Alright, here they are, at last. Thank you for your patience...the first one especially is very hard to do and I'm sure will be WAY off since I am still unfamiliar with most of the newly named teams. They should improve greatly after tonight's games, and continue to get better over the course of the season.
These rankings were based partially off each teams overall number, partly off their record, and partly off my human judgment as to how good a team really was.
But enough talk, here are the rankings:
Team/Record
The Top Ten
1) Saskatchewan Sasquatches: 3-0
This team dominated the #1 spot last season, going undefeated during the regular season. When postseason came, they pulled a Tony Romo and fumbled away the game. Now trying to terrorize Canada A6 West for another season, the Sasquatches are off to a perfect start. Their average level offensive starter is low for a top team: only 26.2, but their average level defensive starter is 2'nd in the league: 28.5! Expect this team to start 5-0 before they seek revenge against the hated Beavers.
2) Cheyenne Mountain Air Force: 3-0
One of the most improved teams over the off-season, which is scary considering how good they already were. Cheyenne has the 2'nd highest average starting player in the East and has looked very dangerous early in the season. Their passing game looks particularly dangerous with lvl 31 QB hooking up with lvl 33 WR Benjamin Franklin and lvl 31 WR Scotty Thunder...and that's scary because I didn't even mention their speedy #3, Champagne Room who consistently torched teams last season.
3) Vinland Vikings: 3-0
They have the highest average starter, coming in at 28.85/player. The key for this season will probably be their defense again, as they gave up too many points in too many games. It's a new season, but can this team live up to its talent? So far, so good, and they've yet to score less than 66 points in a game.
4) Cold Lake Wolverines: 3-0
After starting out 6-0 last season, this team was sold and lost many good players. A new owner came in and brought immediate improvement, and has rebuilt the team piece by piece. Now they are a serious contender for the West's crown, proving their mettle against the Icemen before they disbanded and against the Revolution. Their next three games will be good measuring sticks, with games against the Beavers(#9), Vikings(#3), and Thunder(#12) coming up.
5) St. John's Salty Dogs: 3-0
St. John's is back and looking to continue it's regular season winning streak. After a rough early start last season, they've already passed one huge hurdle, beating the Black Cats in week two. They have a couple more cupcakes before going up against early East favorite Cheyenne, which may end up being a fight for 1'st place when it happens. They're slightly lower leveled than the teams above them, averaging 26.5 per starter, but their game planning usually makes up for the lvl difference.
6) Nebraska Husker Maniacs: 3-0
Illig always likes his team to be ranked a little bit lower...my guess is he likes the extra motivation. On paper, they are the best team in the East, edging out Cheyenne by 0.05 lvls per starter. Look for the game against QC to be their first real measuring stick...but it won't be for four more weeks.
7) Queen City Black Cats: 2-1
After two straight Eastern Conference Championship losses, this team is back with a vengeance. A new strategy to boost late in the season aims at winning the games in the playoffs, even though they might suffer a few more losses in the regular season. They only average 25.25 per starter right now, which is the lowest of the teams mentioned in the rankings so far.
8) Halifax Hashishim: 3-0
One look at the matchup screen for this team will not tell you the whole story. They have a 42 overall ranking, but their average level is still just over 25. I don't think this team will be one of the top 3 in the East this season, but they'll easily make the playoffs.
9) Saskatchewan Beavers: 2-1
Perhaps this season they'll put their streaky ways to an end. So far they're off to a good start, but they were unlucky enough to run into a Icemen team just before they disbanded. The next three games are brutal: #4 Cold Lake, #12 Thunder, and #1 Sasquatches. If they can win two out of the next three, they could get really good position for the playoffs in the competitive western conference.
10) Revelstoke Revolution: 1-2
I'm a bit apprehensive to put them up this high, as I also started them off last year fairly high. They let me down last year, ending the season ranked #18. I'm counting on them to play a lot better this season, and with an average starter at 25.6 they have the talent to do so.
Middle of the Pack
11) Hillsburgh Hillbillies: 2-1
I'm sure this team will move up into the top ten, as their next five games are all against teams they should beat easily. They had a nice victory over Revelstoke in week one, but couldn't slow down a potent Vikings offense in week two, giving up 66 points. They're competitive on paper, averaging 25.35 per starter.
