Yeah, I also don't remember which season, but it was right after the implementation of knocked-loose. It wasn't pure deflections that were a problem, but the KLs would result in interceptions an amazing amount of the time, so that got nerfed to make it nearly (though not entirely) impossible. Which is fine, interceptions don't need to be stronger.

They exist but are rare. the first time I ran a zone defense team I did all deflecting DL to see if the mid-level zone guys could get a bunch of interceptions off of passes swatted at the line. there were like 2-3 the whole season, which I decided was clearly not worth it, but it was really clear that it's what happened. But it was like 30 seasons ago and i'm WAAAAY too lazy to go dig up any examples.
this brings up something that I noticed the other day. can a deflected pass be intercepted? http://glb.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=2951445&pbp_id=920701 sure looks like the FS intercepted this. normally, you can see part of the player under the ball, unless the player has control of the ball. also, notice that the ball was horizontal then changes to vertical. i just cant recall any interceptions off of deflected passes, and figure that it's coded that if the receiver doesnt catch the deflected pass, which i have seen, then the code says the play is over and doesnt even look for other players in the area.
Based on the graphics here it looks like the SS tipped this one before the INT. Just saw this one the other day and remembered your post.

Is this the same as the QB getting hurried and forced into a bad pass and interception?
I have seen plenty of instances when a pass was tipped by the dot that eventually intercepted it (CB's usually)... and a few that got tipped at the line and then later intercepted by a different dot (than the one tipping it)... but mostly I've seen the former... CB tips then Int's. Never saved any of the replays though. Mostly saw them when self scouting or scouting an opponent's game.

Nah, I'm thinking about when you can easily see the ball change speed and trajectory as it passes over a DL, and then it gets picked (in which case you only get the text about the interception, not the swat). Certainly your situation happens too (obviously), and they could of course happen at the same time.
