Well, a while back we had a discussion about trying to stay ahead of the DEs - get that spd/agi up. A lot of people, myself included, figured 48+some training on speed would be enough. My logic was that DEs are basically as fast as they are going to get, save some negligible natural gains and +4 equip every 2 seasons.

But now, DEs are about to get +10 speed +10 agility overnight with these darn veteran attributes. I think its time to rethink what you consider a fast/agile offensive lineman. 48/60 is once again, not going to be enough, in my opinion.

Something to think about, for those of you who like to think ahead of the curve, rather than react as things come up....

ESPECIALLY all of you who plan on doing +strength +blocking with your points. Just think about it - it might be mathematically sound, but you're doing exactly what happened when DEs started to own OTs: OTs went too much str, DEs went all spd/agi and won the battle. Don't let them get another head start this offseason...

OT, yes, G, maybe, C, no.

Or does this only apply to max level players in pro leagues facing the same competition year in and year out? lol

And I think you can offset high agility DTs with good blocking.

...maybe with 100 or 110 (I know for sure that 85 blocking doesn't do jack). If the center doesn't neutralize the NT, the guards will have to help out - this creating problems both to rushing as well as passing plays.

Oct, personally, I plan to use my STR/BLK bonuses to shift EQ into SPD/AGI while I work those raw skills up.

I can do 15 Workout Warrior, shift 10 EQ points into Speed and VIOLA! Same build, +10 SPD. Ditto for BLK as I have EQ in there as well for another +10 to SPD/AGI.

Easiest way to boost SPD/AGI, much bigger return than Track Stah or Quick.

And remember...if your OT is at 60 spd/70 agi...and the DEs are at 90 spd and 100 agi...YOU ARE SLOW BY COMPARISON!

I'm still not convinced that speed is important to OL. I don't remember my LT getting beat by a DE because my LT was slow in season 6. I have good agility and plenty in Protector SA and was plenty fast in dropping back to pass block.

I think the big word here is comparison. 50 speed sounds absurd when you have a 25 speed. It sounds slow to a DE.

hakjak, that guy had 16 sacks on the season. Not saying you're wrong or your OT couldn't stop a better DE, but that point would be stronger if shown against a better DE.

What happened to the play by play in the game results page?

Of that DE's 20 sacks in the regular season/playoffs, only 4 came in competitive games.

Yeah, using veteran stuff on spd/agi is not the answer. Shifting equip and getting them up to another cap is the answer. I'm just acknowledging that there will be a day that 48/60 isn't enough like it is right now (against 99.5% of DEs), and it's coming sooner than I thought a week ago.

ya, sooner than I had planned as well...but at the end of the day, the fundamentals of building a great OL are the same.

Strong
Quick
Agile
Blocker

All 3 of my OTs are going to go with Great Blocker as a veteran ability. The difference is that they're also going to have EQ in Agility. My level 19 T has 80 agility.

Speed + agility seems to determine quickness in GLB. That said, I still lean towards agility being most important in that sense.

I don't think speed is an attribute that absolutely needs to be capped, not before agility and vision at least. To me it's more about blocking and agility than speed and agility. I don't know how many times I've seen a DE bounce off an OT because that guy probably put his points into speed or strength instead of some blocking.

In general, I agree with most of what you say, but this is a bit of an exaggeration. The very highest end DEs were pretty much 70-75 speed, 100-105 agility (or the same but with speed and agility swapped).

Now what happens when those DE's put 10 to 15 points in "Quick" and "Track Star"?

This is what could be the case:

A DE slowbuilds agility and speed to 68 each. In his mid to high 30's, for ease lets say he has a raw score of a about 75 in both attributes. He selects Quick and Track Star, investing 15 in each. In the meantime, he's shopped around and found a great AE piece of +3 agility / +1 SA. He also has custom.

So here's what it could look like:

75 agility + 11.25 from quick + 6 custom + 7 AE + 5 level 32 equipment = 104.25
75 speed + 11.25 from track star + 10 level 32 gear = 96.25

And he hasn't hit 40, so he's looking forward to new equipment, too.

Since he slow built, at 35+, he's got his strength up to 60, tackling to 40+, and vision to 48, and he's looking forward to the next 6 seasons of play.
