I've always been curious when it comes to USA A6 team names. We've got some of the most diverse nominal sets I've seen in the game, ranging from the normal (San Diego Demolition, New England Red Celtics) to the animal-oriented (Lizard Lick Lizard Lickers, Big Bear Avalanche) to the downright bizarre (Tana River Ewoks, PTT Villagers, Huskers Illustrated Bugeaters).

The Viridian Vanguards stem from an online game called Cybernations. Our original core players were all from the same alliance, the Viridian Entente, although we've expanded beyond that over several seasons to include better builds and other friends. The Vanguards part originates as a classy alliterative nominal to go with the adjective, as well as being an elite military branch of the Entente.

That's what's in our name. What's in yours?

I thought you were a member of Viridia now?

Tennessee Fury comes from a NFL sportstalk board all of our original members came from. The core group of the initial board was Titans fans, so "Tennessee" fit. We toyed with the name Dixie Fury (after the username of the founder of our board), but decided to stick with something a little less...inflamatory (potentially).

PS - Feel free to join us at www.nflfury.com/sportsboards. Its still mostly Titans fans, but the more the merrier.

How'd you edit your post without it showing it was edited? I really need to read stuff more closely.

The Guadalajara Gladiators thought it would be funny to have a name from Mexico in the USA league.

The Bearphin is derived from a high school project our QB and I did while seniors in high school. We had to make up a totally new animal and design all functions and features of it. We named it after our favorite football teams, the Bears and the Dolphins.

The Lake Placid Predators, formerly known as the Spokane Dream, got it's name from the logo. When we were the Dream, the claw shredding through the background was to represent a nightmare, ala Freddy Kreuger. When I took control of the team we changed the name for a fresh start. We liked the logo, so we came up with a new name for it. Predators was the favorite suggestion and Lake Placid was a unique city name.

Our team is named the Tana River Ewoks because Tyante is actually an Ewok from Tana River.

Idaho Rex? Well, I live in North Idaho and my daughter is obsessed with dinosaurs so when I created a team I asked her what I should name it.... Yep, the Idaho Rex. We play more like the Train Wrecks

That may be true, I can see Russia from my bathroom window.

When I decided to buy a team, I'm usually really bad at picking out names. I thought it would be good to find a name of a team people would hate to lose to. I thought it would be funny to have some kind of mascot that is not so imposing. One of my good friends always liked Ewoks, so I decided to go with it. Looking into Ewoks more to figure out where to be from, I found out the name of the Ednor to the Ewoks is called Tana. There is a Tana River up in Alaska. I thought it just fit nice together and the Tana River Ewoks were born.

As for the Huskers Illustarted Bugeaters, it was created from a bunch of guys off the Huskers Illustrated forums. There were already teams named Huskers and Blackshirts. Bugeaters was a nickname for Nebraska pre 1900's. The name was adopted by Canes.
