Zeta Conference:
Week 10 is mostly gimme games for Zeta Con, so we'll go over those quickly before taking a look at Zeta's game of the week.
Bratislava vs Gateshead: The Butchers will hold on to first seed with this easy win, 86-13 over the Gargoyles.
Secretville vs Southeast: The Silverbacks will lay a big gorilla goose-egg against the Offtopics. Secretville wins 154-0.
Dresden vs Edinburgh: Although both teams are 6-3, Dresden should have no difficulty with the War-pipers. 79-24, Doomsday.
Warsaw vs Gothenburg: The winless Flames stay winless, while the Wolfpack stay in playoff contention. Warsaw III wins 110-7.
Berlin vs Sicilia: The Warriors remain at the bottom of the conference after this game, as the Crusaders cruise to a 135-3 win.
Sooner vs Dayton: Look for the Syndicate to get themselves back into the hunt, defeating the Outlaws to tie for 8th seed with Edinburgh. 72-14, Sooner.
Nizhny vs Chernobyl: This weeks battle of the bad teams should be pretty competitive, with the Mariners trying to prove that they are better than the CPU. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Mariners win it 28-17.
Zeta Game of the Week - South City vs Italy: The league's leading rusher against the conference's leading passer with a lot of post-season implications. A South City win keeps them in the running for the number 2 seed, as either the Offtopics or Butchers will end up with a loss after week 13. If the Guardians win, they stand an excellent chance of maintaining the third seed, having already played Bratislava and Secretville, and giving them the tiebreaker over the Chiefs. The strongest defense will prevail, but the key to the win may wind up being the Chiefs reliable leg, Doc McDoctor. This will be a tight game, but the edge goes to the Chiefs, 31-28.
Alpha Conference:
Not much really exciting in Alpha this week either, so again a quick peek and the game of the week.
Portland vs P-burg: The Players are a solid team with some glaring weaknesses in depth. They won't be able to hold off the number one seeded Niners, who will win, 66-14.
Warsaw GoW vs Bayside: The bottom of the conference will continue to be the Tigers' home after this week, with no chance of defeating the fearsome Gods of War. GoW obliterates Bayside 178-0.
Stalingrad vs Yugoslavian: Perhaps the Roid Pushers don't realize it, but steroids shrink your dink. The Ironmen make girlie-men out of the Pushers, 157-3.
Vilnius vs Skopje: The Raptors' chemistry is finally looking decent after the major hit they took with early signings this season. They would beat up on the poor Kardinals even with poor chemistry, but the improvement makes it that much harder on Skopje. Velociraptors take it to em 110-28.
Tallinn vs Sioux City: Every time I glance at the standings, I perceive Sioux City as South City, which would be a far more interesting game than this one. The Nightmare will scare the bejeezus out of the Bandits 90-18.
Saratov vs St Petersburg: The Piranhas don't have the defense to get it done against the Blaze. Saratov can stay in the hunt with a win, and will do so 77-21.
Warsaw vs Black Sea: Alpha's bad team battle pits the Stampede against the Rebels. As long as Warsaw doesn't have to kick the ball (an OT is your kicker? Really?), they shouldn't have too much of a problem picking up their third win, 52-20.
Alpha Game of the Week - Vorkuta vs Pecs of Steel: The SuperPecs have taken some lumps lately, losing to two strong teams in a row and seeing their playoff chances start to slide. Vorkuta is a tough team that hasn't really beaten anyone of consequence, so this is their opportunity to make a statement about who they are as a team. Normally in a game this numerically close, I would predict chemistry to be the deciding factor, but Vilnius threw a monkey wrench into that idea when they shut out the Pecs of Steel with pretty big chemistry issues themselves. The Yellowhammers have kept every loss close, while trouncing their opponents in every win. Lex Luthor proves to be the deciding factor again, providing the Kryptonite needed to beat the Pecs 44-33. The good news for the Pecs is that they maintain 7th seed on the basis of head to head wins against the Blaze and the Players.
A few interesting matchups but mostly little of playoff consequence for this week. Most teams are already starting to see the light at the end of the regular season tunnel, and the fight to crown the EEA4 champion. As always, comments and criticisms are encouraged.
