Game Recap

Coach Gazeruth said it best in his post-game conference: “We went into Fareham to represent what Bath is all about and start paving the way to a Championship. In doing that, we were also able to represent the Zeta Conference as a whole.” Bath headed into Fareham with high expectations for Season 6, and the results seen in the game only built on those expectations.

The Killer Bees stung on their first drive of the game with a 1.5 yard pass to Chocolate Undies from the highly touted free agent and new addition to this Bath squad, 6’3 quarterback Karl Sabin. This is Sabin’s first season on a real team, having spent the first 4 seasons of his career on a slow-build team. The drive was an efficient 6 plays and took just 3:19 off clock.

Fareham answered with a 55-yard FG from Jerome Williams, one of his two 50+ yarders in the game (12-28 in his career). Bath regrouped and finished off a long, effective drive with a 5.5 yard TD run by Speedee McGee, coming off his first career 2,000+ yard season. They only saw one 3rd down on the 80-yard drive.

The “Killer Bee D” stepped up to end the 1st quarter, giving the ball back to their offense to start the 2nd quarter. Karl Sabin made quick work of the Demon defense with a 52-yard TD run. The run was (unofficially) the longest run by a QB in Western Europe AA#3 history. The Killer Bees tacked on 2 FG’s and TD on Undies’ 2nd TD reception of the day, this time from Guns McCoy (50 passing TDs last season).

Fareham was only able to manage another FG, making the score 34-6 at the half. As Bath was running off the field before the half, we were able to get a couple words in with Zoblefu, their defensive coordinator. He said that he was very happy with how his defense responded to the new defensive schemes implemented during the offseason, and that anytime the opposition fails to get into your redzone you’re “doing something right.”

Bath came back in the 2nd half continuing to fire away, with McCoy connecting on his 2nd TD pass of the day, this time a 56-yarder to Malakar Nightblade on their first possession. The defense continued to stand tall, and Brock Leetman added a 19.5 yard TD run to cap off a 14-0 3rd quarter.

The Bath defense got relaxed in the 4th quarter, allowing 17 points with both TDs coming through the air. The offense was able to keep pace, however, scoring 3 TDs of their own in the same span.

Overall, the Bath coaching staff was happy with what they saw on Tuesday morning. “One down, eighteen to go,” said Head Coach Gazeruth as he addressed his team after the game. “Time to focus on Manchester.”

Player of the Game

Brock Leetman ripped off over 1/6 of his rushing total from last season with 204 yards on 20 carries, tallying 3 TDs. Karl Sabin also had a big day in his first game in a Bee uniform, throwing for 77 yards and TD to go along with 93 yards on the ground and another score.

Quote of the Game

“I don’t know. I guess I was just hungry.”
- Silent Shadow, OT, when asked how he managed to get 21 pancakes in 58 plays.

Stat of the Game

694.5 – Yard of Total Offense for the Killer Bees

What’s next for Bath?

The Killer Bees head to Manchester to face the depleted Mustangs, who suffered 255-0 beatdown in their Season 6 debut.
