Here's what I've come up with after seeing 5 regular season games.
Don't ask me who your wins or losses will come from. I looked at schedules, and guesstimated the balance of everyone's schedule. This is how I project the standings will finish, barring any major changes in rosters or tactics:
1. College 6-Year Plan (Scotty's Projection: 14-2)
The only test they've had thus far in Manitoba from the West. I expect them to maybe hit 1 more bump in the road vs. 1 of them 3 or 4 teams below them. Once again: Tactics & Builds > Levels This team is a prime example of it. Blanced offense, but more importantly, the #1 Scoring Defense in the East thus far giving up only 7.4 points per game.
2. Black River Rats (Scotty's Projection: 14-2)
Last undefeated team in the East, but it may not last long. They've got a some really tough games coming up against the competition they are surrounded by in this poll. Good tactics, plus overall solid builds make Black River a tough team to beat. #1 Rushing team in the East. Also the #4 Scoring Defense in the East.
3. Windsor Warhammers (Scotty's Projection: 13-3)
Not to be slighted, this team could very easily finish on top as well. #2 Rushing team AND #2 Defense make for a tough opponent. Only 1 bump in the road so far. The season finale between Windsor and Black River poptentially has major playoff seeding implications. It's possible they'll be battling for the #1 or #2 seed here. Stayed tuned.
4. Toronto Thunder (Scotty's Projection: 13-3)
Another team that can still easily finish on top. Far and away the top passing team in the conference with regards to production, putting up close to 400 yds per game through the air. Mighty Moncton was able to figure them out. Let's see if it opens the door for others to keep them down.
5. Mighty Moncton Nighthawks (Scotty's Projection: 12-4)
Speaking of MM...Another well coached, well built team. Very tough early schedule, but is poised to go on a good run. Should be battling for a first round homegame in the playoffs if they can keep things going.
6. Nova Scotia Lions (Scotty's Projection: 11-5)
2 out of the next 3 games could propel them higher quickly. They've played their schedule very well thus far. Look for Nova Scotia to continue to do some damage. 1 of 5 defenses to keep their opponents under 20 points per game.
7. Thunder Bay Marauders (Scotty's Projection: 10-6)
Excellent team that has lost a couple close games to really good opponents. This is another team that could easily prove my prediction wrong. The early toughness of their schedule may pay off in the long run. We haven't heard the last of the Marauders yet.
8. Napa Storm (Scotty's Projection: 10-6)
This is a team that is right there with the rest. Their season will be defined by a brutal stretch of their schedule from weeks 9-13. If they can get some quality wins in that strecth, they'll be right there in the mix.
9. Thunder Bay Hitmen (Scotty's Projection: 8-8)
Solid team with solid builds. This team had a very tough schedule to start the season. They could easily turn this around if they can find a way to knock off some tough teams. They have the talent to do it. They should find themselves in the running for the final playoff spot.
10. Port Dover Panthers (Scotty's Projection: 8-8)
Same as the Hitmen above. They've got the team to do it. The schedule makers gave them a very difficult schedule to start off the season. They could easily make a fool out of me and finish it off with 10 wins. Like Thunder Bay, they should find themselves battling for a final playoff spot.
11. Great Lakes Rum Runners (Scotty's Projection: 3-13)
This is where the official drop-off is. Sorry GLRR, but don't get mad, get even. You have solid builds, only problem being that you are out-leveled. This may be a case of needing better tactics, because I believe your talent is better than your record.
12. St. Catherine's Stompers (Scotty's Projection: 3-13)
This is another of the teams I project will win 3 or 4 games. Levels are there, but the builds and tactics leave a lot of room for improvement.
13. Yukon Effyourself (Scotty's Projection: 3-13)
I still think they could be a sleeper, but a playoff run is unlikely. They could put it together yet and squeeze out a few more wins, but I think they've got a little work to do.
14. Ottawa Storm Troopers (Scotty's Projection: 3-13)
Out-leveled by a mile. They'll need a season or 2 yet to compete in this league.
15. Quebec Eagles (Scotty's Projection: 1-15)
They'll get their win in week 11 against the team below, but they have a lot of work to do to compete in A#5. Another year of level-ups may help.
16. Guelph Cows (Scotty's Projection: Detroit Lions)
Not wasting more finger energy.
