3 (3).... Rome Legion (13-2)
4 (5).... Black Forest Brawlers (12-3)
5 (4).... Geneva Plague (10-5)
6 (6).... Valletta Vikings (11-4)
7 (7).... Austrian Eagles (11-4)
8 (8).... Glasgow Bravehearts (8-7)
9 (9).... Marseille Hitmen (8-7)
10 (10).. St. Petersburg Knights (6-9)
11 (11).. Guy Fawkeses (4-11)
12 (12).. Madrid Strikers (4-11)
13 (13).. Capri Elites (3-12)
14 (14).. South Yorkshire Aftershocks (2-13)
15 (15).. Pawtucket Patriots (1-14)
16 (16).. Stockholm Cows (0-15)
the Brawlers are clicking at the right time, thus moving up in the power rankings. with another win in their season finale they will host a first-round playoff game, which seemed very unlikely after early season losses to Rhine and Rome.
Alpha Games of the Week
#4 Black Forest Brawlers (12-3) vs. #7 Austrian Eagles (11-4)
This game will decide who gets the 4th homegame in the first playoff round. If Black Forest wins they'll host Valletta, if Austria wins and Valletta falls to Rhine the Eagles would get the #4 seed. If Austria wins and Valletta wins the 3-way tie would be decided by total points scored, which would favor Black Forest.
The Eagles have been overachieving most of the season and I believe it'll show up this week - the Brawlers will take the win and the #4 seed!
My prediction: Black Forest by 10
#2 Rhine Revolt (13-2) vs. #6 Valletta Vikings (11-4)
The Revolt were handed their second loss of the season last week - they'll make sure not to get another L against Valletta. The Vikings have dropped their last 2 and could very easily lose their third consecutive game. If they do so they'll be limping into the playoffs which would make it tough to survive the first round because their morale would definitely suffer - they need this win badly!
My prediction: Rhine by 7
I decided to write a few words about every game since it's the last week of the regular season.
#15 Pawtucket Patriots vs. #9 Marseille Hitmen
The French will take care of business and win this game easily. They'll still have to watch the playoffs on the couch if Glasgow doesn't lose to Madrid which doesn't seem very likely. Pawtucket will finish its first season with just one win - hope is that the new owner will get the ship right for next season.
#16 Stcokholm Cows vs. #10 St. Petersburg Knights
The Cows will have a lot of work to do in the offseason, they haven't been competetive all year. The Knights looked like a team that could make the playoffs at the start of the season but they couldn't come through. I expect them to be in the playoff hunt next season. Knights win this one big.
#13 Capri Elites vs. #5 Geneva Plague
The one-man team from Capri had a rough first season and I think that may continue if the owner doesn't get any other agents on his team. The Plague had trouble early on but came on strong lately. I'm sure all teams will try to avoid them in the playoffs. Geneva will finish the season on a 5 game winning streak and is my early favorite for an upset special in the playoffs.
#11 Guy Fawkeses vs. #14 South Yorkshire Aftershocks
Two teams that have nothing to play for except pride. Both will find themselves in a similar situation next season if no major changes will be made. The Guy Fawkeses should come out as the winner of this Battle of Britain.
#12 Madrid Strikers vs. #8 Glasgow Bravehearts
What a disappointing season it has been for the Spaniards. They seemed to be a lock for the playoffs in preseason, then had a brutal schedule to start the regular season and for some reason never got it going thereafter. Glasgow, on the other hand, has been one of the suprise teams. All they have to do to reach the playoffs is get their 9th win of the season in this game and I believe they'll do exactly that.
#1 Turmoil Spartans vs. #3 Rome Legion
The Spartans are still undefeated and have secured homefield advantage throughout the playoffs, will they share the Patriots' destiny? Rome has been flying under the radar lately, winning games against the weaker teams in unimpressive fashion - either they aren't as good as they looked in the first half of the season or they tried to hide their hand for this game. Either way, a few weeks ago I thought this might be the game where Turmoil would be handed their first and only loss of the season but I just don't see it happening. The Spartans will get the perfect regular season!
