LATE & LAZY

Running real late this week as I was out of town mucking about. Real short this week. No game of the week as the closest score was 38 points.

Tourney - 29 entered with no one getting eliminated.

Weekly Picks 6-0 this past week for an overall 32-4 record (88.9%).

Not Fast, Just Furious @ Manhattan Midnight Warriors - Warriors only averaging 1.5 ppg in their last two and they'll need a lot more this week - they won't get it...50-3.

Scott's Turfbuilders @ Charlestown Chiefs - Chiefs in a stat stuffer...200-0

Chile Chupacabras @ Sofia Spiders - Two third place teams go at it and if it's like last season the Spiders D will rule the day. Look for Sofia to shut the run down...38-6.

LG Canucks @ Magua's Revenge - LG is looking for that second win in their hunt for seed number four and the Revenge won't provide any breathing room...45-7.

Tlingit Warriors @ Grand Rapids River Rats - GRRR has won two straight and if they want to contend for a playoff spot I'm call this as a must win. This will be tight but the Warriors will fall short...31-28.

Running Gag @ Vancouver Gorillas - The Gag have two shutouts in a row going and I'm calling for the hat trick...50-0.

Power 5 - no change from last week (yeah, this is the real lazy way to do things).

Keep on fighting, trying new tactics or yada yada yada - nearly halfway through.

Alright, I admit, horible review last week (well, technically, less than a day a go) but I'll try to step it up this week. One more week and we're at the half way point of the season and we've seen a few surprises but for the most part it's business as usual. I'll have a studly mid-season review to try to keep your interest as we head down the home stretch. Maybe it's me getting up there in years but these seasons seem to go by entirely to fast.

SURVIVOR
Messed up last week as it was thirty for thirty - same this week as we had no eliminations. Still irked about being eliminated.

GAME OF THE WEEK
One whale of a comeback from the Tlingit Warriors over the Grand Rapids River Rats. The Warriors won a thrilling game 37-36 after trailing by 23 entering the third quarter. WOW, certinaly will be remembered as comeback game of the year as I don't expect that to be topped. The Warriors proved that there are three aspects of football - O, D and special teams. The Warriors were out gained 552.5 to 264.5 but had both a KR and PR in the second half to aid the comeback. Three huge 4th quarter passes by QB Hatchet Bot Prototype got the W - with the last TD comming with just 54 seconds on the clock. What a heck of a comeback for the Warriors who keep proving me wrong at every turn. GRRR owner ShowTyme was asked after the game his thoughts on the loss "imagine getting hitting in the balls with a sledghammar - magnify that 10 times and that's what I feel like."

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Returner Christian McCaffrey KR.PR, Tlingit Warriors. Don't recall ever giving to a special team but McCaffrey was the spark that lit the fire under the Warriors. The dots 97 yard TD return in the third was the start of the Warrior comeback which saw them go on a 35-6 run to close out the game. Oh, the 97 yarder was it for this dot - McCaffrey also scored on a 85 yard punt return for the first points of the fourth quarter. Without either of these scores it was only going to be a nice comeback loss. Christian was a heroic dot in this victory as he had five KR for 205 yards (41 average) and a TD and nine PR for 224.5 yards (24.9 average) and a TD. Great game by this returning in a thriller.

WEEKLY PICKS
Weekly: 5-1
Overall: 37-5 (88%)

Grand Rapids River Rats @ Chile Chupacabras - I usually don't pick with my heart but coming up with GRRR I'm pulling for my class to do well - oh, and that crushing loss last week you have to pull for the guy. The River Rats will need to slow the run game and get the O fired up but I got them fieldgoalishish in a win...18-17.

Manhattan Midnight Warriors @ Tlingit Warriors - When two warriors battle one will fall. Both teams have struggled to an extent but Tlingit has showed some grit and the showdown here I have them winning a low scoring defensive battle...13-10.

Magua's Revenge @ Not Fast, Just Furious - This one could be pegged as game of the week as well but we yield to Gag/Sofia game. The first of two meetings may very well lay the predicate (I can use big words on occassion) of how things shake up between the top three seed in the east. I have to roll with my boys here but I expect a shootout...38-35.

Charlestown Chiefs @ LG Canucks - The Chiefs keep rolling along and the next obstacle in their path is the Canucks - toot toot toot - get out of the way...38-3.

Vancouver Gorilla @ Scott's Turfbuilders - The Gorilla's may not have been living up to expectations on the season but this one will give them some much needed confidence heading into the second half of the season...100-0.

