I'm not looking for "sign better corners" either. If the WR's outmatch the CB's what's the best way to hang with them?

Get lots of sacks?

I don't know if there really is a 'best way'. Maybe go with an extra CB always (so if it's a 2 WR set, use the nickel)?

First of all, GP a clock control offense to limit their time of position... That protects your defense. The nickel is not a bad idea, and if you can't hang one on one, zone defense with a pressure defense to rush the qb

There is no magic bullet but it might help some to have CBs set player's tactics to pass focus. I don't think they could play close coverage because of being over levelled--they might get beat deep--so I would ask them to play medium coverage and loose style.

You could play nickle and dime with a zone. Obviously, CBs who are vastly overleveled are not going to man up real well.

^^ Agreed.

Set the CB tactics to Pass/Medium/Medium. And play a cover2 Zone defense.

With the new AI you can dial up more pressure on passing downs which can help tremendously, but if your corners are really out matched then I think playing a bend don't break defense will be your best bet.

You will give up alot of yards but if you keep every thing in front of you with medium distance, then pair that with zone coverage, once your inside the 20 you don't have to worry about getting beat deep and you can start applying more pressure as the get closer to the endzone.

Like I said you may give up tons of yards but once inside the 15 you can call for cover 1 and 3 and play a 4-4 type defense (SS being that 4th man in the box)and again with the field being shorter you don't have to worry about getting beat deep.

In my opinion.

i somewhat make up for it with my safties forcing fumbles

Cover 2 Zone -> not working well, 1. it leaves too many gaps, 2. higher level WR can freeze lower level CB with stiff arm

So, if you think you play "bend but not break", you have to hope sim is in favor of you. Otherwise, you will give up a couple of long plays (enough to lose a game).

You can give up a lot of yardage if you get turnovers. Strength and tackling to force fumbles. Vision and catching for INTs.

It's not exactly a safe NFL-style, take-no-risks gameplan, but if your offense can sustain drives you can win with it. Of course, if your O can't sustain drives and your D can't stop them ... you aren't in any position to win that game.

You're right, I've found a cover 1 zone works a little bit better with the SS having a zone in the area of the LB's. It tends to cover the TE a little better and help against the deep ball

If you play your zone deep enough and can make the tackles you can get by with it. but once they get within striking distance your run defense better be up to par or you'll give up the TD.

Agreed - the Cover 2 is near useless...it puts the safeties way too far back from the LoS, and doesn't help an iota with long passes.
