Also, I have a free player available? Are these just like a player bought with flex points?

The game has changed a LOT since Season 5, but one thing that hasn't changed is that the off-season is the best time to build new dots, and we're mid-season at the moment. But you can always use your free player slot to make a dot and use the rest of the season to re-acquaint yourself with building and training, and then retire him at the end of the season. Once you retire him, your free player slot will be open and available again for another new, free dot.

Speaking of, your home page will only show 1 free player slot, but you probably have 2 or 3... the home page only shows 1 at a time. And if you make ANY Flex purchase -- even just 100 Flex -- you'll become a Premium member and get another free player slot. Just keep using the free player slot to make new players until the free player slot disappears, and that's how many free players you can have at any one time.

Someone better at building than I am will need to show you the ropes on dot-building. Keep an eye out on the Teams Looking For Players forum, find someone who needs dots for a Rookie team for next season, and see if they can help you with a build plan. The FAQ forum is your friend as well.

As for GLB2, people play it, but I think there are more people here on GLB1. I never really liked GLB2 myself.

Fun isn't really the right word. It's probably less "fun" than glb2.

Player building in GLB1 is like a Sudoku, compared to GLB2 being a connect the dots picture. Or Axis and Allies vs Risk.

===

It's a completely different game since season 5. First of all, in season 5 we didn't really know what was possible with dots. It takes 8 seasons to grow a dot.

On top of that, leagues have been restructured multiple times.

The entire player building process has changed, from training, to level caps, to the age based system, to equipment changes and probably more that I can't think of off the top of my head.

The biggest change is that everyone that has stuck around this long basically had the game figured out. New players tend to get ground down to dust and blow away.

It takes a special kind of mental illness to "play" this game.

You have been warned.

Classic is much more active than GLB2. I think I've had one dot that ended it's career on the team it started with over there as owners just seem to become inactive much more often. Here, you generally you connect with a team and you're there until the end of time (or GLB... whichever comes first).

GLB2 sucks and player building there is very boring.

If you want a GLB1 build guide for your own use just shoot me a PM.

Don't let these old cranks fool you. Still plenty of fun to be had playing this game. If GLB1 wasn't fun, these cranks wouldn't still be here to post the stuff that's scaring you!

Building dots in GLB1 is complicated, but there are plenty of people who will help you out if you're willing to listen to their advice and educate yourself a bit. The new players who "get ground down to dust and blow away" are the ones who don't listen and who don't know what they don't know. That likely doesn't apply to you, since you've played this game before and have a taste of how it works, so you're in a good position to learn how to build properly.

Now that's a dot.

(It's actually short hand for player, players are represented by dots on replays)

this!

and I don't play glb2 but I check in on the forums from time to time, and my impression is that classic is a little more active, and is pretty stable population-wise (people leave every year, but we have people coming back all the time). GLB2 seems to still be shrinking every year. but it's important to note that it does take a long time to get a player to plateau in GLB1, so it takes a little more focus/attention over a longer period of time.
