After a short hiatus, the APR returns ... sorry for the lack of your every-other-day fodder, things were a bit hectic at yours truly’s home the last week or so. I won’t bore any of you with the details other than to say that a teething 10-month-old & a temporary live-in mother-in-law are NOT fun, and leave little in the way of free time.
1. Newcastle - consensus #1 as they should be, and have a very realistic shot at running the table. Can put it on cruise control for a while.
2. Rome - W6 game with Newcastle lived up to the hype, for a half, but Newcastle jumped on them early in the 3rd quarter & never looked back.
3. Danzig - will continue to be ranked highly on merits of smallest margin of defeat to the #1 plus a hard fought win W6. Matchup with WYW W10 may determine whether they’re a host W1 of the playoffs.
4. WYW - dispatched a resurgent Plainview team handily, but tough games against Brussels, Danzig & Rome loom.
5. Donegal - earn the biggest bump primarily because of their record, but the possibility for demotion remains since they really haven’t played anybody other than Newcastle, to whom they lost.
(tie) 6. Plainview - tough to wrap my head around this team. They get a huge win W3, then look totally uninspired three of the next four weeks. Although they’re tied with Brussels, I’m listing them first on the basis of their win against them. That counts for something ... somewhere.
(tie) 6. Brussels - have to be a little disappointed with their season thus far, I suspect. Losses to Plainview and Danzig, plus an unimpressive win against the Car Bombs, have the folks in Raider Nation scratching their heads. Wins the next two games could put them right back into contender status.
8. AFD - despite a much-improved defense, an inability to get anything going on the ground cost them dearly against Newcastle. Similarly to last year, games with Donegal and Plainview will be huge.
9. Portugal - could put themselves into Playoff contention with a win tonight, but have been pretty unremarkable against the better teams and getting taken to OT by Mokum is unacceptable.
10. Irish - another disappointment, as the talent’s there. Could all of the problems be blamed on simply the handful of CPUs on the roster?
11. Mokum - could (& probably will) improve on last season but questions abound as to how much longer this team exists.
12. Atom - nifty logo. Planning for S6 & beyond.
13. Cologne - ditto to comments for Mokum.
14. Rotterdam - can you call it a ‘showdown’ if their W10 game w/ Trondheim will determine who the second-worst team is?
15. Trondheim - obviously still continuing to work the FA wire & can hang their hat on keeping a team under 50 a couple games ago.
16. Dublin - WYW put up 240 against Trondheim. More than likely they’ll score 300+ against this group of Sallys.