Game of the Week: Sofia Spiders @ Running Gag
These two teams have some very good recent history. How good mk? Well, in S73 they met once in the regular season with Gag taking the 14-13 win in week six. In season 71 Gag spanked the Spiders in the regular season with a 41-20 win in week 11. Still in 71 the two met up in the title game and Sofia came away with the win 21-20 ending the Gags 123 game winning steak (where is this in the GLB history of win streaks - has to be up there (BUT OUCH regardless). I'd want a little payback myself but I'm petty.

Odds: Gag -450

GAG Keys To Victory:
1. The ground game has to wear out the Spider D and keep that O off the field.
2. Must hit a few big plays in the passing game to keep the D honest.
3. Need to create some turnovers for some favorable field position.

Sofia Keys To Victory:
1. Air raid - need to hit a few homeruns to get into scoring position as every point matters.
2. The D has done well at slowing the Gag ground attack and will need to rise up to the challenge once again.
3. Start fast and make the Gag O play catch up (then add a little mustard - I'll be here all night folks - yep, I'm hysterically funny).

I've got the Spiders and the underdog in this one. Sofia will win another close hard fought game as I believe the passing game will keep the Gag D on their toes. I got a late FG giving the Spiders a 17-14 win (you all know now this will be like 77-73 just because I said it would be a defensive game).

POWER FIVE
1. Charlestown Chiefs - Put up 192 and gave up zero in their layup game.
2. Not Fast, Just Furious - Chinks in the armor as they gave up a season high 16 points against 3M.
3. Magua's Revenge - Played solid against an up and coming LG team.
4. Running Gag - Steady throughout against the Gorillas in thier 31 point W.
5. Sofia Spiders - Won a hard fought game against Chile 26-6.

Mid-Season review coming next week!!! Also, if you notice the most pages the past few seasons has been five - we're nearly there already as we near the halfway point of the season. I will note CTown and Sofia are doing a lot of smack talk behind the scenes in various (very disturbing) PM's to me. sunder, please stop asking me what I'm wearing...kind of creepy after the 10th time.

It couldn't get here fast enough for some and others are just chugging along. YES, we are at the mid-point of the season and we'll call this the mid-season review. We'll take a look at week nine as well as looking back at the first half of the season. It's been somewhat of a roller coaster of a season and with some teams moving conferences and changing with another league my early season predictions are somewhat scattered about.

SURVIVOR
29 entered this week with three being eliminated. The three gone all chose my team so "my bad."

GAME OF THE WEEK Half the game were not complete routes so there's that.
Magua's Revenge over Not Fast, Just Furious by the score of 26-17. The Revenge really won this game by being able to pound the ball and control the clock. My O just crapped the bed in the second half as Magua's D gave the O plenty of opportunities and they were able to capitalize by outscoring NF 17-3 in the second half after trailing 14-9 at intermission. Magua rushed for 282.5 yards on the game and controlled the clock by possessing the ball for 38:21. To boot, they won the turnover battle albeit slight at 1-0 - it was my teams first possession of the second half and led to a FG for them so a huge play within the context of the game. Revenge can expect many negative things for two weeks.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
RB Dawson Dickens, Magua's Revenge. Dickens was a dickens in the game for my D as he pulverized us for 18 carries for 121 yards with a rushing TD. I say pulverize because the dot broke 17 tackles on the game...my dots better hit the weight room.

WEEKLY PICKS Rough one this past week ladies and gents.
Weekly: 3-3
Overall: 40-8 (83.3%)

Running Gag @ Magua's Revenge - Could have been GOW as last season these two heavyweight went at it splitting the regular season games but unfortunately did not meet up in the playoffs. Both games were decided by seven points so if you expect a route swipe left. This will be a war decided by who wins the TO battle and I expect the Revenge to come out on top...24-21.

Chile Chupacabras @ Vancouver Gorillas - With the playoffs creeping up I think the Chupacabras see the light at the end of the tunnel and will push forward and get this win...31-16.

Scott's Turfbuilders @ Manhattan Midnight Warriors - Warriors needing a win here and they should walk away with an easy one...100-0.

Not Fast, Just Furious @ Charlestown Chiefs - This one could be a show stopper and I have the feeling the fourth quarter will determine the outcome of this. I have a strange feeling something whacky will happen (missed FG or K/P return TD, defensive TD) that will swing the pendulum - my luck running out is about to continue...31-30.

