I know I have seen this posted here before but I am unable to find it.

Just wondering what would you do to combat this team. I have a cover 0 up and running and has been doing great since I started using it. I guess all I really need to do is shut down the running game on the far outside.

The team we play tomorrow run out of a goal line formation (3 TEs) from all over the field. They have OTs and Centers at TE and blocking TEs at WR so that they can get to the perimeter.

They run from the trips formation - 3 WRs -(primarily to the left). Also, when they pass out of the Trips formation, almost 90% of the time they throw to their #3 slot WR, who's a level 17 (in a capped league so consider the talent level). That's how they kill teams, they run, run, run, then they throw to their slot guy out of the trips formation. Most of their passing is long, never short, sometimes medium.

Has anyone had success stopping this type of formation? Right now they are 8-0 and for the most part they have blown everyone out.

I would suggest you run cover 4 the entire game

Blitz your nickelback. If I recall correctly, he'll line up off the WR and get a free shot into the backfield. As long as he doesn't run into the pulling guard ... who is slow as hell ... and as long as he can bring the back down or at least slow him up, you should be OK.

Alternatively, you can play much the same game. Put a LB in as CB #1.

A third option would be Cover 1, Man under, weakside shift without using a nickel package. This puts the LOLB on the slot receiver (make sure he can cover!) and he hopefully won't get pushed around by a WR. You still have 7 guys in the box because the SS comes down to cover the TE, basically replacing the LOLB. The FS stays deep in case things go south.

The formation is Singleback with 3 WR, and your Defense AI can recognize it.

As for Goal Line at mid field, 4-3, Man Under, Cover 1. This puts 8 men in the box and still keeps one safety in the middle of the field in case the front 8 can't stop them.

A cover 2 with a SS blitz can be a bit more effective than just a straight cover 1 against a run up the middle, as the SS will be running full speed, and hit the back just as he gets past his line.

While I see you got shellacked, they didn't follow the gameplan you predicted. I see blitzing the nickel did work for you one of the 2 times they pitched left - the CB couldn't bring him down, but he did slow him up for the FS to get him for 2.5 yards on 3rd and 5.

The other time the CB ran into the pulling guard.

He didn't run the cover 4 either

Sounds like the dude saw this thread and reversed his approach vs you guys.. Thats why you always have an alias or friend post something like this for you.

Who does the FS cover when SS blitzes?

#1 WR?

The FS has a Deep Zone coverage so he doesnt cover anyone unless they go deep

Hardly a surprise seeing as "the dude" posted in the thread. Twice.

I thought the cover 4 comment would have given it away but I enjoyed the conversation. They have a good team and will be in the playoffs.