12) Calgary Thunder: 3-0
They've played three easy teams or I would have them ranked higher. To their credit, though, they have dominated each game, giving up a total of 17 points while scoring 240. They only average 24.4 per starter in a very competitive West, and that will be tough to overcome against the top teams.
13) Flint Tropics: 3-0
A bit of a surprise to see this team 3-0 after last season. They've made some nice improvements and had a big win over the Lone Star Cabelleros last week. Can they continue their success tonight against the Big Prawns? Either way, expect them to lose in two weeks to the Black Cats. They have a legit shot at making the playoffs this season in a top heavy Eastern Conference.
14) The Lone Star Caballeros: 1-2
This team has to be disappointed with their early season play. Despite averaging 26.2 per starter, they've been soundly beaten by the only two good teams they've played. Beating up on Quebec in week one doesn't really impress anyone, even if it looked good on the stat books.
15) In San Jose Pimpin Aint Easy: 1-2
This team consistently improved over the course of last season, but with few offseason upgrades, they might have a tough year ahead of them. They only average 22.15 per starter, more than 6 levels lower than the top team in the west. They've got another tough game tonight against the Hillbillies.
16) The Free Roaming Flaming Stallions: 3-0
I would say that I'm surprised of their 3-0 start because they only average 21.0 per starter, but a quick look at their schedule reveals the true reason. Just like Destruction Bay last season, look for this team to start racking up some losses when they play the real teams in the East...starting tonight against St. John's.
17) Saskatoon Shredders: 2-1
A tough one point loss in their last game could really hurt come playoff time. Their defense played well enough to win, but they have to score more than 6 points per game.
18) New Orleans Ghost Riders: 1-2
Another team I expect to struggle in the very tough Western Conference, this team only average 22.45 per starter...not near enough talent to compete with the top teams. With Manitoba disbanding, though, they might be able to compete for a playoff spot...although they'd be one and done unless they make lots of improvements.
19) Toronto Smoke: 1-2
Give this team credit for getting a lot better talent wise over the offseason. Their problem now is they have a very low chemistry, and that hurts them against teams better than or equal to them. They can compete for the 8'th seed in the playoffs though, with an average starting level of 21.85.
20) Ballina Big Prawns: 1-2
Not sure exactly where Ballina is, but it doesn't strike fear in my heart, and neither does this team. They average 21.25 per starter, which might be good enough to get them into the playoffs in the East, but don't expect them to make much noise this season.
Good terrible teams
21) Portsmouth Cavaliers: 0-3
Last season, this team and Flint were almost mirror images of each other. I guess Flint got tired of seeing the ugliness and got better, while the Cavaliers kept their eyes shut and thought they were fine. They've allowed over 250 points in just three games...ouch.
22) Barkmere Bulldawgs: 1-2
They're better than last season, but they still haven't beaten anyone they didn't last season either. A win over Petersborough is like the any NFL team playing against Duke football...you know you've got an easy victory.
23) Calgary Wrestlers: 0-3
Last season this was a very scrappy team, winning some games they should have lost. This season, they just lose them.
24) Manitoba Icemen: 2-1
I would have this team ranked much higher if they didn't decide to disband. Sad thing is, even at this point they could still beat a handful of teams in A6.
25) Jeanland Jeaniacs: 0-3
They have some very talented players, but they have too many talent-less players as well.
Bad Terrible Teams
26) Ottawa Black Wolves: 0-3
Give the west another cellar dweller. They'll compete with Castlegar to get relegated to BBB, but they'll even lose that battle.
27) Kelowna Outlaws: 0-3
This team has way too many CPU's to be competitive.
28) Quebec Boreal: 0-3
No matter how bad this team is, I still don't miss the Crimeboy's mouths...now if only they'd stop coming back here.
29) The Hundredth Meridians Road Apples: 1-2
They are one of two teams that gets two lines in the rankings column: http://goallineblitz.com/game/league.pl?league_id=112. That's probably the most interesting thing about them yet.
Terrible Terrible Teams
30) Peterborough Preachers: 0-3
They have their sights set on longest losing streak...the big game is two weeks away against Bloodweiser. If they lose that one too, they might just have a chance.
31) Bloodweiser Bugle All Stars: 0-3
At least they have some nice $$$ in the bank...too bad they don't use it to improve their team.
32) Castlegar Crusaders: 0-3
I can't say anything good about this team.
These rankings were based partially off each teams overall number, partly off their record, and partly off my human judgment as to how good a team really was.
