Is the more for blitzing up the middle instead of say a blitzing a corner off the outside? I built a blitzing corner with Head of Steam 10/Disguise Blitz 10 but he still gets hung up on the outside a decent amount. I was hoping he would be able to get around the OT better with Head of Steam. Any info would help for future builds.

IMO, it's one of those things that could have been literally game breaking. Sacks 99% of the time would have sucked.

So at the time it was implemented, Bort tuned it to whatever effect he was looking for.

Now, over the years, builders have basically learned how to build to neutralize it, and you can kind of tell because it still works great against builds that aren't optimized to compete against it.

TJ captured it really well.

I have never run testing on it, but I do believe that it helps. But it helps in a very small way. Say for example that a blitzer *without* head of steam has like a 2% chance to just burn around the corner and go entirely unblocked. That seems realistic, right? It certainly doesn't happen all of the time, nor should it.

Now, say a full 10 in head of steam TRIPLES that chance! It's...still only 6 percent. So roughly 1 in 16 times will your guy get through untouched...by the first blocker . And veyr possibly the ball will be gone by then anyway. So it's not a guaranteed sack, just a much more likely sack.

So is it worth it? Um, maybe? There's lots of good blitzing SAs out there. You certainly can't *count* on it. I've encountered guys wanting to build a blitzer with no break block %, with the idea that "I'm just going to build a guy who never even gets blocked!" Which is of course ridiculous...as TJ said, if such a thing existed, it would be game breaking.

I pesonally believe that it can be a good component of a heavy blitzing build. Get your double break block equipment, some first step, and then take your pick of disguize blitz, tunnel vision, blitz, head of steam...there's even another one that i'm forgetting. Every little thing you add in there is only increasing your effectiveness by a little, but you end up combining great speed, solid core secondaries, good AEQ, good SAs, and good VAs, and eventually all of those little bonuses will add up to a player that can tally 10-20 sacks a season against top-rated competition. Which, looking at the NFL, feels about right!
