Forum > Position Talk > O Line Club > Is agility more important than blocking for Left Offensive Tackles?

I wonder how blocking works for offensive linemen. My presumption is that blocking allows offensive linemen to stick the rusher once he is within grasp. However, defensive ends do one of two things: they have a ton of spd/agi to run around and away from your grasp, or they have a ton of str to bull rush you out of the way before you can clasp on.

Given that, after you softcap1 blocking why should you spend any SPs or equipment on it? As a LOT, one would be better served to put equipment and SP into agility and strength evenly (so as to be ready for both types of matchups). Thoughts?

i quite dont agree. blocking to me is that the more you have the better you can attain that 'grasp' and longer you will hold him. i've read somewhere that mostly if the guy you go up against has 20 strength below/above you, you'll see a difference.. (being pushed around or getting a pancake.) but i would soft cap agility and keep your strength within 10 of blocking or higher if you would like.

the better blocker you are, the better you can keep up with DE's..

blocking (from what ive been told) improves your pass blocking angle and helps you engage (and hence occupy) the DE

hmm ... now i wonder, is agility more than strength? i mean you can make up for a stronger defensive end by staying back and using blocking/agility right?

usually speed DE's have low 60's in strength in the 20's. so if you have 60 something strength by mid 20's, you're alright. i would recommend have speed in the mid-to-high 30's and softcap + more for agility.

What kind of speed DE's have you been looking at?

No. DE's range in build. Some of the most effective have 75+ speed and 60 agility. There are others with 80 strength and 50 agility and speed. Some have really high agility.

... in the 20's?

So no stamina, no vision, no confidence, no tackling and no SAs at all?

the ones that were used to be open in my league had them all in the low-low 20's, except stamina and vision. i dont know about SA's cause all of them were different, but i remember one of them had 6 in shed block w/ equip.

edit: they were all in the 28-thirty-something level range.
