See my other post about the ball spot and special circumstances settings for background.

On my punt and FG inputs I removed the ball spot setting, just letting the special circumstance determine when to punt or kick. FG distance is set to auto.

So I'm running the tester, and it says that on the opponents 31 yard line we'll punt, but on the 30 we'll kick a FG.

Is that how it is for everyone, or does it change depending on your kicker?

Its the 24 yard line for my kicker when I do as you suggest, so my guess is that it takes the range of the kicker into account

Huh, interesting. You're talking about your team with the level 11 K, right? Mine is a level 22.

If the tester is accurate on this, I might have to change something, heh. Punting from the 31 kind of sucks.

Yep, the level 11 kicker. I also tried it for the team with the 19 kicker too, it kicked from the 28 inward.

Yeah, I wouldn't do auto normally, I've got the range for my level 11 kicker set at 45 yards, and I'll kick it from 50 if we're down in the final minutes, using the whole within 5 yards thing. Also have a few other settings based on the 45 yard range such as going for it when I'm 5-10 yards away from FG range, and so on.

The advanced settings certainly seem like the way to go for the kicking game taking this into account -- I would think that a level 22 would be able to make a 47+ yard kick from time to time, enough to warrant going for it at any rate.

Guess the tester might be underestimating the kickers range, sometimes.

Probably not taking SAs into the equation, if the tester is showing a 30YD range, its probably right based off of pure stats, but if that kicker gets a big boot it will go further.
