So, here’s my shot at helping out the legendary fool with picks. I am going to try and follow his lead but put a little of my own creativity into things. The lines that you see are from the matchup page. Yeah, I know, not very accurate but something to include anyways. Feel free to mock my picks or throw me props. I have a thick skin.

Game of the Week
Each week I will pick one game to go a bit more in depth with then the others, evaluating how the team’s stack up and where they are heading or coming from. And actually pick a score. So, for Week 1 Game of the Week:

Padang Lightning (even) at Krungthep Garudas
Both of these teams may have home playoff games when all is said and done. An early tell on whose the power behind the Addiction. The key matchup is the Garudas defense against the Lightning offense. Each of these units has the chance to lead the league in yardage, or least yardage allowed in the case of Garudas. I see a close game into the fourth quarter and then the Garudas defense steps up with that one big turnover to seal the game: Garudas 28 Lightning 24.

Other games
A quick rundown of who I think will come out on top of the rest of the games:

Mount Fiji Dogs at Cambodia Mountain Men (+9)
The Mountain Men are talking the talk, but can they walk the walk. I doubt this one will tell us much because right now it’s nothing more than a stroll up Mount Fiji. Mountain Men by 42.

Algeria Addiction (+6) at AFEF Hooligans
The new guy in AFEF drew the short straw and gets the prohibitive favorite of Alpha conference as their first opponent. The Addiction offense could get healthy quickly in this one. Addiction by 35.

Hiroshima Radiation (+12) at Pingree Grove Pits
The new guy in Pingree must have drawn the long straw. Can you say “Grove Pits” in 1st place? Don’t get used to it. Grove Pits by 30.

Columbus Black Knights (even) at Phuket Water Dragons
Mark this down: This could be the game that keeps one of these teams out of the playoffs. Water Dragons by 10

Mongolian Horde (+6) at Manila Cyberballers
The Horde may get 500 yards rushing in this one. Or I suppose they could pass for 500 yards if they so choose. It’s ugly either way. Horde by 35.

Tibet Psychonauts at Ho Chi Minh Hookers (+3)
The new guys will have Hooker heel marks all over them by the time Ho Chi get down with them. Hookers by 24.

Upset Special
Each week I will choose to stick my neck out on the line and pick an upset. It’s an upset pick, so if you are using my picks to place your bets in Vegas, this isn’t the one to choose unless you are a big gambler. But I will try to pick one game each week that I think has the most potential for an upset. So for Week 1 Upset Special:

Salford Storm (+3) at Pontianak Firebirds
Salford owner is always crying about the slow start of their team. They do it again and leg an egg on opening day. Firebirds by 3.

So you want us to pick on a guy with a Dermal disorder? That's not right!

Good stuff and good luck. I'll be keeping track of your picking record

Im thinking 24, but 35 works for me
and I was thinking about getting 300 of each. 500 is not enough. wink

Tibet just hopes to beat the spread. They are hookers after all. But a happy ending would be nice as well.

Good read!

I hope you are right about the Water Dragons vs. Black Knights. We beat them in season 3 and they beat us in season 4 and both teams are evenly matched. It will come down to special teams, in my opinion.

So how did the rookie prognosticator do?

Game of the Week

Padang Lightning (even) at Krungthep Garudas
Both of these teams may have home playoff games when all is said and done. An early tell on whose the power behind the Addiction. The key matchup is the Garudas defense against the Lightning offense. Each of these units has the chance to lead the league in yardage, or least yardage allowed in the case of Garudas. Krungthep 47-7. Not as close as I thought it would be. That Garudas defense is nasty.

Other games

Mount Fiji Dogs at Cambodia Mountain Men (+9)
The Mountain Men are talking the talk, but can they walk the walk. I doubt this one will tell us much because right now it’s nothing more than a stroll up Mount Fiji. Mountain Men by 42.

Cambodia 80-0, seriously how do you set an 80 point line?

Algeria Addiction (+6) at AFEF Hooligans
The new guy in AFEF drew the short straw and gets the prohibitive favorite of Alpha conference as their first opponent. The Addiction offense could get healthy quickly in this one. Addiction by 35.

Algeria 105-7, Offensive woes?

Hiroshima Radiation (+12) at Pingree Grove Pits
The new guy in Pingree must have drawn the long straw. Can you say “Grove Pits” in 1st place? Don’t get used to it. Grove Pits by 30.

Pingree 125-0, someone may score 300 on the Radiation this season.

Columbus Black Knights (even) at Phuket Water Dragons
Mark this down: This could be the game that keeps one of these teams out of the playoffs. Water Dragons by 10

Columbus 60-35, any defense around here?

Mongolian Horde (+6) at Manila Cyberballers
The Horde may get 500 yards rushing in this one. Or I suppose they could pass for 500 yards if they so choose. It’s ugly either way. Horde by 35.

Mongolian 47-13. 499.5 total yard for the Horde.

Tibet Psychonauts at Ho Chi Minh Hookers (+3)
The new guys will have Hooker heel marks all over them by the time Ho Chi get down with them. Hookers by 24.

Ho Chi Minh 65-34. Tibet was scrappy anyways.

Upset Special

Salford Storm (+3) at Pontianak Firebirds
Salford owner is always crying about the slow start of their team. They do it again and leg an egg on opening day. Firebirds by 3.

Salford 34-12. No slow start this season.

Well, a mediocre 6-2 in my first shot. Will try to do better next time.

Padang 47-7. Me underestimated the Lighning. Or perhaps over estimated teh Garudas defense. Nothing like it stacked to be. Watch out for Padang.

krungthep won this game not padang

so i guess you would be 6-2 instead of 5-3 so thats even better

Padang got screwed by team overall chemistry. thats what happpens when u rebuild. that and somehow our %'s were screwed i had it set for 65run 35 pass and it went 55 pass 45 run. i'm not complaining about krungthep they whooped us i just dont think it should have been a blowout like it was

You got to start somewhere jmarter...I have done this tooo....and the first few games will take for you to get a feel of the teams....if you continue to go 5-3, then you have a problem...

I would imagine after game 3, you will go 8-0, 7-1, or at worst, 6-2 each week.

Wow, it was early and I obviously can't read. Don't feel near as bad about my picks now.

I didn't expect a blowout either. Chemistry can play a huge role in a team's performance. I'm sure if we meet in the postseason, it will be a much different story. You guys have a good team with a lot of weapons, and I only see you getting better.

Also, I think the AI automatically starts to emphasize pass plays when you fall behind by more than 2-3 scores. Not 100% sure about this, but I've seen a lot of anecdotal evidence that supports it.

this will only happen if you have it set that way or have it set to auto adjust as far as i am aware
