Sorry if you are watching PSU, but it's mine now! This made Canada BBB #3 a lot of fun last year, so hope the trend continues.
Ok, I went purely based on scores for this one. Since many of us are new, I don’t know how the teams rate up much, and I didn’t factor in the preseason since rosters and AI were still be set and tested. Not a lot of exciting games this week, with many blowouts going on. Hopefully, things get a bit more competitive as we move forward. I WILL take into account actual matchups and competitiveness of games, as well as how teams adjust, as we move forward and the cream rises to the top, so it wont be based solely on record or scores, but my opinions on a team's success and actual ability.
1. Nova Scotia Snakes (1-0) – Nova Scotia snapped up a gutted Listowel Huskies team 255-0. Topping the initial charts, it is somewhat of a hollow victory. The Snakes are heavily favored in the conference, but it remains to be seen how they will fare against some real competition.
2. Yellowknife Rented Mules (1-0) – Yellowknife pounded the Shasta McNasties 199-0. Another highly favored team, Yellowknife is expected to be in contention for the Easter Conference title with the current #1 Nova Scotia Snakes. Like many of the other highly ranked teams, it remains to be seen how they will perform against some tougher competition in the days ahead.
3. Memphis Maulers (1-0) – In another blowout, the Memphis Maulers crushed the Sackville Waterfowl 153-0. Currently standing atop the West, Memphis looks like a potential powerhouse to rival the strong teams in the East, but with the Rented Mules and the Snakes the heavy favorites to take the title, it looks like an uphill battle for the Maulers.
4. Thunder Bay Sabertooths (1-0) – The Sabertooths crushed an underpowered Philadelphia Legends team 117-14. The defense was stifling, holding the Legends to negative rushing yards and the opposing QB’s to a pitiful 25% completion percentage. Tay Wilkes was an animal, recording 611 yards from scrimmage on 45 touches, tacking on 10 total touchdowns. He should be a force for the Sabertooths moving forward.
5. Toronto Punishers (1-0) – Toronto crushed the British Columbia Fighting Bettas 97-24. Registering 840 total yards, Toronto was firing on all cylinders. The rushing game carried the day for the Punishers, registering 544 yards at an astounding 11.3 YPC. Sexy Jesus was walking all over the pancaked competition, toting the rock 28 times for 316 yards and 9 touchdowns. Teammate Roger Robinson added another 224 yards and 2 touchdowns on 19 carries. Toronto has some holes spread about their team, and it remains to be seen if the players can step up against fierce competition in the weeks ahead.
6. Grise Fjord ^^^Kodiaks^^^ (1-0) – The awkwardly named Kodiaks pounded the Kitchner Krushers 94-10. Bark Mulger performed better than his NFL namesake usually does, registering 376 yards and 9 touchdowns on 27 completions. The Kodiak defense held the Krushers to negative rushing yards and a pedestrian 50% completion rating through the air. A few more performances like this one and the Kodiaks could find themselves atop the Western Conference.
7. Gaffney Indians (1-0) – The Gaffney Indians showed themselves to be possible contenders in the deep Western Conference with a blowout 80-0 win over the Toronto Storm. Three rushers topped the century mark for Gaffney, headed by Tony Raper’s pillaging of the Storm defense for 308 yards and 5 touchdowns. On defense, Javon Harvey made the most of limited reps, recording 3 sacks and adding on 2 hurries. It will be interesting to see how the Indians contend with the powerful West.
8. Saskatchewan Limas (1-0) – The Limas trounced a well run Blackrock Reapers team 77-21 yesterday. Though they had a sizeable advantage over their smaller competitors, the Limas put up some great numbers regardless. Saskatchewan was pass happy, with Bruce Lee-Roy and heze mudd combining for 497 yards and 5 touchdowns on 36 attempts. Though they won handily, the Limas are going to need to prove they can stop the run after allowing 161 yards to Blackrock’s starting back Moses Madu if they want to compete in what looks to be a tough Western Division this year.
9. Lethbridge Fighters (1-0) – In a rematch of the Canada BBB#3 championship, Lethbridge’s offseason upgrades paid off, carrying the fighters to a 77-24 victory over the Sackville Blitz. Jack Skellington continued his pass happy ways, throwing for 387 yards and 4 touchdowns. The three headed rushing attack of the fighters added another 313 yards and 6 touchdowns, led by new acquisition Joe Razewulf’s 11.4 YPC. The Fighter defense was stifling, tallying 3 sacks, 2 picks, and a forced fumble.
10. Algoma Arena Rockers (1-0) – Algoma embarrassed the Sacramento Terror 52-7. While not known for their sports teams in Sacramento, it looked to be an even match for the Arena Rockers. Pretty Boy Dancesalot’s 353 yards and 5 touchdowns proved that wasn’t the case. One concern for the Arena Rockers was Dancesalot’s 55% completion percentage. Against a stronger team, that might not be enough to prevail. The defense showed that they can force a turnover, taking the ball away 5 times. Bringing up the rear on the Power 10 is no small feat, and with a few more crushing victories, the Arena Rockers could move up quickly.
On the bubble: B.K. Thunderbirds (1-0), Laval Lumberjacks (1-0), Trade West Battletoads (1-0), Hamilton Lightning (1-0), Westlake Rams (1-0), S.W.O. Swamp Donkeys (1-0)
West Game of the Week: Thunder Bay Sabertooths (1-0) vs. Grise Fjord ^^^Kodiaks^^^ (1-0)
East Game of the Week: Hamilton Lightning (1-0) vs. S.W.O. Swamp Donkeys (1-0)
We have two games featuring four of the Top 10 this week; with the Sabertooths versus the Kodiaks, and the Fighters facing off against the Indians. Hopefully this list starts taking shape quickly.
