#5 Bangkok Blue Demons vs. #1 The Elephant Riders:

Regular season matchup – Week 10
The Elephant Riders used a stifling defense and a precision passing game led by QB Lestat de Lioncourt to hold the usually potent Blue Demons to 1.6 yards a rush and mediocre gains through the air. After 60 minutes of frustration, final score was Elephant Riders 42, Blue Demons 17.

Bangkok will have to do better than that this time around if they hope to upset the conference champs. They have the tools, and reason to hope as they were able to keep pace the first half of the match, having only trailed 14-10. If they can keep that energy sustained and get a few lucky bounces, they are every bit as capable as E.R. of winning this game. Keep an eye on HB Blue LaNuke, with better help on the frontline, and good lead blocks in the secondary, he is capable of breaking out for some big plays and scores.

The Elephant Riders 16-1

1st round playoff game

Despite the fourth quarter heroics of Pretenders HB Cleetus Johnson, the Elephants Riders trampled rushes on or before the line of scrimmage play after play all game long. The Prenteders' passing game fared a little better, but it wasn't nearly enough. What looks to be an unstoppable ER Air Game dominated the day with nearly 450 yards. TE Black Dwarf shined as a possession receiver while performing well as a blocker and WR Franky Foster had a handful of big plays including 2 touchdown catches. End result was a highscoring game of 48-28.

-----------

Bangkok Blue Demons 13-4

1st round playoff game

Playoff games away from home are always an ordeal, but the Blue Demons were steady and kept pace by scoring a touchdown in every quarter of the game. Combined with a more ferocious than usual defense, and they were able to down an elite contender for the league in Sault Ste. Marie Metalheads.

Both teams had balanced attacks on offense, but the real difference was heavy defensive pressure from Bangkok. Limiting the Metalheads to 200 total yards is no small feat. The hard work paid off though, as the Blue Demons cruised to a 28-10 victory.

------------

Prediction:

This will be an explosive match. HB Blue LaNuke and his pals on the O-line have a lot to prove if they don't want a repeat of the regular season. Bangkok's defense will also be sorely tested trying to contain QB Lestat de Lioncourt, as even the smallest of mistakes could cost them big. HB Nick Fallon is no small threat either, so it will be hard to devote too much additional help against the passing game.

My guess is that the Blue Demons find enough in the tank to keep it close for almost 4 quarters before failing in the last 2 minutes on a unstoppable de Lioncourt drive up the field. ELEPHANT RIDERS by 7

#3 Cambodia Mountain Men vs. #2 Mongolian Horde:

Regular season matchup – Week 10

In an offensive roller coaster of a match, the Horde made the most of their redzone opportunities, scoring 49 points against Cambodia's 28.

The Horde tried a balanced approach, but found moved the chains much faster through the air, going for nearly 400 yards and star QB Taz Dingo passing for 3 touchdowns. The ground game, led by standout HB Stevie McRun did it's part as well, eating up the clock and punching it in for 4 scores of their own.

Cambodia saw early success with their running game but were forced early into more passes by falling behind 21-7 at the half. Despite completing nearly 2 out of every three passes for over 300 yards, it wasn't enough to keep pace with galloping Horde.

Mongolian Horde 15-2

1st round playoff game

Despite the individual brilliance of Salford's QB John Stevens and WR JJ Anderson, the Storm didn't have nearly enough power to have the Horde running for cover. Salford was able to put 366 yards on the board, but their rushing game was rendered nonexistent, and the Horde put the clamps down whenever they threatened to score - although stud kicker Brent Lewis did manage to nail a field goal from 58 yards out!

Star QB Taz Dingo put on an impressive display of vision and accuracy finding 5 different receivers for touchdowns on the way to 290 yards of passing on the day. HB Stevie McRun made the most out of limited action breaking 11 yards a carry and finding the endzone once for a final score of 42-10.

-----------

Cambodia Mountain Men 15-2

1st round playoff game
The Mountain Men looked nearly unbeatable as they used their mammoth front line to beat the Hookers into submission. 76% of their plays were runs, and who can blame them as they controlled the clock, wore down, the defense and went for over 400 rushing yards and 5 scores against an exhausted Hooker defense. The passing game looked effective enough, although QB Ian Vucinich did throw one interception in limited action.

The Hookers offense had a horrible day, with QB Chaz Winstongberger III getting sacked 5 times, and the running game getting squashed for 43 total yards, the Mountain Men proved impassible and stopped Ho Chi Minh dead in their tracks. Final result 41-3

------------

Prediction:

Either one of these teams is capable of going all the way, but they both face extremely tough challenges from here on out. Luck will be a big factor as will turnovers. A timely pick or fumble could decide this game. A strong Horde defense will force Ian Vucinich to air it out occasionally, and could spell disaster if he isn't careful. I see Cambodia taking an early lead, but making one turnover too many to hold off the Horde from winning. HORDE by 6

excellent read as always, fool

Cambodia has been looking forward to this rematch against the Horde, who gave us our biggest defeat of the season. It should be a very good game and the Mountain Men might have to play perfect football to win it.

The History of this heated rivalry:
Season 1: The Elephant Riders 26, Bangkok Blue Balls 0
Season 2: Bangkok 7, ER 3
Season 3: ER 18, BBD 10
Season 4: BBD 34, ER 17
Season 5: ER 42, BBD 17
Season 5 playoffs: ???

The pattern here is so easy to see that I bet even Lump could tell us who is going to win this one.

Good Luck Riders

Funny, I have about probably 50 boxes of Gevalia in my pantry, and I'm pretty sure there's some hazelnut in there. I might have to do the same.

You order the coffee with the coffeemaker because it sounds like a great idea, and then they keep sending you four more boxes of coffee every month. But I never get up early enough to make coffee before I go to work, so I just stop and get some at Speedway. And still every month another four boxes come in. In a good month, I drink like half a box of coffee ... so that's a plus-3.5 boxes every month for the last couple of years.

I keep meaning to cancel it -- and if I don't do it soon, I might not have room left in the pantry.

The pattern held true. Turnovers can really suck. The Riders outclassed us in almost every aspect of the game. We just got a couple lucky bounces. Great game Riders. We definitely stole one from you guys there.
