They are conducting an official vote to possibly rename the conferences in Eastern Europe from Alpha/Zeta to something more meaningful.

My idea (Olympic / Barbaric) made the cut. If it wins, we can brag that the new name came out of EEA4.

FYI, this was my sell on Olympic / Barbaric.

Olympic for the Southern regions where the Greek Gods come from (Mt. Olympus anyone). Barbaric for the Northern region where the brutish Germanic tribes and Scandinavian warlords come from.

They are opposite sides of the same coin: Olympians are praised, while Barbarians are feared, yet both are respected and known for athletic prowess, which is what football is all about.

Just curious, why can't we just roll with east/west like the USA conferences?

The argument is that Europe is already broken up into East and West Regional Leagues. So the next logical step would be North/South.

Bort stated some time ago that he would like to have more meaningful/interesting names for each region.

Alpha/Zeta is kindof dumb when you consider it should be Alpha/Omega if you are sticking with the Greek alphabet. And it is the default of all the Regions.

Africa had it's conferences changed to Elephant and Lion. Southeast Asia had it's conferences changed to Naga and Garuda.

I changed my vote to Olympic/Barbaric. It wasn't an option when I originally voted.

The vote is down to 2 choices. Either we get unique names for conferences in our Region or it remains the default, which is the same as the other regions.

The choices are:

Since is wasn't an overwhelming majority, there will be no change. The generic Alpha/Zeta will remain in place for now.

Where I come from, the conferences would be named Alpha/Omega, but whatever.
