all that shit that would've taken hours to figure out.
If you think he's paying over 200k a month for his server's you're nuts! a season is roughly 45 days. 750k every 45 days, I can't see his expenses being more than 250k MAX... which means half a million every 45 days; not a year.

And since he does most/all the work himself, except for his customer support (roflmao) he doesn't have to pay anyone else or anything else.
Yeah taxes will come, but that's 20-30% max ... probably less after he does deductions and what not.

Again the REAL point is that he's pulling the money in to have made MORE changes, FASTER, and BETTER... And a lot of ppl are getting tired of waiting, tired of being ignored (customer service), and tired of inconsistency. When you factor in the $$ they're taking in it's that much more annoying.

Entrepenuers are usually the worst businesspeople in the world.

Thats a well know maxim.

I ve see a LOT of cpu teams pop up in all leagues lately. wouldnt suprise me if the economics of this game rapidly went negative on them.

If i were bort, id look at what the mods do and what i provide as a service a good deal closer than what appears to the average joe playing this game.

Just like the gov't. . . the common people offer better suggestions and input than the higher ups ever could. I suppose it's just a way to live. Or.. something like that.

Atleast start giving back FP to championship teams or something.

and why, if it is a business, can't I buy the right to have a persons players transferred to me. Why is that so out of the question. I have asked to be put back in this league. I might have a shot at 500 here. When you have to recruit a hole dam team in AAA your record doesn't help out.

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE

Remember that people are using old flex points to build new players and boost new players. I've retired several guys for the flex and then reused flex, but yeah I came up with similar numbers when I ran my figures about 3 months ago. I had it at around 500K per GLB season and tried to keep it on the low figure side. He pretty much has to make his money as fast as possible and get all he can because I don't think this game will support him forever. Also taxes in America for wealthy businesses is closer to 40%.
