Alpha Rankings for Week 8
1 (2).... Valletta Vikings (7-0)
2 (3).... New Orleans Bayou Bengals (6-1)
3 (4).... Austrian Eagles (6-1)
4 (1).... Geneva Plague (6-1)
5 (8).... Glasgow Bravehearts (3-4)
6 (9).... Copenhagen VooDoo (5-2)
7 (5).... dax atlantique storms (5-2)
8 (6).... South Yorkshire Aftershocks (5-2)
9 (7).... Stockholm Cows (4-3)
10 (10).. Rome Legion (4-3)
11 (11).. St. Petersburg Knights (2-5)
12 (12).. Berlin Blaze (1-6)
13 (13).. Capri Elites (1-6)
14 (15).. Madrid Strikers (1-6)
15 (16).. Marseille Hitmen (2-5)
16 (14).. Leipzig Lava Flow (0-7)
quite a few changes this week: after sitting atop the rankings for several weeks Geneva drops all the way down to #4. do I think they will finish the season at that position? no, but New Orleans is still unbeaten in the conference and Austria's strength of victory is significantly higher right now.
both Glasgow and Copenhagen made big jumps and sit now at 5 and 6, respectively. South Yorkshire dropped two places due to their abysmal offensive performance against Capri and Leipzig proved me wrong and showed that they're the worst team in Alpha by losing to the CPU team of Marseille.
Alpha Games of the Week
#1 Valletta Vikings (7-0) vs. #2 New Orleans Bayou Bengals (6-1)
A back-to-back GOTW appearance for the Vikings. Winning this game would all but assure them the #1 seed for the playoffs since they already defeated Geneva and Austria. New Orleans is still unbeaten in Alpha but I'm not sold on them (yet) - they struggled mightily against Glasgow and have yet to play Geneva and Austria in the second half of the season. I believe Valletta willprove they're worthy of the #1 spot. However, if the Bengals do add a few more players in two days as they announced they might be the team to beat in the postseason.
My prediction: Valletta by 6
#8 South Yorkshire Aftershocks (5-2) vs. #6 Copenhagen VooDoo (5-2)
South Yorkshire had a great start to the season but the way their offense played against the lowly Capri Elites has to be a concern. Copenhagen was not thought to be a playoff contender at the start of the season ("decent newcomer, but the playoffs will be out of reach.") but they have firmly entrenched themselves in the top half of the conference. The VooDoo is one of the hottest teams in Apha right now and that's the reason why I'd bet my money on them in this game.
My prediction: Copenhagen by 10
