Ok....a lot of good games this week. I'm not sure how close all the games will be, but the matchups are really interesting.
Game of the Week #1....,Are the Destroyers really as good as their record?
Wake Island vs. Newcastle
This is the game that will give us a good reading on where the Destroyers are. I know where Newcastle is and they are still my favorite to win the conference. My feeling is that the Destroyers are a good team that will compete....for a while. I don't think they can stay with the Mino's though. The Destroyers did beat Tuvalu in a game that surprised me, but Newcastle is not Tuvalu. I think, yes again , that the Destroyers defense will not be able to slow down Newcastle enough to stay close in the second half. I see Newcastle pulling away in the second half to win comfortably...say by 4 TD's.
Game of the Week #2.....Can anybody slow down Osaka?
Osaka vs. Antarctica
The Buckeyes have been running roughshod over all comers so far this year....and looking very good doing it. The Seals have improved this year, but are they good enough to give the Buckeyes a tough game. Heck....I don't know! When I look at the teams I say yes, but after the beating they put on a very good Vanuatu team....I wonder. Either way, the Seals will strap it up and see if they can be the team to bring the Buckeyes back to earth. This game will determine if the Seals are a legitimate championship contender or firmly entrenched in the 2nd tier. I think the Seals will keep this game close, but come up a little short. I do think the Buckeye blowouts stop in this game. Buckeyes by 7.
Game of the Week #3.....I told you there were some good games!
Chillicothe vs USGD
This will be an important game to really see where USGD fits in the playoff picture. USGD took a beating against Osaka last week, but so has everybody else. This will slot USGD into where they fit with the rest of the conference playoff hopefuls. The Convicts have done a good job on Offense this year and I think that trend will continue. USGD is solid, but I don't think they will be able to score with Chillicothe. Convicts by 3 TD's.
Vanuatu vs Tonga:
The Volcano are better than Tonga on both sides of the ball and it will show up in this game early and late. Vanuatu wins this game easily. I don't think Tonga is ready to step up into the next tier yet. Volcano by lots.
SAFS vs. Gold Coast
Another interesting game. When I look at the teams, they are fairly close. A closer inspection leads me to believe that the SAFS are a little better on both sides of the ball though. If the Samurai are to pull this game out, they will need to win the turnover battle. I think the SAFS win this game a little easier than it would seem on initial glance. SAFS by 2 TD's.
Tuvalu vs. Hattrick
I don't see Hattrick being able to slow down the Matadors enough to win this game. I think the Matador's will start early and just keep piling the points up. Hattrick just does not match up in the trenches against Tuvalu. The Matadors win easily.
Somebody has to win these next two games....Relagation Bowl?
Sydney vs. Cairns
The Hammerhead can still put points up, but they can't stop anybody....except maybe the Drunk Fu. The Fire will get their first win for the season in this game. Cairns wins a shootout by 3 TD's.
Drunk Fu vs. Penrith City
Penrith will walk off with this win easily. Drunk Fu is setting up for the future....Penrith gets a well deserved walk over win. Outlaws by lots and lots.
