Farm cat has a couple of kittens in October, under most circumstances the kittens wouldn't survive the weather but she brings them up to the house and my youngest daughter sets up a box with straw, plugs in a heat lamp so they would survive the cold nights.
My wife found a home for them where my youngest kids can visit but they still need a week or two. Kittens get a touch of distemper and my daughter was concerned, told her I would get them the shots. Two shots=$39, just a simple vaccination shot. When the clerk asked for $39, I told her that if they weren't important to my daughter, a 12 gauge shell is less than 50 cents and I know that will solve the distemper issue. They really have pet owners and apparently people with children by the balls. Newborn calves get two vaccines and the total of both of those shots is less than $6 and a calf is actually worth something.
