Lots of trash talk before and after today's games. The NBK vs. Cowthorpe rivalry was not unexpected but København vs. Argonauts is now at least for today a heated game. On to the recaps:

Stockholm Black Death (9-1) at Vatican City Fighting Popes (6-4) 20-14

The crowd at the Sistine Chapel was silenced by the passing game of the Black Death as Stockholm improves to 9-1 with a win over the Fighting Popes. The Popes fell behind early when Stockholm QB Big Throwing Dog held tough in the pocket for what seemed like an eternity before he hit a pass to White Lightning Bug for a 36.5 yard score in the first quarter. Vatican City managed to tie the game up in the opening moments of the second quarter but after a Black Death field goal less than 3 minutes later Stockholm never again surrendered the lead.

Torpedo Cowthorpe (8-2) at Natural Born Killers (6-4) 17-10

In what has quickly turned into the first true rivalry in WEBBB #1 Torpedo took the bragging rights in the first of what will hopefully be many meetings between these two teams. The Cowthorpe took the lead on their first drive and never trailed NBK in the game mostly due to the dominant rushing attack. Stud Torpedo HB Micro Lab3 was a force to be reckoned with, breaking 15 tackles on 34 rushes for 166 yards and a TD and taking a short pass from QB Michael Dauber II 46.5 yards for the gamebreaking score in the second quarter.

Tilburg Dream (3-7) at iue5 acolytes (8-2) 40-83

The wheels fell off the Tilburg Dream when they blitzed their way into the most points allowed in an Alpha game this year as the acolytes roll to a 43 point victory. iue5 QB Donovan Martinez had the game of his life going 12 for 16 for 568.5yds, 10 TDs and no interceptions. Tilburg rushed every available player often and early and wore down the iue5 defense by the end of the game by letting the offense score at will and were able to notch 19 points in the 4th quarter to make this one look slightly less lopsided than it really was.

East Cairo Argonauts (4-6) at København Hühnerfalken (7-3) 17-16

The stunned fans at The Killing Field filed out quietly as the Argonauts shocked the Hühnerfalken late in the game. The two teams played each other tight with neither team ever taking a lead greater than 8 points. Then in a turn of events that was fun for those of us on the outside to watch, East Cairo drove the ball into the København redzone and capped the drive with a touchdown by HB TwinkleToes Hillsowski with only 35 seconds on the clock to take the lead. København then drove down the field to East Cairo's 40, took a timeout with just 4 seconds left, and then inexplicably punted on the final play of the game in lieu of kicking a 57 yard field goal or trying the Hail Mary. A bizarre finish to an amazing game.

Passion Fruits (6-4) at Ingolstadt Hat Tossers (6-4) 17-27

The Haberdashery at Klenze Park was the scene of an amazing defensive effort by the home town Hat Tossers as they took over the game in the 4th quarter with two big late TDs. The contest was heated with both teams establishing themselves on the ground and each team struggling through the air. Ingolstadt's defense was spectacular forcing two fumbles on Passion's HB Jerome "Big Bus" McNasty and securing the game with a late interception. The Hat Tossers' special teams sealed the deal with 2 huge fumble recoveries including a force by CB Martin Bannister recovered by FS Mike Kettell which led to Ingolstadt's final TD.

Cambridge Chieftains (6-4) at Amsterdam Dragon's (2-8) 42-7

The Chieftains raided Dragon Stadium in a one-sided game punctuated by Amsterdam's inability to stop the Cambridge running game. The Chieftains very capable HB Harold Butcher took his 24 rushes for 194yds and 2 TDs. The play of the game came when Amsterdam's FB Furio Lauri coughed up the ball after a vicious hit by Cambridge MLB Landry Bottle. The ball was scooped up by speedy DE Dagwood End who shot upfield 82.5 yards for a defensive TD.

Heidelberg Hitmen (4-6) at Warfield Hellbringers (4-6) 24-23

Warfield couldn't hold off the Hitmen in a close matchup at Hell Field. Heidelberg fell behind by 17 points at the half and it seemed like the Hitmen were on their way to another heartbreaking loss. Whatever owner kyle321n said to them at half time sparked the team however and Heidelberg rallied in the second half setting themselves up for a game winning TD with under 2 minutes to play. WR 4shizzle mynizzle caught a short pass from Heidelberg QB Kellen Moore to take the lead by 1 and a fumble forced by Jack Strawe closed the game out.

Nikopolis Stoic Hedonists (1-8) at Red River Ruminants (3-7) 10-44

Red River mugged the hapless Hedonists in blowout fashion in a game that saw the Ruminants dominate through the air. Red River QBs Mike Clemmons and Minor Miracle combined for 313 yards through the air and 4 TDs and WR Warren Wright was the beneficiary of two of the TDs on 5 receptions.

This week's recaps took me forever to do, nearly an hour watching the various games almost all of which were very entertaining.
