we've been having a debate.

in one corner, a full-grown adult male moose in peak form. meaning: full rack of antlers and all the rest. in the other corner, a full-grown adult male bison, also in peak form. except there aren't any corners and this is like wide open grassland or some other neutral terrain.

who wins?

The bison would be much stronger and far more agile so if this scenario were to ever play out, my money would be on the bison. That being said, the moose definitely has the reach advantage and would only have to land one lucky and awkward looking hoof to completely change the dynamic of the fight. Otherwise, the bison would continue to use his power and agility to work his way around the moose landing powerful body shot after body shot, even upending the moose and once the fight is on the ground, give me the bison all day long.

I may be a bit biased but I've personally seen people handle bison in an agricultural setting and they are badasses capable of bending heavy metal gates and posts and equipment when motivated.

Did you know full grown moose can derail a train and have done so? My money is on the moose.

The Major advantage of the moose would be it's antlers, despite how they can seem rather benign they are extremely dangerous and often times when moose are sizing eachother up they can accidentally kill the other male when an antler gets jammed through an eye socket.

Bison are on average heavier, have a lower center of gravity, but they are a bit over-matched in the hardware department in this fight. It would come down to whether the moose could land a lucky fatal blow early in the fight, but I'd say in most cases the Bison would win.

I think you're looking at the scenario in the wrong way, if a moose isn't smart enough or quick enough to get out of the way of a train, he'll have little chance to stay in a defensive position against a bison.

As I mentioned, if the moose can land an early shot and Raid mentioned those antlers, the moose can win the fight but the bison is far more relentless and powerful and agile. Hard to imagine the moose being able to maintain his balance with that kind of sustained pressure. The bison would be well adapted to dropping to its knees and getting at the hind legs of the moose and while the bison can get back on his feet in a blink of an eye, the moose can not if knocked off balance. The bison has the ability to temporarily retreat and come back whereas if the moose wanted to retreat and regroup, the bison would likely be able to chase and get its head under the mooses ass and flip it off his feet and again, that is where the fight is pretty much over.
