i run my d forms out of formations and also use # of WR's for knowing when to change out of my base D. Only have about 5 plays per formation, and my D is top run defense in the league and 3rd best pass defense.

General Defensive Question:

I got beat down fairly good today.
But there was not a huge disparity between team levels.
Ive recently signed a bunch of guys, so Chem is at a minimum, but could Chem alone account for this:

Any pointers on how to better construct a D would be helpful.
Thanks in advance.

Does it seem like cb man to man coverage and cover 1 has changed this year?

I'm running a lot of the same defensive pass coverage I did last year.

Last year as the wR went out the CB would stay with them if they started going deep, and the FS would start to move over to help out. If the pass was thrown that way, and the CB got beat the FS was there to tackle.

Now my CB seems to sit there while the WR runs by him. The FS just sits there. And the WR catches an easy wide open pass and takes it 50+ yards to the house.

I have had a turnover in secondary, but I don't think these players are worse than the previous players.

If it's Munich youre talkin about, the problems could be chemistry related.

Could be, but I've seen teams with a lot less chemistry that us. 70% isn't great but it isn't 20% either.

This play for example:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=165234&pbp_id=1961185

Now I know the speed of their WR as well as his agility because his stats are visible.

Our CB while a bit slower should have been able to keep up with him. At least better than this.

It is an I formation, 3rd and 6.5 yards to go.
We are in a base 3-4 defense and the ROLB comes in on the blitz.

The WR1 just blows right by our CB1 like he is standing still.
The QB passes the ball as soon as he drops back, so it doesn't look like it could have been a pump fake.

Maybe the WR did something to freeze the cb, but he has no points in any SA's and his agility is avg at best.

The FS doesn't even take a step that way until the ball is caught almost 20 yards down field from where it is thrown.
And then he is off and the CB never even sees it until he is 10 yards down field and the FS can't do anything about it either. My CB's vision isn't that bad either.

I got a couple ideas on how to fix this, but was wondering if anyone else seemed to be having this problem. Or suggestions on how to stop this? Why do you think this happened the way it did?

And it wasn't just a fluke, this happened several times during the game.

That's a missed diving tackle or a the QB SA pump fake.

Pump Fake + Aggressive Coverage + Go for interceptions frequently even if I might get beat + low vision + low super vision = toast.

Yea, the more I look at it, I think it was a Pump fake. He wasn't supposed to be on go for interceptions, but the more I look at the game, I think he was.

His vision is good, and Super vision decent. But I think this guy had high pump fake, and I think our CB was on aggressive coverage.

Hope I got it fixed for todays game. Thanks for the help guys.

Do you guys know if in the defensive AI when you click on coverage distance if that means how long you stick with the guy your covering or if that is how far off the guy you play. meaning line up close to him or like 5-7 yards off him??

My team is really lacking with DB depth at the moment so I wanted to stay in the 4-3 defense against 3 WR sets. My question is:

Should I shift the LB's over to one side or leave them in the center?

Will a LB automatically go over and cover the slot receiver?

Thanks

Is there a formation guide somewhere?

For example, when I scout an opponent and see that they run a lot of one formation, etc, how do I find out what that formation is called?

Like this offensive formation: http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=193409&pbp_id=2436386

Fan, that is a strong I.

Park, yes a LB will go over to cover, but he will be hurting if the slot guy goes on a streak pattern. I had the same problem, till we got a couple extra corners signed recently.
You are hurting in the secondary. You could try doing like a cover 4 deep and play zone with the LB's underneath. Not sure if that helps. What you really need is another cb and another fs. Or have those guys you have pump their stamina to the soft cap or more.

I have been asking everywhere but have not gotten an answer yet. Can anyone tell me how the coverage distance work in the AI tactics? Is it how long you stay with your WR or is it how far off of him you lineup? Please PM me or post it here as I check here regularly
