After a week away I'm back. A lot of shuffling up this week. Black River drops from the list of undefeated, leaving only Cincy. Somebody bring some Canada Pride and beat the lousy US team .

Nova Scotia plays in another Game of the Week. I promise guys I don't do that on purpose.

Games of the Week

Black River Rats vs Nova Scotia Lions (-1.461)

Predictions:
Black River Rats by 1

West (best combined Bender ranking)
Edmonton Thunderchiefs vs Manitoba Maulers (-1.385)

Predictions:
Maulers by 5

Last Ranking: 3-0
For the Season: 10-3

I was hoping for another strength of schedule chart. Nova Scotia has to be in the top 5 still after the Black River game.

Windsor is definitely #1 in real and Bender rankings. Black River Rats and Nova Scotia, man, this game will say a lot about how the playoffs go down. If it's as close as the prediction thinks it will be then the playoffs will be interesting to say the least.

Stats aren't everything. We know 6YP is good, they just don't have the stats to say it I guess.

Do the ratings factor in strength of schedule?

Dude, I think everyone's strength of schedule is pretty high. At least in the West. It's like the SEC for God's sake.

Its like the SEC in 2007 in 2007 at least. Last year, we didn't have quite as much parity, the top two teams were unquestionably the top two.

Moose Jaw scrimmed both Black River and Nova Scotia. Both teams are pretty close, IMO!

I'll take Black River by 3, 27-24. Should be a great game.

Sorry for the noob question, but I"m still new to these "rankings"...but Bender would you mind explaining to me what the "strength of record" and the "quality of Play" numbers mean?

Is the higher the number in the Record the tougher their remaining schedule is? and under quality is the higher the better or worse? it goes all the way to the negative...lol

Strength of Record is basically how tough your schedule has been up to this point.

Quality of play is how much you've beat the spread by (so if you're negative, then you haven't beat the spread). In other words, Arroz have murdered the spread.

For strength or record and quality of play, the higher the number the better. These are taken from the Power Rankings Spreadsheet found on GLBwiki.com. They are completely separate from my own rankings listed at the top of the page.

definitions of each from GLBwiki:

Strength of Record

Equation

Strength of Record = (Total number of wins of opponents you have defeated) - (Total number of losses of opponents that have beaten you)

Definition

This is measure of how good a team is. It rewards beating good teams and punishes for losing to bad teams.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Quality of Play

Equation

Quality of Play = (Actual total point differential) - (Predicted total point differential)

Definition

It is essentially how many points (total) that team has beaten (or not beaten) the spread by. I feel it is a good indicator of whether a team is playing better or worse than expected.

Difficult to say. I think in a rematch Windsor can take Toronto.

These were the big plays in the game.
Toronto gets a pick six:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=316917&pbp_id=4258987
Windsor scores a FG then a TD, on the kickoff Windsor forces and recovers the fumble:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=316917&pbp_id=4260187
Same drive, down at the 2 yard line, Windsor fumbles it and Toronto recovers for a touchdown
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=316917&pbp_id=4260761
Toronto gets a FG, Windsor gets a FG, then Toronto gets a TD.

If it weren't for the turnovers, Windsor could have won 20-10.
