Right now I have only a 4-3 D but I wanted to add a few plays running a 3-4 in certain situations.

Should I fill the LB depth chart for the LILB/RILB or leave it as is?

Yes you have to fill those spots if you plan to run any 3-4 in your gameplan. Although if you didn't fill them I imagine the cpu would just select players to take those spots.

Let see if I have this right. I can add the starting MLB to either LILB/RILB since he won't be in the game at MLB and add a backup LB at the other spot.

That's right.

Your issue will be that DE for the 3-4 need to be powerful, runstoppers. If you're using the typical speedy DE that a 4-3 uses, the line will be overwhelmed when you switch to the 3-4. Same could be true for your NT.

Thanks for the tip, I would think our DE's are more balanced than anything. Should be ok for what I want to do because it will only be for a few situations. Will still be mainly a 4-3 D for now.

The biggest problem I've run into with trying to run both is playing time along the DL, especially when you are stacked two deep along the DL for a 4-3. Switching to a 3-4 really kills ya and it's near impossible to come up with a good DC that works for both the 3-4 and the 4-3 and keeps everyone happy.

I can't see how you could do it running both schemes. You almost have to commit to one or the other predominately and then throw in the other for a few select situations. And then tweak your personnel accordingly.

Yeah that's what I am playing with at the moment, I didn't mess with the 3-4 like I should of in scrimmages but really I only have 2 situations with the 3-4 to play around with so far.

Same here, I missed the preseason. I'm doing some now with a early level league.
