Is anyone willing to post some sample Inputs and Outputs associated with the inputs. I am having a little trouble getting started and just wondering if some examples can help me get a play book started.

Did you read these two guides?

I feel your pain, though. I didn't have much trouble with a preliminary offense, but the defense was just a bit more complex, and I kept putting it off. Finally I talked another GM into helping, heh.

There are different schools of thought on this, but I think to start it might be easiest to just go by the number of WRs and not formations (except goal line). So if the offense has 3 WRs you might want to run a defense that has 3 CBs.

The first time I set up my playbook I made an input for each offensive set. Then I made outputs to cover short and long yardages situations, as well as at least one blitz output per input. Then I made inputs for special situations such as goalline, extra long yardage, WR sets for trips and above, and red zone defense.

One thing that's helped out a lot is that I used a set terminology to describe my plays. Here's one of the plays I have to counter a basic Pro Set offense:

Base 2Z2 Air Set Blast Will option Dog
Base = my base D the 3-4, 2Z2 = Cover2 Zone Medium distance, Air = favor Pass, Set = No LB shift, Blast Will option Dog = Blitz the ROLB 100% with the SS blitzing at a lower percentage.

So for the above play I'm running the 3-4 Cover2 Zone underneath with Medium spacing on the coverage, favoring the pass with the LBs in their normal spot, and Blitzing the ROLB with the SS going only some of the time. Once you get used to the terms you can tell at a glance what you have your defense set to without opening the output options. That comes in very handy if once your playbook gets out to 20+ plays.

Right now I'm contemplating rearranging my playbook to be set up on a per down basis. First down would have inputs for each offensive set and then multiple outputs, second down would have it's own set of inputs, etc. Which brings me to another piece of advice. Backup your playbook! I've saved my playbook twice once under the regular name and once as name.bak. That's save me more than a couple of times.

@ NAVYBUC....

You're a stud dude, but I like it enough to go do it to my own playbook.

Thanks for the insightful post.
