After four weeks of play, or 1/4 of the season gone, things are starting to get interesting.
I'll start with the Zeta conference. In previous seasons Zeta has been considered the tougher division. That was until the shift of power when last years Alpha Champs, The Nuremberg Nighthawks, were able to defeat The Minoan Minotaurs.
After that it was as if the stars realigned, and soon after with Bort's decision to adjust the leagues there were talks that Alpha would be the tougher conference for the new season. Now four weeks in to the season I'm not sure if anyone would be willing to argue just yet. Especially after the 13-3 romping that Alpha gave Zeta in week 1.
Alone atop of the Zeta Conference, with the only remaining undefeated record, is the Morgantown Biscuits. The Biscuits have yet to play a legitimate contender, that is until week 5 when they have to walk into the "Monkey Cage" to play Frankfurt. This is just the beginning of a tough 5 game stretch where I wouldn't be surprised if they only won 1-2 games. Yet this is why we have to play the game, as the pre-season favorites The Istanbul Turks have learned the hard way with 2 early losses.
Over in the Alpha Conference, 3 sit atop the polls.
First up the Chernobyl Toxic Avengers. So far the Toxic Avengers have looked like a definite contender. In week four they posted an impressive win over the rising Refugees. I look for them to weather the tsunami's next week, but then they face a tough 3 game gauntlet. Which includes the Wrath, Blitzkrieg, and Spartans. I wouldn't be surprised if they were able to take 2 out of 3 if not all of them.
Up next are the Blitzkrieg who already have a quality win on their resume against the Buffalo Range Roamers. In my opinion they have the most favorable schedule of the top 3 as they seem to have a cupcake game between each tough one. Their next challenge doesn't come until Week 7 against the Toxic Avengers, when 2 possibly undefeated teams may collide. The Krieg are a well coached team and look for them to be in the thick of it at seasons end.
Finally we have the last undefeated team in the Georgia Generals. The Generals most impressive win came in week 1 vs the Tallinn Tigers. Next week the Generals rack up some stats against the Grande Dogs, but then have to get serious for the pre-gauntlet section of their schedule. Week 6 they must play the constantly improving Refugees and the next week they have to walk into The "Ring of Fire" to play the Tsunami. If the Generals can keep their composure and win these 2 then they walk in undefeated to a tough 3 game span against the Wrath, Blitzkrieg, and Anarchy. If they can keep the pressure off their QB and not turn the ball over then they could come out without a blemish on their record by the skin of their teeth. I'll give them 2 out of 3. (Though I'm hoping we do better
)
Good luck to our final 4 undefeated teams because things will get interesting in the next few weeks. I'm sure some 1 loss teams will be out to prove themselves as well... upsets?
