The Chupacabras returned home after a big opening day win over Liverpool to face the 0-1 Chernobli Stalkers. One of the main off-season storylines besides the free agent signings, was the construction on the Barcelona stadium. Team Owner Cowboys expanded the stadium a great deal to allow more fans to watch their home town Chupacabras play. "These fans are what drives our team. You're not going to find a better fan base in all of Europe so we want as many to be able to enjoy this team as possible. We feel as though we have a special product on the field and it's going to be a special season," Cowboys said before the game. The 33,960 rabid fans that attended the game in Urban Legend Memorial Stadium were not disappointed.
Coach Cowboys promised there would be more passing from prized QB acquisition Ryan Rouse in game 2 and he delivered on that promise. The Chupacabras came out throwing early and often as the first two Barcelona drives ended in touchdown passes. One to Poststreptococcal Glomerulonephritis for 11 yards and the next a 31 yard strike to Tight End Billy Stinson. Jennifer Crowley, a member of the fan base known as Rouse's Rockers, had this to say, "GOD he is so hot! Yeah and he can throw the ball too. We're going to be at every game this year just for when Rouse comes up and greets the crowd before and after every game. We love our Chupacabras!!"
With the game in hand early, it was once again a running back show late in the game and the other big name acquisition Flozell Spears also put on a show. Flozell ran for 136 yards and also caught 4 passes for 57 yards and found the end zone twice en route to another game MVP award. His second in as many games. But the argument could be made for the entire team. Backup RB Cory Gent also ran for 129 yards and 2 TD's putting up similar numbers to Spears on the ground. No running back averaged under 5.4 yards per carry. Rouse was also kept upright the entire game for the second game in a row as the line did not surrender a sack. Rouse had this to say, "The offensive line...they're the real offensive MVP's. They make my job so easy. I never have to worry about who's coming from my blind side. I could raise a family back there. And the rushing averages speak for themselves about the holes those guys open up. We've got the best line in the league, easily. This was really fun to do this for our home fans."
Not to be overlooked, the defense was phenomenal again as they held the Stalkers to just 3 points on the game. As a unit they have given up 10 points on the season. Oh Noes was a monster again as he lead the team with 8 tackles, 5 for sacks and also had 5 QB hurries. Nate Green had 6 tackles and 1 hurry as well. Overall the Chupacabra defense hurried the quarterback 7 times while the Stalkers got zero hurries on Rouse.
On the season, Barcelona is outscoring teams 201-10 and look to be far and away the favorites to take home the title. Any team that wants to stay with them will have to find a way to slow down the passing attack while also stopping the best rushing attack in the league and penetrate a line that has yet to allow a hurry, let alone a sack on the season. Oh and on top of that find a way to score on a defense allowing 5 points a game. Coach Cowboys said of the win, "We told the fans to expect a show and they got one. It's going to be like this at home all year. That was a team that many experts said we close to us on paper. Didn't look very close to me on the field. And we even planned on doing A LOT more passing but the game was out of hand so quickly and we don't believe in running up the score. This is a real fun team to be a part of."
Looking at some of the team leaders early on in the season:
Rouse - 38/50, 76% completion, 424 yards, 8 TD, 0 INT, 140.3 QB rating
Spears - 53 rushes, 543 yards, 271 yards per game, 10.2 yards per carry, 9 TD, 4 catches for 57 yards
You know the MVP race will likely come down to those two players. Right now Spears has the obvious lead but you know Rouse can climb back in any game. However, with the Chupacabras dominating early on, and the team philosophy of not running up the score, Rouse may never stand a chance. But he and the rest of the team wouldn't have it any other way.
Next game is November 16th at 10:00 AM. This one will be a great test for the Chupacabras who enter the game as the favorites on the road in the Athens' Colliseum of the Gods. Barcelona Chupacabras (2-0) at Athens gods (2-0)
