don't suck on offense and you won't need a punter

Personally I prefer to have my QB just throw the punts. I agree the punter position is obsolete!

What I do is go long distance then move it to hang time as I hit str caps. But you do need to keep an eye out on the punter early plays. You don’t want to over shoot your punting team.

I actually, go with 0 to start. Why?
If you set for max hangtime, you take a chance of a super short punt, caught at a dead run by the returner as he flies past your defenders going the other way. Instant TD.
However... if you set for max distance (this is what I use to do) then you might get off a decent punt with short hangtime and your defense generally will be able to react just fine... but with ANY setting, at this level, you always chance a 'shank' that hardly travels 15 yards and you're right back to the 'max hangtime' problem.

I found, in the few seasons leading up to the crash, that leaving at 0 tends to give you the best change for 'average' punts (not super short) so it cuts down on those dang shorties that burn your defense every time.
Also, FYI, at these lower levels, any agility you can put on the field really helps... even more than speed. Most returners have a buttload of speed but agility is a work in progress. If you can cut them off... get them to make a 'move'... they slow way down and are easier to surround and tackle.