Tlingit Warriors @ Sofia Spiders - Spider's continue to keep their heads down but as we come down the home stretch they'll be heard loud and clear. Look for Sofia to start the second half with a big win...48-6.

GOW: LG Canucks @ Grand Rapids River Rats

Maybe not on paper be the most stylish match up but this one has always been interesting for me as we all came up together and basically it was the three of us battling it out for the title and the cup. To date, these teams have played a total of 15 times (including playoffs/regular season - tough to tell tourney games so I left alone) with the Canucks holding a nine to six advantage in wins. The River Rats took the last game played last season with a 33-17 win in the first round of the playoffs. It was a tale of two halves as the River Rats jumped out to a 30-0 half time lead while the Canucks tried to comeback out scroing Grand Rapids 17-3 in the second half. Who knows what will happen as they meet up for the first time in CP. Now, this season and this game has some early playoff implications for both team - RIDE OR DIE BABY! Well, not the end for whoever loses the game but I have to pump it up a bit to keep you exited.

Line: River Rats -125

I give the early nod to Grand Rapids as they are the home team and that will allow them to run a promotion.

GR WILL WIN IF
1. Keep the picks to a minimum as they face one of the league's best interception CB's in Magic !!.
2. Jump out early and force LG to play catch up - worked last game so run with it.
3. Don't give up the big play and make LG work for their points.

LG WILL WIN IF
1. They force QB Michael Workman out of his comfort zone and force turnovers.
2. Their own QB Shook must have a good game here.
3. When LG has played well in the series they've mixed in a little ground game - they need some rushing yards.

A double edge sword for me here as both of these coaches have been class acts. I like the home team just due to the promotion - to me, that will be the difference in a tight contested game.

River Rats - 24
Canucks - 23

POWER FIVE
1. Charlestown Chiefs - Only unbeaten team at the moment blanking LG last week and looking sharp in the process.
2. Magua's Revenge - Earned a hard fought W with a strong second half over NFJF.
3. Running Gag - Had a real nice win over Sofia to move up this week.
4. Not Fast, Just Furious - Took the first loss on the season by MR as the O let the squad down.
5. Sofia Spiders - Played well against Gag but couldn't get the O in high gear.

MID SEASON ALL CONFERENCE
Players chosen by the "Current Season Offense/Defense/K/P/Sp Teams." If a dot was close to the dot in the final spot I went ahead and added. The number is the GLB positional ranking for each respective dots current ranking. Yes, I waited for rollover to be complete at 3:00 AM my time (such devotion - now, maybe I should put a lot more time in the offensive game planning - did I just diss mysefl...yes indeed I did). Funny story, I did this after the last game to hopefully ease the time load but the D changed so much after one game - O stayed close. It did save time at the end of the day...hilarious, right?

ROOKIE TEAMS
Been a hit or miss on the new teams so far on the season and we'll get to prove our worth as we strive to make a playoff appearance.

1. Not Fast, Just Furious - Sitting at 7-1 and should make the playoffs.
2. Grand Rapids River Rats - Struggling at times at 2-6 but still in a playoff spot hunt.
3. LG Canucks - Had the W in week three and have tasted another one.
4. Manhattan Midnight Warriors - Blue Max is usually active but this season 3M struggling at 1-7.
5. Vancouver Gorillas (swapped with Chocolate Blaze) - 2-6 and technically a rookie team I put them at the bottom as they're really not.

THE NEVER TO EARLY PLAYOFF OUTLOOK
It's pretty simple, the top four teams in each conference make the playoffs and the other four teams head back down to the Regional Pro Leagues (however, don't be discouraged as there has not been a lot of teams coming up and you can always request to stay if your up to it).

Western Conference Three and four won't be locked up for some weeks and the battle for 1-2 will go down to the wire.

