Here’s my take on the rankings, suspensefully going from last to first. Just want to say that wow, the good teams are all really good on paper, but the bad teams are some of the worst teams I’ve ever seen. Theres gonna be a whole lot of blowouts this year. But lets not let that distract from some good competition that will go on at the top. Now, on to the preseason rankings.
16. Great Lakes Rum Runners – Apparently the rum runners are choosing to slow build their team now after a mediocre season. Whatever. Enjoy last.
15. Gowboys Grizzlies – Only 15th because they’ll probably beat great lakes, but nobody else. The bad are going to be abysmal this year.
14. Windsor Warhammers – Slightly better than level 1’s, but that’s not sayin too much… especially being ranked below St. Catherine’s.
13. St. Catharines Stompers – St. Catherine’s does little to improve and moves up 3 spots. They might have a chance at a few wins this year.
12. Manitoba Manatees – I would have ranked the sea cows higher, but they don’t have any WRs on their team. Or a starting LG. Or that many active agents. They’ll be pretty bad.
11. Quebec Eagles – At least this team is a fully fielded team that is respectable, which doesn’t say too much about them. They’ll try their best to make a top 10 push in my rankings this year.
10. Port Dover Panthers – Underachieved last year. So they bring in a few ulta-high levels, which probably won’t do much good without help around them.
9. Alberta Avengers – The team looks respectable by just glancing at levels, but they underperformed last year as well, and they’re over a mill in the hole, with the same stadium to show for it. Talent might win them a few games, but not if all the players leave.
8. Halifax Hitmen - Offense looks decent, defense looks atrocious. CPU took over from when I last looked at their roster like 5 hours ago. Still, the situation isn’t as bad as other teams because they’ve been in AA, so their stadium is farther along. A little work from a new owner and they could have playoff chances, since there are very few competitive teams in the league this year.
7. Mystery Alaskans – Isn’t it pathethic that there are only 6 teams better than a 4-12 team of last year? I think so. Alaskans don’t look terrible, but they didn’t look terrible at the start of last season either. Lets see if they can put things together.
6. Thunder Bay Hitmen – I’m on board with the hitmen this year. Bad cash situation, but that’ll be easily fixed by a few wins and a very nice stadium. Should post a few more wins than last year.
5. Regina Pounders – Didn’t exactly do much to improve in the offseason. Built 1 stadium section from what I can see. They’ll look better by comparison but the talent is still the same.
4. St. John's Fog Devils – Last year’s surprise won’t catch many people by storm this year. Still, higher levels plus good builds has the devils reaching for a home playoff game this year.
3. Quebec City Chiefs – Much like they looked at the beginning of last season, the Chiefs look to have a very rounded , put together team. They couldn’t win the big one, though. With Triple B’s out of the way, they’ve got less standing in their way.
2. Flappin' Heads – Can’t put the heads at number 1 after the 2 stink bombs they put up. They’ll have their chance to shine again this year, and Opie will no doubt put up monstrous numbers against gutted teams. But it’s the clutch situations that really count.
1. Eastside Eagles – Beaten by a much better B’s team in the playoffs, Eastside has nothing standing in their way this year. Sound gameplanning and superb builds will carry Eastside to the top of the East this year.