1. Not Fast, Just Furious - a much tougher second half of the season await my little posse. We'll play three in the top five and start with back to back against east heavyweights Chiefs and Spiders. Then to boot, Gag will get a shot at redemption in the final game. Chuck in a couple rivalry games with Grand Rapids and LG and we better buckle up for a rough ride. Playoff spot is high.
2. Running Gag - Have three tough games to close out the season in Revenge, Chiefs, and Just Furious. Gag is still gunning for the top seed and it may boil down to that final game against my squad. Playoff spot is high.
3. Chile Chupacabras - Beating folks they should beat but don't have that "signature win" yet. Chief, Just Furious and Gag stick out like a sore thumb on their closing schedule but they will have wars with the Gorillas, Warriors and Canucks to secure a playoff bid. Playoff spot is likely.
4. Tlingit Warriors - This team has surprised me so far but have a brutal second half that includes the Spiders, Revenge, Gag and Just Furious. They'll need to hold off LG and that very well could come down to the wire but they're looking solid for the #3 or 4 seed right now. Playoff spot is likely.
5. LG Canucks - Down several games from the #4 seed but a favorable schedule with only Just Furious and Gag as power five teams awaits. It doesn't mean I'm handing them wins just showing the schedule is much easier having already played the Eastern's best. An uphill battle that is doable but they'll need some wins over teams ahead of them. Playoff spot is an uphill battle.
6. Scott's Turfbuilders - Have struggled on the season and will miss the playoffs.

Eastern Conference The battle for the #4 seed will be interesting as we close and the 1-3 seeds will be changing like diapers on a baby.
1. Charlestown Chiefs - Whew, tough tough tough...Just Furious, Gag, Spiders and Revenge. Half the games will be murderers row and what CP is all about. Playoff spot is high.
2. Magua's Revenge - Like the other top three the conference games have true meaning for seeding. In and only seed remains. Playoff spot is high.
3. Sofia Spiders - Will have some conference wars and has Just Furious from the West. Locked in and only seeding question remains. Playoff spot is high.
4. Vancouver Gorillas - Not out of the hunt if they can get things reigned in. They'll need to get their wins in before week 14 as they close with the top three in the conference. Playoff spot will be a battle the rest of the season.
5. Grand Rapids River Rats - That one point loss could be a killer for this team and only time will tell. Still have to play Gag and Just Furious from the West so it's no spring picnic for the Rats. Playoff spot will be a battle the rest of the season.
6. Manhattan Midnight Warriors - Blue Max has been MIA for nearly 10 days and without the Captain at the wheel this team maybe doomed. Still not down and out - they can win and get the fourth seed. Playoff spot will be a battle the rest of the season..

INTERVIEW: Picking the brain of Spiders' owner .spider.

MK: Thanks for joining us at the halfway point.
.spider.: My pleasuer MK.

MK: Half way through, where the Spiders heading?
.spider.:I'm in sunder's camp, what you wearing?
MK: Jorts, pink half shirt, flip flops with socks and a Pabst visor.
.spider.:Nice, I can tell you're a fashionado.
MK: That sounds like fighting words!!!

MK: Tit for tat, now answer my question.
.spider.: At the end of the day the Spiders are about having some fun and winning.
MK: Sounds like you are guaranteeing a title?
.spider.:When you have to deal with putzes like sunder B and madrocker on my side is it really a stretch to guarantee a title?!

MK: The Chiefs did light you up in the conference title game by 34 points last season.
.spider.:Someone hacked my account.

MK: Any suspects?
.spider.:I'm not dropping any names but they may have a gag relex when running. Someone didn't want to see us in the title game again is all I'll say on that.

MK: You've had a nice run the past few seasons getting to the conference title in S70, winning the title in S71 over Gag, losing the title in S72 and dropping the conference title last season.
.spider.: <yawn> As expected, money ho's and clothes has been my motto throughout life.

MK: Who'd you like to play if you were to make it to the title game this season?
.spider.: IF <laughter>?!!!! I'd like to smack around Disaster AGAIN. Nothing like breaking up winning streaks and crushing a team in the title game.
MK: You did only win by one point.
.spider.: Check your stats homie - think it was 50 or 60 if I recall correctly.

MK: What motivates you to keep playing dotball?
.spider.: My pet gerbil died many seasons ago and don't listen to those who say it died "under suspicious conditions." Yes, there was a hospital visit on my part but as I say leave well enough alone. After that, game on in GLB!!!
MK: What about the kids or God?
.spider.:Goes without saying - amen.

MK: Good luck to you on the second half and look forward to our game.
.spider.:Get a pad for that butt of yours because it's going to get spanked.
MK: We all love how classy you are.
.spider.: 100 percent.

MK: Seems like you're starting to recruit early this season - got a posting up breaking GLB rules. Many around the league are talking about you should ban yourself for a week or so to teach yourself a lesson and set the example.
.spider.: Are these the same "many" that don't win titles - speak to me when you've got some rings.

There you have it, the first half of the season at a glance. Good luck in the second half.
